Just to throw in a bit of constructive criticism, I dunno about the silly gimmicks like the voice effects and the song. It doesn't fit the tone of what Patrick was trying to do which seemed more like an in-depth, serious analysis of a game.

Yeah, I thought that stuff felt really out of place.

People new to video editing tend to over produce them at first. They want to use all the stock effects just because they can.

I really liked the softly-spoken Patrick's video essay, though I agree the voice distortion and music was turned up a little too much. I think it was fine being there, but a little goes a long way. Also, with that long of a title, I thought he said it a little too often. It felt like an awkward interruption in what he was trying to say.

Happy to see him dabbling in video editing, but, yeah, not exactly a fan of his style so far. The more he does it, the more he'll find his voice though.

Yup, I almost turned it off when the voice distortion started to overstay its welcome. It just seemed like an effect being done just for the sake of the effect, and added nothing to what was being communicated.

Regarding: Spintires Quick Look

THE PARK BREAK IS ON YOU BABOONS!

Also c'mon son what's with no game audio guys. I know they are seriously short-staffed with Brad being off and all but the dogman even told you to turn it up.

Also this image the new editor tweeted is making me diabetic. I want to run around the store naked while eating anything and everything. No shame.

I was wondering what was wrong with the video for awhile there.

Did they really not record it with any game audio?

Did they also really release a video of it without the audio?

The mic audio on the Spintires Quick Look is really bothering me. I can't tell if there's some weird reverse-echo on Drew and Jeff or if there's someone talking in the background.

I'm guessing something happened with the recording there, and because Drew wasn't in the control room they didn't catch it during the video.

Testament of sherlock holmes is now on steam summer sale by the way.

Doesn't come with a Ukrainian developer badly demoing the game sadly enough.

The whole CBS public and open recruiting policy (even when everyone knew the job would likely go to a known name with experience) has turned on GB a little. A lot of freelance journos taking to twitter and making vague, slightly passive aggressive, comments about it being sewn up from the start.

I support the - hire the best for the job whatever - approach but the activists are sharpening their knives anticipating the announcement of another two white male hires.

If you want to join http://plzdiversifyyourpanel.tumblr.com , we got lotsa cool peeps on it now: @mikeBithell @tha_rami @pkollar You wanna be cool right

So I guess Rami won't be on GB after show podcasts anymore? I think the lack of grey areas on things like diversify your panel is a bummer. I really don't think anyone at GB would have any issue hiring anyone of any race, gender, or LGBT if the right person comes along. And so far the people that they have are people that they've previously worked with or knew. I also don't think I can say what I just said without sounding a bit like an asshole so I hope I don't present myself as one.

i actually liked the voice mask thing since it seem he was making a joke about actually liking that bionic commando 2009 game.

the rap song was more of a surprise tbh.

re : audio on spintires

If anyone's curious about the audio issues, it looks like the game has some bugs that will cause the audio to steadily go down as you play and go into the menu and come back into the game. I slid the audio as far up as it could go while recording, but by the end there just wasn't any audio coming from the game, so...blame it on Alexis.

Not really sure how you can read that into that retweet. Also, everyone should know that big companies like CBSi will require you to make positions like this public, and they will do it every time. To show that you've considered the best possible candidates etc.

A lot of freelance journos who also have little to no experience on video.

If you're talking about the article I think you're talking about, all that was said (as part of a larger piece about writing about games currently) was that she didn't get even get an e-mail back when she applied. And Patrick thanked her for writing the article. If you're not... regardless, that's legitimate criticism? I'm personally pretty disappointed that we're probably getting another two white men as the hires. There are people who aren't white men who are known names with experience, and even if white men are the majority of that group, at some point you're just feeding that loop and perpetuating that.

Rami'll be on panels if the panels are diverse. Patrick (who booked the guests this year) was aware of the issue with this year's panels before that site was even made, and is apparently writing up something about it (if he hasn't posted that already?). So ideally, Rami will still be around since we'll be getting better, more diverse panels. Everyone wins, hopefully.

Glad Dan is coming next week. Sorry, Drew you really aren't doing much for me during quick looks. More brad and jeff quick looks will do fine.

There are gender/diversity issues in Video Games.

Who gets to be on a panel is pretty far down on that list.

Would Ryan have taken this criticism as seriously as Patrick?

Instead of being passive aggressive and suggestive, I hope people just flat out say what they base their disappointment on. Like for an example if person Y didn't get invited to an interview, they should start the conversation by listing their qualifications and comparing them to Dan Ryckert's.

It's one thing to say "Boohoo I didn't get hired because they hired a white male" but it would definitely carry a ton more weight if instead they made a point on how much more qualified they were.

Of course I guess even then there's no objective way to quantify/qualify one's entertainment value but that doesn't jive well with their point, does it?
