Giant Bomb E3 2012

Is Ryan always being a dick to Will a joke, or does he really dislike the guy?

The only genuine vitriol in this sphere seems to be from some of NeoGAF to some journalists/developers.

It's all good-natured ribbing between Ryan and Will.

Oh my god...

L4d was a coop survival horror and I always thought it could get a jump out of me and my friends, maybe I should give dead space 3 the benefit of the doubt

Jaffe stealing my ideas! I literally have a GDD written up with crazy co-op ideas. But as always ideas are a dime a dozen. Figuring them out is tough.

Have any developers ever marketed a pure co-op experience where 3/4 of the way through the game it drops a bomb in your lap where you're all of a sudden pitted against your co-op partner and you have to face off against one another as only one of you can make it out alive?

I know save state duplication and shenanigans make that tricky but I think that would make a fun twist. Sort of like a collaborative Running Man / Hunger Games concept that turns PvsP at the end.

wait i lost the stream what was his idea

A co-op survival horror game where both players are experiencing different things at the same time. Like one player will witness the other hang himself and vice-versa, or the players will think they're in the same place but really aren't.

That's seriously a rad idea.

I really want to see co-op that doesn't require players to be in the exact same area doing the same shit. Like in a Dead Space game you both are separated at the beginning and are trying to escape at the same time. You can only communicate with radios, an occasionally can cross each other. Game would need multiple paths for times when one player is slower than another. No doubt it would be difficult to figure out, but fuck if that wouldn't be a cool thing to try.

It's been done! If you beat Double Dragon in two player after the game ends you have to fight your partner to win the girl.

There actually is a game that sorta did this:
Splinter Cell: Conviction. It happens right at the end of the co-op campaign, you turn against the partner and you fight/kill them, but it's right at the end.

Definitely has a lot of potential.

I feel like some obscure arcade game did something like this where the final screen is you fighting your partner for victory. I cant remember anything else about this

Jaffe is wrong about F2P games. He assumes that paid is to bypass content and get advantage. I agree with him if he was right, but neither LoL or DOTA2 do this.

The co op story mode in Conviction did this. You play together the entire time and then in the last mission shit happens that causes you to have to kill each other. I realize it isn't survival horror but it's the same premise.
