It's $40 and standalone so 2/3 of a full game.

Yeah it serves no purpose other than a thinly veiled attempt at trying to take some of the pressure off Sony. It doesn't. If "a Microsoft spokesperson" said no cross-play 5 years ago he was wrong then. Sony is wrong now. Progress isn't beholden to being responsible for all staff comments from the past decade.
