Giant Bomb @ E3 2016 | WEED3

So far the areas look neat and the new mechanics look great, but I can tell they don't want to give any story hints away so it all kind of looks like the stuff you do in between dungeons and such which may turn people off the game.

But it still looks pretty good.

seems like they edited the E3 version a lot not to give away much
I am pleased with this build so can't wait for NX

Game of the Show: Zeruda

Yes. Zelda because Horizon was game of the show last year.

Time elements aren't back so fuck it. Dead Rising without its most unique aspect is boring.

The limited time was annoying, you always felt rushed and like you couldn't just enjoy the game and do what you want.

It's ok to have some time sensitive missions once you start them and have a sense of needing to get it done, but it's another to make the entire game limited and have a constant timer counting down that makes you feel rushed the entire game.

Zelda demo for the gamespot show was a little too on message/on brand. The Dead Rising guys were super open, Tekken guy was decently open, Civ 6 guy same and had some good anecdotes, but the Zelda guy said 5-6 times "this is all we're showing right now' and it sucked.

sounds like Nintendo

Didn't see it but that's kinda of weird because the demo is huge and seems to show quite a lot about the game.

time for old man jaded Rhaknar to come out, I dont see why people are freaking out over that Zelda gif. Its not like a precision shot, game seems to slow down to almost free frame to allow him to aim, is it the fact he used a leaf to float up there? So he used a boss mechanic like any other zelda game? I feel like im missing whats amazing about it. Its a cool gif dont get me wrong, and I actually think the game looks better than alot of people out there calling it a walking simulator, I just dont get the hub hub over this particular scene

did he just use flame arrows to make a fire to make an updraft so he could paraglide and fly up to shoot a robot spider in the face

Also I think that is just a boss randomly encountered in the world and not a "gimmick" like in other Zelda games.

Its the way the basic systems interact to make that moment possible

It's an emergent thing. Flames from explosions or flane arrows gave him an opportunity launch off and get a good vantage point to aim at and kill an enemy (the Guardians aren't regular bosses, it seems like you just find them in the world).

I think the fire thing was impressive because it did not seem to be "the way" you beat that boss. It was a way, that would have worked anywhere else, but was a neat little example of the way the systems interacted.

Generally I feel like people are going a bit OTT with their reactions to Zelda. Most of the new features in it were in other open-world games like 10 years ago, but they just seem fresh because Zelda was so archaic before now.

Still looks like a well-made game though, if not mind-blowing from what I've seen so far.

The time mechanics are the only thing keeping dead rising from being dynasty warriors tier repetitive and boring to me.

I love the idea of events happening concurrently and having to manage your time in those games.i t gives the world and your actions importance.

Then I think the character shouldn't be Link or give people a choice of Link or Zelda. Maybe give some base character creation and a choice of gender.

It's not like I think Link is sacred but I the character has been around for a very long time and the idea of changing the gender of an established character has just never connected with me. Either you want the main character to be Link or not and if not then there are plenty of ways that can be done.
Yes, given the chronology of the series and the fact that's not the same Link each time, it would work. It just feels like people want to be able to say 'You now play as a female character in one of the longest running and most populate series ever!' in a way that doesn't feel like progress.

Creating a game around the idea of playing as Zelda would be much more welcome to me.

You have said it better then I have when I have tried to explain how I feel about that topic. Being completely fine with a new female main character or using an exiting one for the main character but not wanting/don't think that they should just switch/give the option to switch the gender of Link.

Probably have to agree to disagree.

That is also fine. Not everyone has to agree and I can see how people think that a gender option or female Link would "work", even if I disagree/don't want that.

The only thing more eyeroll-inducing than over-the-top reactions to cool video game things is the hot take counter-push of analyzing why people react the way they do with the assertion that the analyzer is too cool for that.

But you're not limited the entire game.

You are limited for that life.

The game was, once, originally designed around the idea that you would die, come back more powerful, and get through everything a lot faster. That might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's what made the game unique, and I enjoyed it.

Now it's just a bog-standard zombie game with omg wacky.

The good part about moving slowly is that you can cherry pick the best ideas from everyone else and combine them in a great, super-polished way.

The whole "it's been in games for years already!" argument is weird. Yes these mechanics have existed before but here they are being done in interesting ways, or being used well. Is that not something worth praising if it looks interesting? And again, this is showing a very, very different Zelda from anything that has ever existed before. That in itself is exciting.

Persons 5 looks so good in that 12 minute video.

Scalebound looked very rough. Hopefully it gets all the time it needs... maybe all the way to Holiday 2017.

Scalebound looks terrible. Even Platinums worst games have combat mechanics deeper than what this seems to have. I hope I'm wrong, but both gameplay demos we've seen now both look incredibly basic.

Danny just had a really good chat with Todd Howard.

He referenced Naked & Gunless!

Also, I didn't realise Fallout 4 was fully playable in VR, I thought it was one of those experience things. That's really cool.
