Giant Bomb @ E3 2016 | WEED3

Austin sat quietly through a whole segment where the main joke is the repetition of a racist slur, and a bunch of South Park fans like yourself were completely livid that someone wasn't enthusiastic about their show. Yet somehow Austin is the sensitive one.

Let that sink in for a bit, seriously.

no, but it's satire, you see

Not liking something doesn't automatically mean you're offended by it.

Especially when Austin's twitter comments he's referring to specifically pointed out that he wasn't offended by it, he just thinks it's a lazy joke.

I enjoy South Park (haven't seen any of the latest seasons), and I thought that stage presentation was awkward as fuck too. Went on way too long, and the Kanye "joke" was.... ughhh. Still looking forward to the game though.

Err, you're obviously jaded and cynical

As a South Park fan from the very first short, I have always thought that the Coon was a pretty bad joke and it sure played out that way yesterday. Austin and crew were fine. I have to disagree with Alex's opinion of PC principal though, as I've said before it's pretty funny, it's not really that offensive (despite it being co-opted by Reddit types) and the character actually turns out to be pretty cool.

Tell me about it.

The direct style approach is fine but it's the ambiguity that they're against. Brad was wondering why the Horizon: Zero Dawn demonstration was showing subtitles and he said something along the lines of "Oh, so they must be including it if they're not going to have people come in do a spiel." If the rest of the trailers and announcements had similar framing, I'm sure GB wouldn't be opposed to it. They just didn't like the ambiguity and lack of concrete information.

Sony's press conference style is excellent at generating speculation because they haven't denied what's possible or impossible. They tease things and allow the audience speculate to their's hearts content. The GB crew, probably from years of the classic style of being pitched things and working with facts, aren't used (or enjoy) the ambiguous hype show that Sony put on.

I enjoyed Sony's press conference and thought it was the best but I totally understand where they're coming from.

I'm with you on thinking Sony nailed it again this year but i understand the crew less given how weak the other conferences were. Microsoft did a great job and part of Ubisoft conference was good but aside from that everyone else was pretty low key to very disappointing. EA to me had the weakest conference in awhile because all they did was talk and had no hard gameplay to show on anything really. It was simply a waste of time aside from the sports stuff.

On a side note mission statements and talking about the future is great but not needed all the time. Now i believe is not the time given how a lot of promises have already been made, changed, and are still in progress when it comes to this gen. So talk is a bit hollow right now unless you show some proof to back it up. This conference pairs well with last year conference. Last year Sony made a lot of good will showing many fantasy projects and things people thought would never happen. But being realistic most of those things are years away and may change closer to release. It was a great rally cry for gamers but this year focused more on things that are coming out pretty soon with most showing gameplay.

I didn't see the South Park Ubisoft conference segment. Did the actually hang their hat on the joke of "The Coon" or did they just say his name a lot. "The Coon" thing is weird because the really don't point a light at it during the superhero episodes to the point where my brain has forgotten to make the connection between "Cartman's superhero name" and "awful racial slur."

The latter but if you have zero context for it, hearing "The Coon" tossed out nonchalantly the first few times is pretty jarring.

no they didn't, they spoke about it as of everyone was a fan of the show but obviously if you aren't it can sound a bit off.

Also the mom joke bit and the douchebag / origin story jokes that mirror a few of the jokes in the first game just kind of fell flat.

The only jokes that really got a chuckle out of me were "don't steal his origin story" and the joke about putting the black superhero movie in phase 3.

So, SP humor just isn't for me most of the time, but the game had its moments. Hoping for less of the same old stuff with this one though.

I'm still nerding out about that Resident EVII.. logo. So good.

I like that the Japanese fans didn't get left out of a good logo either.

I thought that's what the demo is for but i guess it doesn't tell you the plot i guess?

I don't even really mean the plot but just what it's aiming for. It's 7 still so is it attached to the series? Is it something new and starting fresh? It felt more like Silent Hill.

I just wanted more of that from the conference. I'll check out the demo later, but still that probably doesn't do much.

What, now?
I'm saying the show felt rushed and didn't feel complete. There was a rumor floating around from enterthedragonpunch that was talking about red dead being at Sony, and I can see rockstar backing out during a tragic period to avoid any more controversial press. I'm not saying that's what happened, but the show didn't feel super short and disjointed to you?

I need to reiterate, I'm not blaming a huge tragedy for disappointing me. Rather speculating that the show felt like it was missing something and wondering if some companies thought it was a good idea to wait little bit instead. Which is totally understandable. But again, all of this is very thin speculation based on nothing. So it's probably nothing.

The show was not all that great regardless of what it was or wasn't. I agree with Dan

Wait is it called Resident Evil 7: Biohazard here and Biohazard 7: Resident Evil in japan?

cause thats amazing if true

Yeah, I'm hoping this is just setting the stage for them to later on just go with one title in both markets or separate them as two different franchises.

It seems smart. Resident Evil moves on as their Silent Hill type franchise and Biohazard as their zombie stuff.

+South Park being this year
+Detroit looking amazingly cliche
+Forza Horizon 3 and Forza Horizon 3 being this year
+Steep
+Spider-Man being made as a serious game rather than a farmed out license deal
+South Park being this year
+For Honor showcase(even though I feel like I'm ready for that game to be out)
+Dead Rising 4 having the mall in it

Thought it was a good couple of showcases. I still don't know about Watch Dogs 2. Nintendo stuff typically doesn't appeal to me for the most part.

I went away from the thing thinking about Steep and Horizon 3 a lot though. And I have a feeling Spider-Man is going to blow my mind when I see more of it

Hah, that's awesome. Still wanna know what this game is all about though, is it a completely new reboot type thing or is still fitting into the already established world of Resident Evil?

The more I think about it the more bummed I am about the lack of Back Compat announcement, especially Red Dead... I'm on vacation this week and I would have totally gone for a week of Red Dead Redemption.

And what annoys me even more is that I actually have RDR installed on my XB1 and I played it on the Xbox One and it was working just fine but MS won't let me launch it! arghh

Also them doing the gay fish bit again and really driving it into the ground. "We did this funny joke once please remember!"

On any given day you have to be thoughtful with gay jokes, but even a PR intern could tell them now is really not the right time.

The whole South Park showing could have been so much better, especially given how much good will they earned with the first game.

From what Capcom said last night, it is set after 6 and in that world. But that's it.

I kind of hope we don't hear much more before then.

oh jesus i hadn't even thought about that

I have a feeling they didn't realize that either though? The gag was always about how saying "fish sticks" sounds like "fish dicks" so idk.

The show was short because they cut out all the dull talk-talk-talk segments and embarassing VR stagedemos. What I think you might be able to fault them for is having no indie showcase, and not having any significant PSN announcements, especially as Xbox looks to be moving forward with some important social features.

If you took out the tedious developer/executive talks from previous years' shows it would have been just as short.

The biggest disappointment so far for me has been the lack of information on Mass Effect.

Agree... The fact that it's the last E3 before release and they still haven't shown one second of gameplay? Come on

Also the fact that they said in the past that they would use Dragon Age: Inquisiation as a template for all their future games makes me REALLY worried about Mass Effect.

Hard to believe it was just two years ago that they spent about 15 minutes of the conference talking about that Powers show.
