I wonder if Patrick is genuinely interested in that mountain game/art project or he only wrote about it because all his indie writing heroes already wrote gushing pieces about it.

For contrast, I would love Jeff to quick look it. Seems just the type of game he has shit on in the past.
That already backfired when people thought Jeff would hate Gone Home. lol

The Shadowgate guy was a bit weird. At times it felt like I imagine remedial teaching to feel. "Grass is green, the sky is ...?" -- "... blue?" -- "Very good!"

Hey guys, I bought a mini fridge! ... and some puppy stuff for some reason. Was I drunk?

Surprised that it's not heavy at all. One person can carry it with no real problem. Now comes the tedious process of wrapping and resending it. Very likely going to have UPS pick it up so I won't have to lug it around myself. One question though for the group. The fridge came in a box inside another box. Both are padded, so shipping it back in just the inner box, but it sort of gives away the surprise.

And I've done an edit on the letter. If anyone wants to take another crack at it, PM me your corrections.

PS. Here's a close up of the puppy stuff:

I plan on printing it out at work along with the packing labels, and have this wrapped up and ready to ship in the morning.

I like the letter, but I can't imagine they'll read it out on camera. doubt they'll want to bring up the controversy. maybe we need the letter to address it more indirectly?

You must not think much of Patrick if you think that could be the reason.

So you're saying The Lobby needs to tune into Porn Radio? Gotcha.

If he can yea, why the hell not (though Jeff doesn't need Porn Radio :P).

Gummi Bears was only part of the very first year of Disney Afternoon, and even then it was the first show in the lineup. Personally I would end up missing that show coming home from school and caught the remaining 3 shows.

i think i was on a shift system back then so i would catch it before i went to school or something.

those days were weird once i try to look back at it.

Meh, better to have a letter like that than something vague just to hope they read it in a Mailbag or whatever. I personally don't care much if they make a Mailbag or not, that's not why I donated.

No better place than san fran.

I agree. It all feels like the faux reverence that you see in a lot of modern art, where something that is really junk that a 5 year old could create, is praised to the heavens by critics who desperately want to see something in the piece. Its how something like this:

Sells for $5 million dollars. In this case, we have a "videogame" that is more like a screensaver being praised as some tremendous expression of art.

The 'my five year old could create this!' movement is the most irritating anti-culture bullshit because subjective value is subjective

Patrick likes horror movies and thick, sponge-like tomato soaked bread with cheese he calls pizza. He is also from Chicago, the most class-less big city in America. Might as well be stuck in the mid-west oh wait.

Brad for Giantbomb President.

Yup.

He liked it? I just remember him calling Brothers "not a game" and unlike Gone Home it actually has gameplay

He wasn't being serious when he said that, he was just saying it to annoy Brad. And yes, Jeff liked Gone Home which dissapointed a lot of "IT'S NOT A REAL GAME!!!!" fans of GB who were convinced he would hate it.

Of course "subjective value is subjective", who said otherwise? That doesn't mean others have to respect the things you value.

I'm still surprised Brothers worked so well on so many people. I thought it was pretty emotionally cloying in a way I wasn't on board with.

When
the Baby Griffin carried you to your next objective marker and then 'died' I was like 'well, yup'

Beaaaaaaautiful backgrounds though.

It's not that you're shitting on the thing, you're shitting on the people who like it too

Its an subjective observation shared by many people. He is painting a visual tapestry on a thought provoking piece that could be made by his child.
Its not anti-culture, its a response to a piece of entertainment. Like much of the modern art which rejects the old, he is rejecting it perhaps inferring it is for future artists like his 5 year old.

Edit2; Its funny that rich art collectors dictate what is of value rather than putting your own valuation to the piece. Should art even have a price tag? Should the exclusivity/rarity dictate the value? Would you put that on your coffee table? Patrick is a critic or at least trying to be but his opinion, in my opinion, holds no value. Jeff despite liking ketchup on hot dogs has a pretty pragmatic views on some subjects, specifically games. He understands the stupidity but entertainment value of moving your thumbs vigorously at a screen.

I find your comment subjectively false. In my opinion.

Sounds like bullshit. My five year old could've come up with this comment

I thought its end game moment was super satisfying mechanically and pretty emotional, but also at the same time all of the steps it took to get the player there were pretty contrived and halfassed

Gone home and brothers both had a great story that might not have been as effectively told in other mediums.

You can call the mountain art if you want. You can call it a game. But that doesn't make it good at being either one of those things

I wasn't really into it either way, but the game also chose to glitch out on me and have an item hover in the air like a meter away from where it was actually supposed to be held
