Genuinely surprises me how often I feel like I've heard something before.

There I am laying on my bed, listening to a playlist with stuff like Cameo, Rick James, Bobby Brown, Debarge, Rockwell etc

& Then comes on Patrice Rushen - Forget me nots

& I look up, thinking this sounds just like men in black, a childhood fave off my mine.

Crazy right?

Anyone other similar songs GAF users?

Please don't lure the "your memories are infused with everyone on the planet and past-lives" people.

I'm placing bear traps right now.

These days, I'd say all music is similar to something before it. It's unavoidable. If it's not a direct rip-off, or sample, it's an accidental coincidence.

There are only so many chords and progressions.

Many new songs borrow from older music.

Like I swear Elton John did this song before this Duda lipa.

Hehe rocketman? I'm pretty surprised to see Elton John is still going.

Then again I remember when scouting for girls released "she is lovely" then I heard the album, and I'm almost certain every song was the same with different lyrics.

Well your example is a direct sample.. a lot of hip hop / RnB songs these days still sample old great music. I just hope all those 70s and 80s artist are getting paid as well but more than likely the record companies own their songs. 👎
