Genei Ibunroku #FE - Story ("Debut Single") Trailer

Still don't know how to feel. Can't say anything appeals to me, but I like keeping an open mind. I'm surprised they're not harping on the FE connections a little more, but I guess it's not like that's a big fanbase they need to energize or anything.

I dunno, this game's weird. Just don't know how to feel about it.

Oh, a remix of Fire Emblem's main theme playing during the early part of the trailer doesn't count? =P

Haha, that's what I get for not having sound turned on. Still, they're not really putting FE out there real big in terms of fan-service, at least as of yet. I dunno, it makes sense.

I'm gonna be honest, the idol life stuff just doesn't appeal to me. But, you know, we'll see how it goes.

I disagree. They've been talking about the Fire Emblem connections very prominently in the developer interviews, plus showing them off in the previous trailers and media releases. The big deal about the game just last week was that Tharja, Virion and Draug were to appear as Mirages.

It's just not a "Fire Emblem" game, so it's not like the media is going to be all about that.

Hope they give it an English name soon. Ibun Roku probably won't resonate with the fans too much.
Performa: #FE could work even if it's silly

They are, but it's so heavily obscured. The connections are super tenuous, really just names and general appearance at best.

I mean, I get it though. The point of this game is not necessarily to be fan-service for FE fans. It's part of what it's doing, but it's being its own thing at the same time.

It's just so surreal seeing a game that, by all means, should appeal to me, end up not appealing to me at all. But hey, you never know. I'm keeping an eye on it.

Performa would be extremely weird because of its in-game meaning. I could see Mirage Revelations #FE working better.

But yeah, the longer they go without giving it an official name, the longer media outlets continue calling it "Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem" and giving readers the wrong impression.

Looks pretty sweet, don't really mind the idol shit honestly. I can get over it. The only thing that will disappoint me is if they only really focus on Awakening and Shadow Dragon. Give me Hector or Lyn! I just want some FE7 representation, that's still probably my favorite

The Carnage Forms look really really great and I'm loving the atmosphere and the style in general.

Oops, they already confirmed that the bulk of the game will be around those games... I'm going to throw the wild guess that if this game is successful enough to spawn a sequel then the next games could focus on the other FE settings.

So far, they're sticking with each character only having one mirage. If that's really the case and they don't suddenly reveal swappable mirages, they barely have enough slots to show important people from Awakening and Shadow Dragon while covering the main class types. It's not surprising they'd focus only on two games in this case.

We don't even have a 2nd character with a sword using mirage yet (another lord, mercenaries or myrmidons), only the protagonist with Chrom.

Assuming it is. For some reason I'm still not convinced it actually will be in the end.
Nintendo of America is pushing relatively hard this one (at least compared to FFV or W101 =P) and this was presented worldwide during a Nintendo Direct, the main trailer showed during E3 and almost an hour long segment with gameplay during the Treehouse presentation...

This one is coming.

Every character will have only one Mirage, but I bet they'll make "Mirage Skin" DLC. Want Hector? Ike? Roy? Gotta pay up.

I really wonder if every character will have only a Mirage but I'm more inclined to believe that they are going to have more to get a nod to the Re-Classing System in Fire Emblem.

Hopefully you can also "Promote" them or something =P

Depending on the importance of the lyrics of the songs, they could leave those un dubbed. They did dub the FE Fates song, so maybe they'll do this. Seems like a lot of work for little pay off, tho.

Watching that trailer (only made it halfway through) it's still so mindblowing to me that this is what became of the 'Fire Emblem x SMT' announcement.

It looks like 'P4: Dancing All Night x Idolmaster'. I have no idea how they expect to be able to sell this in the west, to the limited audience on the Wii U no less.

The whole thing is just so bizarre, but at the same time I'm glad that truly strange retail games can still arise out of nowhere in our stale modern environment. Feels like a throwback to an older time when games were easier to develop.

For that reason alone, for the sheer risk-taking ballsiness of Nintendo to greenlight this, I think I'm duty bound to buy and play this game.

Despite its J-Pop theme, it's still very much a SMT game with FE inspiration. The dungeons and combat systems still look pretty good to me.
Still a bit weirded out over the hate. It's closer to what I wanted than what I was expecting.

This game is COMPLETELY anime, It would be so jarring if it was only available dubbed rather than Japanese with subs.

It's so distinctly japanese in nature that attempting to dub it would just be.. weird.

4kids should not be your standard of dubbing
Its not the 90s anymore

Yeah, the gameplay's there. It looks really competent in that department. I'm really curious, but nothing else really interests me.

It's such a conflicting game to me! We'll see. I don't think I ever would have played Persona without some goading, so this might be the same deal.

Bias aside, this has to be the most good looking game on the Wii U. The first and last standard RPG on the platform.

Something I've noticed. The faces are the same as the Smash Bros FE faces. Not sure who decided that's how FE characters should look like in 3D

Looks pretty good at times but some of the environments aren't very impressive and the pulled back camera doesn't help much. X looks a bit better outside of the humanoid character models

Hahaha dat FE main theme mixed with pop.

Going to be ironic when this atlus game cames translated to Pal5 because of Nitendo, while the game thats going to sell millions more, persona 5 comes in english only.
I suppose. Apparently they also localised these into French and Germany.
And spanish and italian.

Did it because some of the songs have indications in its lyrics for the rhythm parts and thought its was better for the majority of people to get into te game.
The game didnt sell a lot so the wii game came only in english and japanese music, but still had translated texts.

The dub into pal 5 so people didnt need to read subs while playing also came in games like starfox, what is baffling is that kid icarus didnt get a dub when its the game it needs it most because of its fast pace and children and teens being its audience and this people not being experts in english language.

They said they wanted to turn this into its on franchise, which is why its not completely FE and not completely SMT, so even if the first game doesnt super knock it out of the park, they most likely are gonna make atleast one more game im guessing

Where did they say that?
Would be nice for it to become a franchise. Nintendo could use some more big JRPGs franchises.
Benefiting from having an audience of FE, SMT, and persona fans should help the game sell if it's good despite the JPop-ness. Probably won't sell amazingly well when it launches because of its current situation but I can see an NX port (handheld+console versions) releasing later and doing well

is there like a full version of it somewhere yet?

because this is a game about japanese pop music... and no matter how good the localisation turns out to be, it would still feel wrong.
that's like making a game about country and dubbing it into chinese.

Huh, isn't some Japanese pop music, at least as presented in Persona, in English, even when sung by Japanese singers (Burn my dread, time to make history, reach out to the truth, mass destruction, etc"). Obviously there are differences in the pop scenes from country to country, but the overall goal of "mass produced pop spectacle is still a thing here in the US.

It was in one of the interviews when they did the official re-reveal, they said they wanted to turn it into a franchise, course dont quote me on this. Kinda dont want to go through the effort of finding it, especially since i have to head to work in a few minutes.

Damn I haven't really kept up that well. Kinda unfortunate. I like Awakening a lot, but I do wish some of the older installments get some love. FE just mostly seems to be Awakening and Marth now, and even Ike is well represented. It's just disappointing since FE7 was the game that got me into SRPGs in general as well as FE, and it seems like it's this forgotten piece of it. Awakening is the big seller though and Marth is decently known so I understand why they're doing this.

I don't have anything positive to say about this game at this point, but I definitely want to give it a chance

Really hope it doesn't disappoint

I think they'll be swappable mirages ... otherwise I think Marth would have been the main mirage over Chrom.

Those posts that claim that Atlus chose the idol theme because they were out of ideas comically stupid to me. Saw it in a few previous threads too. Is it that really hard to accept that the idol thing is still an idea? Not an idea that you like, not an idea that you need to like, but something they're basing their game on.

Do you think Atlus was struggling for ways to excuse fanservice in a game and went "uh... uh... let's just go with idols." And then they were just stuck getting in contact with related companies, writing songs, and designing characters and plots around the entertainment industry because there was nothing else they could do?

If Atlus were actually creatively bankrupt here, they would have just done the obvious crossover everyone was thinking of when they saw the SMT X FE teaser. And if they were that desperate for fanservice, they would have just slapped some titties in there.

...Anyway, I think the kimono in the schoolgirl character is another sign that she's an enka singer. Kimonos are standard for them. I think that's going to be really weird, like she was singing Elvis.

I expect less than mediocre sales from Japan.
It doesn't seem to have much buzzing.

99.9% sure this game will bomb everywhere.

99.9% sure this game will bomb everywhere.

This game is going to do well in Japan, and I bet it will do well in North America too.

As far as the Wii U goes, there are so many other games that you could call "bomb" that this will do better than. For example, this game will perform better than Bayonetta 2.

Wii U game, unusual subject matter, crossover between two franchises while alienating many fans of both. Even if the game ends up to be really good, I'm going to remain pessimistic for now.
And I do mean bomb in the general sense, not "bomb in comparison to all of the other bomb software on a system that is also a bomb".

I say it's not going to bomb in the general sense, especially not in Japan. Nintendo is doing a lot of marketing for #FE. They've even announced a large scale concert for it that will be happening in 2016. The game's not even out yet and they've announced that.

They've stated that this is a new IP that they want to expand upon in the future. The point of alienation isn't significant enough apart from the occasional forum whining for that to be a factor. What it will come down to is the game's quality and its marketing, and the latter is already being covered in Japan.
