Getting ads for a far-right party before the election in Germany

I just noticed two ads while browsing through the forum which I never got before on any other website and well, it surprised me a bit to say the least.
The ads are for the far-right party AfD which will be running in the upcoming German federal election here in Germany on the 23rd of February.
Getting those ads from my own algorithm wouldn't make much sense for me because I definitely do not belong in their demographics and I also don't visit or consume content on other pages with any right-leaning content or anything like that.
So I wondered if GAF is the reason I got those ads because this forum definitely is anything but a leftist forum and that my visits on GAF and being a German just lets the algorithm assume I tend to be right-wing with my views.

I've been lurking for around 10 years in this forum and this has been the first time I've ever come across an advertisement for an election in Germany while just browsing casually, I never got any ads for elections before on any other page, let alone AfD ads.
I know political discussions should stay minimised in this forum and I'm not trying to start a debate whether which party should win the next election or who I best see fit, it just caught me off guard and I wanted to know if any other members from Germany got any kind of election advertising while browsing through GAF, maybe even for some other parties?

what is the concern?

I'd say it is targetd to young males. They are leaning conservative.
I don't know what you mean by "far right". The center and Left have gone "far Left" decades ago and and now everything even slight right is "far right".
Orange man is barely a conservative 20 years ago.
It's a political ad on a website that does everything it can to move away from politics?

You've either been to their website, or you've been searching them on your browser. At least looking up a lot of politics anyway.

That's how ads work here. They're based on what you've been looking up online.

germany has multiple right leaning parties, and the AfD is clearly far right, no matter your definition. the CSU is a center right party, as is the FDP.

this isn't the US where the 2 party system results in a single viable left leaning party that has to internally juggle everything from slightly left leaning people all the way to literally communists, and the same for a single viable right leaning one where extremists and moderates are mixed into eachother.

in germany you got a party for every flavour... I mean just recently we got a new left wing conservative socialist one that gained decent traction.

This is the dumbest take. I don't know if you're European, but no, not everything "sightly right" is seen as far right here. AfD rightfully is though. They're far, far right.

As for the orange man, no, back then he wasn't far right, he was supposedly a Democrat (guess it served him better at the time). Now he's very, very far right. He has no ideology of his own really, he only does what can give him and his oligarch friends the most power and money. He doesn't care about anything else.

Germany seems like a hot mess. I loved it when I went to Düsseldorf a couple of years back for new years eve, the people were lovely, met some nice folks. I took my wife and son. Whilst in the main square at ten to midnight the place got swamped with some right dodgy fuckers who ended up chucking fireworks into the crowds and getting rowdy amongst families with young children, and there was hundreds

We went back to the hotel, I couldnt risk my family being in the middle of it.

I personally saw a few girls getting accosted by gangs of migrants too down on the train platforms, it was awful.

Whether you think 'Oh no, Far right' or dont. You must admit there is a serious problem over there, especially if you're a young girl..

It is what it is I guess 🤷‍♂️

Ads are served entirely by Google based on your demographics and browsing history and their terms of service as to what is acceptable content. We don’t endorse any political parties in Germany one way or another. Consider supporting the site with NeoGAF Gold for an ad-free experience.
