Giant Bomb @ E3 2016 | WEED3

That sentiment from Phil at the end was pretty much the same Jonathan Blow said at the end of the Witness video. Just being able to talk about shit is probably freeing for a lot of people in the industry.

Whag a great interview. Good flow tons of great insight. It was good to have both Brad and Jeff there. Top notch stuff. And Phil Spencer seemed comfortable and I thought gave a clear sense of where his mind is at as to the hardware going forwsed

GTA5 is a game that originated on the PS3 and 360.

It clearly is beyond that now though. The original version didn't have volumetric lighting and subsurface scattering but the new one does.

The PC version is very much a modern, graphically-intensive AAA game that still amazes me while still performing great.

Phil is sort of a masterful PR guy. Agree with the question and very accurately address the point, but use it as a segway to answer a question they didn't ask. Both Jeff and Brad wanted to ask about how far they'd force developers to target both platforms, but both times Phil answered a different question without seeming like he was being defensive or condescending.

I mean that is basically what PR training in big companies comes down to. Hit the points you want to make no matter the interviewer's intention and dodge and avoid topics you don't want to discuss as seamlessly as possible.

The thing Phil is great at is seeming incredibly earnest while doing it.

Fantastic interview all around. Phil always comes off really genuine and seems to care about what he does. The marketing speak is of course there to some degree but the answers aren't just empty words without meaning. He seems committed to being open and having these discussions to improve what they do. Phil's the best thing to happen to Xbox maybe ever.

The Xbox brand is in safe hands with Phil at the helm...always love listening to him even though I have little interest in the xbox in general (although the PC anywhere stuff sounds great)

It's terrifying how good an interview Phil is. I'm probably buying a One S after that interview. The simple fact that the guy said "If you don't plan on having a 4K TV I wouldn't suggest buying a Scorpio," is incredibly cool and deserving of respect.

Phil's a great guest, even when Jeff asks questions he can't really answer he at least provides a little morsel of substantive information in there.

I'm still not going to buy an xbox but maybe I'll get some win10 games.

Throw Phil some twitter feedback! Interviews as open and positive and informative as this one should be celebrated and applauded.

I mean, it was a fun interview, but lets not mistake being warm and some charisma for openness. He ducked a lot of questions like the pro he is - it just sounded a lot better than "it's not something we're talking about right now".

I'm going to buy a Neo this Fall and a Scorpio next fall. There is no way the current gen games won't run like crap if they start targeting these high end machines. They will become obsolete just like the phone business.

I just hope if we have a preordered PSVR, there is a way to get priority on picking up a bundled NEO.

Great interview with Phil. I hate the Microsoft Store in Windows 10, but I can respect Phil saying that it's something Microsoft needs to attempt to figure out. They sure as shit haven't done that up to this point, but I can understand the logic. I'm glad that they're at least thinking of PC gaming and getting their exclusives off of their console, even though if they were in Sony's position I'm not sure this would be happening. The less reasons I have to turn on a console the better.

Outstanding interview! Great to see Phil being able to speak so openly about where they see things going in the future for the platform.

So, I work on the Store, but Phil is completely right - if we never released first-party games exclusively on the Store, then we wouldn't have learned nearly as much as we have. Steam releases would have meant much lower volume on the Store. Lower volume on the Store would've meant much less traction with customers, and much less ability for us to debug issues and improve things.

Our success with Forza Apex and Killer Instinct has in particular proven this - they were successful for customers, and successful for us in terms of volume and our ability to find and fix issues more quickly.

Even though we already had a massive amount of improvements in the works for the Anniversary Update coming this Summary, those improvements would've been much less effective without what we learned about releasing the games we did release on the Store so far.

In the meantime, absolutely no one is oblivious to the issues we have with the current iteration in the Store. Especially Phil - he's just as genuine and knowledgeable in person as he is in interviews.

I really hope it all comes together. Origin has definitely come a long way since its first iteration, and I buy games on GoG as often as I can. The fact that a few games along the way will launch poorly is just a really unfortunate side effect

Great interview. Phil is great and does a fantastic job of explaining their thought process on things. I'm still not there at wanting to own an Xbox due to not really being interested in many of the exclusives games they put out, but I feel like they are headed in the right direction with Phil in charge and it wouldnt surprise me if I end up buying an Xbox again in the future.

I'm so glad he didn't have to share this interview time.

Yup! Perfect idea to have him solo with Jeff and Brad. Phil is friggin awesome. Amazing interview. Love the direction the teams are going. Love him being completely upfront and saying "we do and we learn" Yeah they had some rocky PC releases but they will learn and make it better. It's extremely clear that for once the PC is a major focus and things will get much better.

I always enjoy the interviews that jeff gets with phil during e3. This was another great one. Phil did a great job there, even added some levity into it too.

I mean, it was a fun interview, but lets not mistake being warm and some charisma for openness. He ducked a lot of questions like the pro he is - it just sounded a lot better than "it's not something we're talking about right now".

He ducked the ones that I think were too early to answer or could sabotage negotiations with headset makers. The dude literally said "anyone with a calculator can tell we haven't sold as many boxes as them" and that Quantum Break on PC wasn't their best effort and cited Shadowrun being an FPS as a bad idea, etc.

Maybe if he hears that we appreciate even THAT much transparency, he'll dodge one less question next time.
