Ghost Recon (X360) pics

This has to be in my Top 5 most anticipated officially announced Xbox 360 games.

Perfect Dark Zero
Frame City Killer
Resident Evil 5
Ghost Recon 3

I would add Halo 3 to the top of that list, but Bungie and Microsoft haven't officially announced it yet. Despite Bill Gates' blabberings.

This game looks hot. These 'this doesn't look next-gen to me' comments practically kill me. This game is great looking

Great looking != next gen

I do think it looks really nice, though. If it actually animates as well as those trailers, I will be especially impressed...

Ok, so if that's the case - define Next Gen.

Many of the Sony PS3 demos represent what I want from next gen. They were not all realtime by any means and we may never even get there, but that's closer to what I want.

I wanted something closer to movie level CG rather than last gen visuals. This game looks really good, but seems more like a simple hop rather than a leap.

I'm almost sure it won't look like that. Why? Well, that picture is in-game but it's just running on an alpha-kit (25-30% of real hardware) so when the game is running on 100% hardware or beta-kit (aprox. twice the power as alpha-kit) it's won't surprise me if the game will look like this:

hahahaha...

These screenshots do not impress me as much as the originals.

I don't understand why people continue to throw this around...

They don't design the games for the alpha hardware, you know. They design them for what they anticipate the final hardware will be running at. A lot of early games end up running at VERY low framerates on the alpha hardware simply because they are expecting a massive jump with the final hardware.

Do you realize how many assets they've already created and how many more they would need to create if they were to completely change the game? They aren't going to just scrap everything saying "oh, that work was made for the alpha kit...let's re-do all of the assets for the faster hardware!".

Launch software generally fails to REALLY utilize the hardware for this reason. The developers have to guess along the way and, when the final kit becomes available, get everything working.

Anybody expecting games shown on alpha hardware to suddenly look 10x better on the final hardware are only fooling themselves.

I said this for months, and now it's coming to pass. The improvements from E3 to launch will be incremental, not monumental. I don't know why I got bitched at for saying that, when it was pretty obvious. Art assets and the fact that they need to tighten code. There's just not a ton of time to redo visual assets. There might be some nice increases in shader effects though as seen with CoD2. That game got a nice improvement, but most games won't see even that. I mean, CoD2 was rather weak (visually) at E3, so it makes sense that it should finally look good. Smoke effects are still sweet-ass though. I just hope I-8 sees a significant improvement from its current form, b/c I really don't like how that game looked, and I expect a lot more from Insomniac. :(

Oh yeah...next-gen....I....C....O...... 8O 8O 8O That's what this gen is all about, bitches. The ICO team setting the fucking art standard for another generation. Though I never bought ICO, and can't play Wanda (no PS2), the ICO team's next-gen project is my most anticipated next to GT5. And if you know how much of a Polyphoyn Digital whore I am, you know that's saying a lot. I can't wait.

Hmm, don't want to derail the thread, so I do think GR3 should improve in the lighting dept before it's done. There was that one shot of the marine up against the wall with the bullet holes around him. That was my favorite shot from E3, and I hope the final product is as well-lit as that. Lighting lighting lighting. Have I said it enough yet? :lol PEACE.
