Giant Bomb @ E3 2017: <>

Honestly who saw Rabbids x Mario game being the game of show coming?

Unless it plays crazy-good, I can't see that happening. The premise is audacious, but that alone really won't propell it to huge accolades.

I'm honestly having a hard time imagining what will get Game of Show though. Nothing in any of the major press conferences seemed like a big contender.

Which were already announced

It was pretty unrealistic to expect Sony to keep up the volume of announcements they have been throwing out there given they have half a dozen big exclusives out there that they need to see through. They intentionally stacked up up some years in advance.

Gameplay demos of their big three over the next 18 months seemed appropriate to me!

It's sad that Nintendo could possibly have the best "conference" even if they go conservative. An impressive showing of Mario and Xenoblade plus 1 surprise would do it for me

E3 should have a level of pomp that Sony really lacked this year. There was no surprise.

Ubisoft had the best overall presentation to me this year. A lot of different stuff I want to play and ending on an amazing moment.

Was listening to the 1099 podcast earlier today from about a week ago and Jeff kinda predicted what he echoed at the end of tonight's stream, that this was a very "mid-gen" type series of conferences.

Yup.

I think we were all sort of spoiled early on this gen with Sony's first couple conferences cuz they were in firing-everything mode. Now we're three or four years in and everything feels like it's simmered down somewhat. Not exactly a lull, but just a tonal change.

Wolfenstein had a LOT of hype behind it for the trailer, so if there is a "Trailer of the show" that'd be it.

Yeah that's why I'm so cautious.

I'm sure it'll be a packed 30 minutes but that's so short.

And I don't know what they could do to blow me away.

A new F-Zero

To be fair, as someone who owns a Switch, I can't think of any other game beside Xenoblade and Marop X Rabbids that would make me very excited. I don't even like F-Zereo and Metroid games....

:/

can't wait until the real e3 starts

where everyone shits on these conferences for 3+ hours on a couch while drinking

Don't know if I can listen to the GB guys talking shit about production after their stream went south multiple times. They can't help if the building they are in has an internet problem, but the bottom line is the experience tonight was very poor.

Hmm weirdly enough, I think the press conferences as a whole convinced me to get a PS4 Pro instead of an Xbox One X. Wasn't viewing it as something I wanted to buy before E3.

The Sony presser made me appreciate the Microsoft one in a whole new way. Atleast they took the time to arrange a show. They had people with controllers, unveiled a car, had people coming and going...

Beyond the initial music number, Sony pressed play on a video playlist.

Days Gone
God of War
Spiderman
Shadow of the Colossus thing
Monster Hunter thing
Horizon DLC
All the VR stuff
Detroit

God of War was "Early 2018" which is close enough of a commitment to me. What games have completely non-specific dates (either just a year or nothing at all)?

It's only $100 more than the Pro and $200 more than Switch, lol. The fuckin PSVR is $500 too. People are treating the price like it's $800 or something. This isn't even including the fact that many people will be trading/selling old consoles.

The difference between PSVR and the new XBOX is that PSVR is a VR and not a mainline console. If your new console that you want people to buy cost 500 dollars, you will not get a lot of people buying that console. They were pushing that as the new thing from Microsoft. It's the most expensive console out right now out of the three companies right by 100 to 200 hundred dollars depending on the company right now.
