Giant Bomb @ E3 2016 | WEED3

Another Midway meet-up this year? Boyes is pretty much a guarentee too. Was a little unsure they'd do it again based on what happened with JV and Lang, even if they have smoothed things over. I still cannot believe JV tweeted out Lang's number duing that last stream..

They smoothed things over almost immediately, they're good friends.

I'd just like to see Bakalar lay into Dan for a moment. Keep him grounded. I also wanna see a Jeff and Jeff segment, just to see them interact.

They did, I heard Lang on another podcast and he said he just uses it as a punchline when ever Vignocchi annoys him. He has it for life.

People are actually upset that Sony showed trailer after trailer instead of trotting out mouthpieces?

I thought Wombat from the CAGcast had a good perspective on it:

"As presentations go, it was the best presentation. The live orchestra was one thing, but the fact that they had no one come on stage to talk about how long and hard they worked on the game before showing the game.... I know that everyone likes to talk about how hard they work on what they do, I work very hard myself, but no one cares. No one cares. No one cares about what you have to say, they only want to see your game. And Sony got that, and they showed that. And I was impressed, and I appreciated it."

Oh so you are a South Park fan, surprising. Opinions, how do they work.

Is South Park your only exposure to satire?

Time to take the training wheels off.
Why are you guys attacking that person? Can't he say his piece without the neogaf giant bomb defence force coming to the rescue? Oh shit, someone said something remotely negative about Giant Bomb, time to lay in on this person.

Giant Bomb is my favourite ever website and I have been a premium member since the beginning. I love GB, but it's these weird fucking Giant Bomb apologists in this thread who reply to everything is why I never come here.

I like the mouthpieces and the developers talking.

One might look forward to all the games, but I actually like to have some information alongside those games.

I agree. sometimes the stilted scripted developers are cringy but it is nice for them to get their moment and I like hearing about the games and seeing them in context.

I mean I could go to youtube and just watch a bunch of trailers. I don't particularly care about a Kojima music video or whatever that was. That isn't what I want out of E3.

I knew they were good friends, but even then there are some lines you don't really cross. I'd get over it, but it'd take a little time. Maybe they'll hold back the booze from JV this go around? lol

What if Bakalar is there too?

Jeff is still a triple threat.

Pretty almost all of Giant Bomb Gaf would die of emotional joy. Can't have that much Jeff in a room like that. Need to spread it out some.

Hell even Bakalar and Gerstman in the same room may prove too exciting for most people.

I love the mancrushes people have around here its awesome. I really enjoy GB as it is constituted. I wasn't a big fan of Jeff 10 years ago, but now I definitely get the crew a lot better, especially as I have gotten older. Also Vinny. Vinny Caravella.

I often wonder why A: GAF hasn't made trading cards, or B: no one has made a VN dating sim of GB personalities.

I like it when they aren't cringy but they don't have to be.

I like to know who made the game and what their process to come up with it was.

And yeah, I could watch trailers on YouTube. I don't see the fun in that.

Dude, when you use the SJW card you deserve to hear it back. If he just said that they had bad opinions about South Park, which a lot of people in this thread did, I wouldn't have cared, but that GG bullshit? Nah.

I don't think anyone on NeoGAF, never mind the Giant Bomb portion, has time for people who drive by with "SJW garbage".

By his logic no one should care a tiny bit of what he has to say. Very ironic statement.

This is very true. From a consumer's perspective, it was a hell of a press conference. I can see where the GB guys are coming from though. From the perspective of journalists who want more context and information for their (now) non-existent write-ups, it's terrible. The fact that you can summarize a lot of Sony's announcements in a bullet pointed list can be irksome for people who are used used to the usual sales pitch.

lmao these guys suck, bunch of SJW garbage

You're really going to stand up for this guy?

So you just don't want anyone to reply back to him or what?

I think everyone is just giving their genuine reaction to him.

What's the point of a fucking forum if we can't even fucking reply to someone when we don't like their post.

Anyone using SJW unironically deserves to be piled on.

And Wombats comments also just reinforces how a Direct style approach would work fine. Just shut up and show us the games. The orchestra added to the feel, but honestly you achieve 95% of the same effect witha. Direct feed video.

People are actually upset that Sony showed trailer after trailer instead of trotting out mouthpieces?

I mean, people tune into these shows for the spectacle. I didn't mind it, but I can see why some people would. I mean, otherwise why have a show at all? Why not just release all the trailers and gameplay on YouTube?

As a consumer, it was a curiously underpowered conference. They had a selection of great games and impressive reveals, but the format and the way they presented them all stifled the whole thing. Some games actually felt actively damaged by the way they were showed off (Days Gone, everything VR), and nothing was really showed off to its best.

There are degrees of separation between an EA-style dev interview format, and tossing piles of trailers out with no context or introduction.

One might look forward to all the games, but I actually like to have some information alongside those games.

Exactly how much actual information did you glean from all the tedious and awkward developer introductions? "Hi this is our game. We've been working on it a long time and we're really proud of how things how things are going. Our inspiration was blah blah blah..We wanted create a beautiful and lifelike world that people could interact with and explore....."

Think back to even the more memorable presenters like Jade Raymond or the sword-cane guy. Can you honestly off the top of your head even remember a single fact they shared about their games? I sure as hell can't.

Dude, the guy came in saying crap about SJW and having no enthusiasm for south park...come on.

Well JV wasn't entirely in his own head. I'm sure he would have never done it normally, and I think Lang knew that. It turned into a hilarious bit and now Lang has infinite ammunition on JV. Worked out great in the end!

holy fuck, this thread took a dark turn.

E3 brings out the worst in people.

They will probably skip reactions next year if this keeps going.

I get were you are coming from, but this is the wrong hill to die on
With posts like these you can't blame anybody for not taking this dude serious

My problem isn't so much with the presentation of the show but the fact that the games themselves weren't all that exciting. You can show trailer after trailer but when it's a lot remasters and VR experiences and Last of Us knockoffs I guess I struggle to understand he hype.

That's basically my opinion on this E3 in general, though.

The direct style approach is fine but it's the ambiguity that they're against. Brad was wondering why the Horizon: Zero Dawn demonstration was showing subtitles and he said something along the lines of "Oh, so they must be including it if they're not going to have people come in do a spiel." If the rest of the trailers and announcements had similar framing, I'm sure GB wouldn't be opposed to it. They just didn't like the ambiguity and lack of concrete information.

Sony's press conference style is excellent at generating speculation because they haven't denied what's possible or impossible. They tease things and allow the audience speculate to their's hearts content. The GB crew, probably from years of the classic style of being pitched things and working with facts, aren't used (or enjoy) the ambiguous hype show that Sony put on.

I enjoyed Sony's press conference and thought it was the best but I totally understand where they're coming from.

That stuff is all subject to change before launch and there's no guarantee the developer would even talk about it.

Some people like to know the people behind the games.

I now know that For Honor had a badass director. I have no interest in For Honor but I will surely remember that dude.

Except he's not talking about how hard he worked. Good job completely missing the point in your rush to try and attack an opinion that conflicts with yours.

Conflicting opinions is one thing, attenuating people's work is another.

Exactly, dude is badass and also a voice in the game apparently.

Just leave that SJW spouting fool and his drive by post alone so we can get back to figuring out if the meeting of the Jeffs will actually happen this year.

Well JV wasn't entirely in his own head. I'm sure he would have never done it normally, and I think Lang knew that. It turned into a hilarious bit and now Lang has infinite ammunition on JV. Worked out great in the end!

Agreed on all fronts.

So what are some of the highlights of the E3 commentary I should watch?

Definitley the EA WEED3 segment featuring Snoop, Jamie Foxx, Terry Crews and the rest of the "normal" BF players who showed up.

Was a tad bit aggressive on my first comment, my bad.

I just disliked their whole south park segment, Alex and Austin were clearly upset about the south park game and I guess the series in general, the rest of the crew seemed to not be able to have their opinions on it otherwise it'll offend the dude, the whole thing felt awkward. I also noticed that Austin went off on twitter about South Park, seemed offended by the racist satire of the coon.

Sony felt like it was cut short. Almost as if some of their reveals and partners decided to pull out after the Orlando attack and reveal at a later date. It just ended, there wasn't really any big crescendo, and they ended on that boring ass zombie game with good animation. I don't mind if that's what happened, good on them for delaying touchy stuff for a later time if it did. But that's what I walked away thining.

If something like that didn't happen, the show just was real bad imo. GoW, Horizon, and Spider-Man look cool at least.

EA's conference ending (starting at the BF1 part and go to the end of the stream) for sure. Like you just have to.

Listening to them during the Horizon demo was pretty great too, oh, and the Ubisoft drug game... Actually the Ubisoft conference overall was great.

Not liking something doesn't automatically mean you're offended by it.

For me, The Coon is basement level satire and would definitely make me uncomfortable in a group of co-workers.

Austin sat quietly through a whole segment where the main joke is the repetition of a racist slur, and a bunch of South Park fans like yourself were completely livid that someone wasn't enthusiastic about their show. Yet somehow Austin is the sensitive one.

Let that sink in for a bit, seriously.
