Ghostbusters |OT| Is it the boobs?

I've appreciated Ghostbusters 2 only after becoming a dad it seems. Seeing the way Murray interacts with baby Oscar warms my heart whenever I see it. Never cared for it before appreciating those moments from Bill. That, and my son repeating the "Do - Ray - Egon" line when we were teaching him Do Re Mi haha.

Unless there was a specific joke they filmed with that character being put in the ambulance, I can see why they'd cut it.

Like mentioned before, jokes are hard to cut out of a comedy. You want to keep the best ones, or the ones that are both the best, and still fitting/appropriate for the character (sometimes ad-libbing can be fucking hilarious, but totally out of that character's motiviation; it's just the actor having fun; it's why so many actors are allowed to basically riff off of their own personalities over what's written in the script sometimes). One of the issues I had with the movie was how little I felt Wiig and McCarthy were able to just be themselves while playing their characters.

Both of them are very funny, but I feel like they were being steered into being this characters, contrary to their natural comedic inclinations. It's why I felt that Jones and McKinnon were the highlights of the film. They were allowed to play more off of their natural personalities, and their characters are better for it. Even Hemsworth was able to play off of his goofiness and make a memorable character. I'm a really big Kristen Wiig fan, but I thought her and McCarthy were the most forgettable characters in the movie. I liked them, but when I think of the moments in the film that had me cracking up, it was because of Jones, McKinnon, and Hemsworth.

I'm really hoping we get a cool cut of the movie on Blu Ray. I'd like more than just deleted scenes. I loved the theatrical release, but it'd be awesome if we got a director's cut with some of the missing elements put back into place (in particular an act 3 moment that felt like it was taken from a previous cut of the film in regards to set up, with the act 3 moment being the payoff).

What? How would that be non-essential? What could be cut would be something like the go nowhere joke about Ed Begley characters name (why did that think that was funny?) Rather than letting the audience know that character didn't die in a relatively deathless movie.

The Ed Begley Jr father/son joke was hillarious so that's why they didn't cut that.

[I wonder if the Extended Cut BluRay will put
Murray's character being OK and wheeled into an ambulance
back in? Honestly seems like something that was cut because they HAD to get the movie under a certain time and it wasn't absolutely essential.

Considering how little of a fuck the aforementioned actor gave to putting in any effort at all, I don't think the spoilered scene is canon in their minds, nor do I think it'll ever be brought up again.

This movie's villain kinda sucked tbh

I agree. I was hoping for something else. From the spoiler thread what I posted. Nothing special.

I watched this last night had a lot of fun. Was dissapointed with the final encounter (unnecessary double homage with the giant battle as they already had the parade blimps with the marshmallow man and it kind of undermined the bad guys quirks and mental capabilities). Also wish that Kevin had actually been the bad guy all along (really pulling the strings) as a fun twist or something. But I still enjoyed it.

Humor is subjective, a plot point going from A to B is not.

Once he went out the window his role in the movie was over. The only benefit to showing him in the ambulance is akin to the old GI Joe cartoons showing everyone with parachutes so that people don't freak out they died when their planes exploded. He has nothing to do with the plot anymore once he goes out the window. On the flip side of that, Ed Begley Jr's character is actually integral to the movie's story, and the joke involving him being dead/not being dead is how he is introduced to Abby and Holtzman before letting them into the house, AKA integral to the plot.

And him
being revealed to be alive
would havs had nothing to do with plot going from A to B soooo

It would show that this world isn't populated by morons with goldfish memories. It could show the previous unbeliever actually believes now. World-building? What's that? Does it have anything to do with a eye-rolling quip, lame joke, or Chris Hemsworth being unbelievably stupid? No? Can't use it then.

But Im going to with DeathyBoys answer since it made the most sense.

Maybe they kept it open on purpose knowing Murray's fickle nature regarding this brand...

I took my family to see it tonight.

I'm old enough to have seen the original in theaters when I was 20 or so. It's one of my faves, as it was for most young geeks back then.

That being said, I went into this with an open mind. I love Wiig and McCarthy.

We laughed a ton. I really enjoyed it. The best part was my 12 year old daughter who clearly ADORED it. I could see through her eyes - here was a movie with women kicking ass and taking names. Any time Holtzmann was on the screen my daughter laughed at her antics, and after the dual-wielding scene towards the end she said to me "Holtzmann is my spirit animal!"

My wife also loved it. It's clear it was the kind of movie women wanted/needed. My 12 year old son and I also enjoyed it a lot.

It's sad that the man-babies have campaigned against it, it deserves a sequel.

It would have been a funny gag if
later in the movie they showed like TVs in a store window or something and they were doing another interview with him and he was in like full-body bandages, but then that would have required some actual effort on Murray's part so I'm not surprised something like that isn't in the movie.

Saw it earlier tonight and not a shock to me, Feig and McCarthy are 0-3. Didn't laugh once. Visually impressive with the ghosts, but that's pretty much the only positive thing I have to say about this movie. Done wasting my time and money on anything directed by Feig and anything starring McCarthy

I'm sure he would have complained about how heavy the costume was.

Wait, that book actually exists now? Woah. :o

Yeah. It's not 400 pages as they say in the movie, it's about 200.

But it's framed as a revised edition so it includes post movie info like breakdown of how the proton pack works. Erin and Abby are listed as authors on the front. It's pretty cool.

It has backstory on Erin and Abby.

Explanations of the Ghosts and Demons Class system.

A bunch of stuff.

And lol it has a
forward from Martin Heiss! Aka Bill Murray's character, who according to the book survived the fall and is now a believer and wrote a forward for this revise edition. This book is stupid cool

Neat, even has an audio version on Audible. :)

There's something about like needlessly mean jokes that make me laugh out loud, like the anti-Irish fence and the "I know how to read" thing, it's just so absurd and out of nowhere it makes me laugh every time.

Ha ha ha even the book is making fun of the sexist backlash to the movie.

qMU6XUY.jpg

It's from the chapter on the "history" of paranormal research clubs. Bwhahahaha.

Full Torso Apparitions didn't scare them. But cooties? Board up the windows

LMAO. This book is going to be great.

I saw it tonight with my sister and we both loved it. The audience in the theater laughed frequently and, in a first for me, people clapped at the end. I've read about that here on gaf but never witnessed it before.

My sister also said that if Chris Hemsworth is cast in a Magic Mike movie in the future she'd probably pay to see that in theaters 3 or 4 times easy.

When we saw it there was a group of 3 or 4 women that were just losing it at every joke. I feel like their enjoyment of the film was enhancing my experience.

There was this older white guy that was in stitches throughout the entire fucking movie. Our theater wasn't packed, but it was a group of a lot of different people, of all ages and ethnicities, and they seemed to really enjoy it. Me and my wife loved it. We're also both HUGE Ghostbusters fans, and I'm so glad this movie wasn't Pixels or >insert any Adam Sandler or Kevin James movie here<. It was a genuinely fun time. I wasn't sure we were going to see it in the theaters, because movies aren't cheap here in LA, but it was a lazy Sunday, so we decided to head out of the house and check out a matinee show. It really is enhancing when you see a movie with a bunch of people that are enjoying it. I remember we saw Scream 4 in a theater with this one guy that was just so into the movie. He had us cracking up at his reactions to the stuff happening. Good times.

I love that stuff. There was a group of about five 12-13 yr old girls behind my friend and I when we went and saw it in IMAX; they were whispering a little bit and a few things made 'em jump, accidentally kicking the seats, but honestly I didn't even care :P I wish I'd had a movie like this come out when I was that age, goddamn!!

You know sometimes I wonder if Bill Murray is actually really trying his best and he's sad because we all say he's not. What if he cries. What if we all make Bill Murray cry.

Saw this a few nights ago and wasn't very impressed. I even struggled to stay awake towards the end, and that doesn't usually happen to me.

I felt that the entire movie simply lacked energy throughout. I also felt that Melissa McCarthy has a lot of trouble shining with the restriction of a PG-13 rating. Kristen Wiig also seemed especially inconsistent, as I saw mentioned before. Like she was playing two of her signature typecast characters in one movie.

Not really a fan. I laughed a bit here and there, and even tried to laugh even when I didn't truly feel the need to, but overall this was quite a forgettable and ho-hum movie as far as I'm concerned.

The book is pretty cheap on Amazon, but there's also a hardcover version for a bit more. It's not "new" but the description says unread and in perfect condition. May go with that one as I'm not a fan of paperback.

Anyone else notice the piano cues from the teaser were actually in the movie, before the
piano gets thrown or something in the Mercado near the end

Oh for fuck's sake

I just made a thread about a massive fire happening in Hollywood right now. I jump on Twitter looking for more updates and this is the first tweet below the initial report:

Leigh LahavVerified account ‏@leighlahav 4h4 hours ago Los Angeles, CA
sony released a statement saying the Hollywood fire is in fact "not an act of god, angered by an all female ghostbusters reboot"

I honestly don't even know if this is sarcasm or not, it's all just blurring together.

She;s just some LA comedian, she also wondered if the fire was a Banksy piece

I really wanted to love this, but I couldn't quite get into it. It's just not my style of comedy.. my friend is more of a loud and silly comedy guy and he loved it for what it is worth. I felt rather underwhelmed, but it has some solid moments driven by a great cast.

So tomorrow is the last day for IMAX 3D showings and I'm gonna be debating in my head for the next 16 hours whether or not I should try to catch the 7PM showing. My sister and brother-in-law haven't seen it yet and I'd love for them to see it in 3D (preferably IMAX) but he's working tomorrow night and I'd hate to just take one of them so...BLAH.

Here's hoping the standard 3D showing is just as impressive.

It is, but IMAX is so good, I'd just go myself if I were you and see it with fam again later in reg 3D

Yep, leaning towards doing that. I'm just concerned standard 3D is going to be a blurry/out of focus mess whereas the IMAX 3D generally tends to be crystal clear in my experience.

Do it!

Regular 3D was pretty great though so you'll be fine, but see it in IMAX while you can it is soooo worth it

Watched it Monday!

Fantastic and funny movie. Jillian is such a fucking weirdo and I love her along with Patty.

Rowan being a big ghost (from the logo!) was neat but overall, he really wasn't a great antagonist. He got better once he possessed Kevin though.

Leslie Jones is legit the best part of the movie. I really want a sequel. Gah, will have a more detailed write up! May have to see this twice! 3D was pretty good too! It's awesome to see GB again.
