UK: Vinyl revival switches to CDs and DVDs thanks to Gen Z's 1990s obsession

If true, I feel bad for them as a generation. They don't seem to have anything culturally important to call their own.

No decent music, movies or tv. Social media fucked it all up for them

CD should always be capable of being better but the mastering is often so bad that vinyl often ends up having far better dynamic range. This is especially true of modern CD releases and frequently garbage 'remasters'. Often CDs released in the 80s, if you can source them (or cough a rip of them) will sound just as good as the vinyl.
...
Plain old CD should've been the end game for audio, much like how 4K is for movies (imo), if the publishers weren't keen on fucking it up so much.

Of course 4K Blu-Ray are also subject to publishers fucking up. There's fake 4K releases which actually are upscaled 2k digital intermediates....

And then there's the issue of analog film transfers that look completely unnatural because of overdone HDR because customers don't want just an increased dynamic range, they want to see the colors to "POP! Because proper HDR is when you have to squint your eyes whenever there's a bright object on the screen! Never mind that in the previous 100 years of cinema that was never the case. But insane brightness now has become a hallmark of real HDR.

Case in point: Beetlejuice on 4K Blu-Ray. People loved it because the colors POPPED. No one seems to mind that this was never how the movie was presented in theaters when it was released back in '88. IMO the original Blu-Ray looked better than the 4K release.

There are a lot of lies or misunderstandings around. People who say that vinyl records don't need more care and maintenance and can never degrade on playing are lying.
Personally I wasn't talking about sound quality

Durability and sound degradation are two different things to me. Durability to me is how long the item will last until it is physically unplayable.

A cd will always become unusable quicker than a record and you're talking shit if you say otherwise. I have extensively used both in ways they were never ment to be used and know this for a fact

Obviously on the subject of sound degradation the cd wins easily since it dosnt degrade

So, 3D bluray still has a comeback chance?

Only if the start making 3D TVs again ... My LG 4K OLED tv from 2016 had absolutely perfect 3D: perfect blacks, bright colors, 1080p resolution, passive glasses ... movies looked better on that TV than in the cinema. These TVs didn't have any of the downsides of previous 3D TVs (like muted colors, low resolution, active glassed that needed to be recharged constantly). But most people never experienced how good 3D could be, because that was the last year LG 4K OLEDs supported 3D.

Such a shame.

With 120Hz TVs being the norm, there's no excuses not to have a 3D Functionality standard. Heck I even had a 3D conversion kit for ANY tv to show 3D content.

I have so many 3D blurays but nothing to watch them on now. I didn't know LG ever made 3D oled screens. That must be awesome! I was originally watching them with a Benq 3D projector.

I use my PS VR. I'm sure you could rip them and watch on a better headset though. They also still make 3D projectors.

they have plenty of good music. the difference now is that there's no real trends anymore. no distinct pop-culture.

the entire market is insanely fragmented due to streaming being the number 1 way to listen to music, while radio and music television are completely irrelevant.

so there is basically no way for a true pop culture identity to form like it was in the past decades.

the most you have is 1 or 2 songs going viral among a certain subset of people for a few weeks

I don't really understand why TVs don't support it anymore. it can't be much of an issue having support for it can it?
especially if it's with shutter glasses (which aren't great of course, but would be at least something...)
