Brad, please research the news that your going to talk about instead of just saying that Evo happened. You guys didn't even talk about the big news of a ps1 pad player winning the street fighter finale as a European. The news section was embarrassing.

You already know these things because you already care about Evo.

I do not care about Evo and none of those things are even vaguely interesting.

I don't follow esports at all, but people were going nuts inside of FFXIV about JWong, and linked a stream. It wasn't bad, as the announcers did their best Gus Johnson impersonations, where ever move was ASTONISHING!

Ohh boy haha today's bombcast comments... a good chuck of GB community is not good at handling change.

Plus wtf!? what´s wrong with having girls around is certainly more fun, a sausage party is depressing. Some duders seem to have gynophobia ( abnormal fear of women), which is kind of hilarious.

Why bring it up then? If you don't give a shit about it then don't talk about it. You'll look less clueless too.

Huh, Rorie locked the comment section to a Bombcast post.
Has that ever happened before?

I feel like Rorie and moderators that participated egged all of the controversy up by posting in the thread instead of sending a PM to the offenders individually and/or deleting the comment for being offensive (I guess a lot of the comments were deleted since I didn't see anything too outrageous and my Simpsons enter/exit .gif was deleted within a minute).

Wait, You trolled with a gif but you also think Rorie and the mods are hyping up the controversy? Or are you reacting to the comments and not the podcast?

I'm not surprised it's locked given the shit they're seeing lately.

Another good example of why I'm staying as far away as possible from the GB comments/forums. Ugh

I would never want to switch place with Rorie, he has a shitty job to do.

However, I do think the moderation team in general is way too quick on the delete and bans in general. Obviously all the really shitty stuff needs to go but they still delete a bunch of negative comments that are just that...negative.

We've seen plenty of example in the last couple of weeks, especially in Patrick's stories where they would delete any negative comments no matter how polite it was.

They're not gonna improve the quality of the community if they keep censoring everybody who not approving what they're doing.

Reacting to the comments, not the podcast. I guess I could see why anyone would think the other way if given no context.

If you look at the comment section post by post then you can see the bottom falling off once Rorie gets really involved and starts to call out publicly each person who has a different opinion, which is a solid way of pissing them off. If he would have handled each situation individually, maybe it would have been more civil.

Though, there are some comments disapproving of the bad comments before it starts to look rough. So maybe that was happening and my theory disproves itself.

Is weird because Patrick is/was known for taking criticism well.

I really doubt that would be feasible if it got to the point they felt addressing everyone was necessary.

Good on Rorie for closing it. It's a drastic measure, but maybe some people will take a good, hard look in the mirror now (who am I kidding..). Also, there's no point in dealing with an avalanche.

Oh, and by responding publicly, he's being transparent while laying down ground rules. People getting more upset by actual raison is not his fault.

Rorie has been saying for like a month now that they have new rules for the community that they will post "soon". In the meantime the mods still go by those secret rules to ban and delete everything they don't like. A bit shitty.

It really sucks that some people have to be so closed-minded and resistant to things outside of their odd comfort zones. It was an extremely good edition of the Bombcast. I enjoyed it and the guest was great!

Maybe they're doing it to cull more idiots.

It's a damn shame that Rorie had to close the podcast comments. I don't envy having to make snap judgements on what is or isn't going to be ok in today's hypersensitive climate. Especially given the last couple weeks controversy.

For some reason I'm oddly curious about the age of the people making these hateful or just plain uninformed posts about sexuality or other similar volatile topics. I can't help but hope they're all very young. Not that it makes it ok for them to do it, I still feel it's wrong. It's just I would find it easier to comprehend than people getting into their late twenties or even older still feeling the need to be so rude.

I'm so happy for Jeff.
He wanted this for so long.

Yay, Jeff!

What were the issues that some had? I think Samantha was great and would love to see her return.

Liking Samantha would require those people to actually listen to the episode. Oh, and not be sexist jerks, almost forgot about that.

(Obv referring to hateful, prejudiced people, nobody's obligated to like her or the episode, of course.)

The rules kind of constitute the basic premise of 'don't be a jerk'.

Usage of pejorative terms intended to dismiss or insult, like calling people neckbeards or SJWs or redpills or hipsters or what have you, is not appreciated and will lead to moderation.

Furthermore, any "I don't see why people need to talk about this stuff" or "guess I'm skipping this bombcast" comments will be considered dismissive and deleted. If you don't want to join discussion about whatever's discussed in this podcast, then don't.

Well, again, you can thank a number of people who use those type of comments to derail discussions. You can feel free to explicitly state why you dislike a piece of content, so long as it doesn't involve personal attacks and at no times violates any community rules. But as far as the "I don't get why anyone wants to talk about this" kind of stuff, it's considered disruptive and will lead to moderation. It's been a huge problem over the last couple of weeks and we're cracking down.

If you feel like you don't want a certain type of content on the site, there's any number of ways to get that opinion to an editor. The Bombcast itself has an email address, in fact.

I just went over all his comments on the bombcast commentary and none of them were inflammatory, most of them were against thread-derailing; if you pulled that sort of thing over here you'd probably get a ban.

I'm gonna say that this week's podcast was great. Only problem was when they were clueless about what to talk about in regards to Evo, though their uncertainty of it all was pretty funny.

Now I'm gonna look into importing a copy of Tetris 64 'cause it sounds pretty weird/cool.

Also, Dan continues to be the greatest/dumbest role model, considering he's gotten so far in life being so picky with his food.

Guys, this is probably the kind of thing I should know as a regular tumblr user, but...

What the hell is cisgender?

There's kind of a discussion of this topic in the bombcast thread. Think of it as opposite 'transgender'? (Though that's probably oversimplifying it.)

I don't like the term cisgender.
It sounds too much like cyst, and always makes me think of gross puss oozing out.

As I remember reading ages ago, there was some resistance to the term (it was odd, it was jargony, etc.), but they couldn't find anything as 'good' (or neutral, perhaps)?
