Very sad news.

I'm going to listen to "You Are All Diseased", "Back In Town" and "Doin' It Again" in his honor.

R.I.P.

Not happy he's gone, but I never understood why everyone liked him so much.

For me, I knew George from when I was lil, when he would be Mr. Conductor for the Thomas the Tank Engine show.

Both him and Ringo Starr. Thats how i knew both. lol.

I liked George cause he added his own humor to the show.

I was having the worst morning I've had in years before I read the headline.

Now?

Man tears. Baby man tears.

Who knew I still had it in me?

I'll miss ya, George.

terrible. My wife and I saw George last year and he was awsome. I'm so glad I got the chance. he will be missed. Truly an Icon. Truly Brilliant.

"I'm sure he is up there, SMILING DOWN on us right now"

Retro Carlin was the best. He got far too fucking preachy near the end for my taste. Early Carlin was the best Carlin.

Wonder how his new belief system worked out for him.

I'm watching old clips and stuff of him from back in the 70s. He really was larger than life. I remember reading an interview with him a few years ago and the guy asked him, "If comedy hadn't worked out for you, what do you think you would have done for a job?" and Carlin said, "I think I would have liked to have been a professor, teaching at a university." I can think of no other job that would have suited him.

The more you read up on him the more you realize what a truly important individual Carlin was. And I don't think you can say that he's "Second best" to Pryor... I think you just gotta say that these two, plus maybe a couple others, are the downright BEST and it's pointless to rank them.

Sure he was preachy as shit, but most of his preaching was fairy logical - INVISBLE MAN IN THE SKY LOLOL so i enjoyed it.

Shit... one of my favorites.

Not so sure how logical some of it was. Carlin was far more sly and compelling in his youth. Near the end, far left lunatic fringe :-P

Fuck. I still remember watching all his HBO specials growing up in the 80's. One of my all time favorites. He was the spiritual bookend to my love of Philip K. Dick and the grouchy voice we all need in our lives. RIP, George, there will never be another.

I didn't get to see any shows of his near the end, but from what I've heard and seen otherwise, the whole "Far left lunatic fringe" thing was done on purpose, almost for entertainment for himself. I mean I heard about shows where he was just slamming everything sacred to simply piss the audience off.

I think a lot of his latter-years (and I'm talking like the last five years, as I think his 2001 album was still solid) stuff was just him being bored and pissed and trying to get anyones attention.

Fucking legend.... terrible news but 71 years ain't half bad for a comedian. I hope where ever he is he's not washing his hands.

RIP

This fucking sucks. One of the only good memories I have of my spending time with my father, who I don't really get along with, is going to see Carlin do stand-up live. It was a fucking excellent show.

What shitty news to wake up to.

Holy fuck.......what depressing news to wake up to. Carlin was great. I saw him several times and now can't believe he's gone.

Wow dude shut the fuck up. Because being far left makes you a lunatic. No more than being far right and thinking that the Bible should be the guiding book of our country right?

No, has nothing to do with that.

Years ago he ruled. One of the funniest comedians ever. In his old age, he slipped and got preachy and boring (probably got real appealing to this side of GAF as a result). He was far less appealing to his general audience as time progressed. I go to a stand up comedy show to be entertained, not preached to. Carlin lost my respect a long time ago. I'm not obligated to be a parrot like the rest either.

:lol Stay classy, Doc. Stay classy.

A once funny comedian who turned into a bitter and unfunny old man in his later days. Not that I particularly cared for his style of humor, but I still respected him.

Al Sleet, the hippy-dippy weatherman, would have me in stitches everytime he read the forecast for tonight.

Tonight's forecast: Dark, with scattered bits of light until morning.

Thanks for all the laughs George . . . you will be missed.

John Stewart, Bill Maher, and others . . . you guys really need to step up to the plate now that George Carlien and Bill Hicks are both gone.
