Giant Bomb @ E3 2017: <>

That's Abby.

Also that sure as hell doesn't look like Jason to me.

I thought Jeff was Ryan Davis tbh.

I appreciate that Sony has tried to keep the boring stage talks and demos to a minimum, but titles like Days Gone and Spiderman really needed a more expansive and guided playthrough with commentary. These incredibly scripted sequences really don't give you a good idea of what moment-to-moment gameplay will be like, or the overall design goals of the game.

Yeah. Days gone is a complete mystery. Like what is it? Will there be crafting? Base building? Some sort of village system? Like what the hell am I watching.

Tbf the GOW team has always been using sorcery

GOW 3 looked pretty damn good at the time and it was on a system kinda notorious about been difficult to get good stuff out of it.

It still looks nuts.

Sony should've skipped the pre-show and put all those games in the main conference. Undertale, Everybody's Golf, and Gran Turismo deserved more of a spotlight than freaking Detroit.

It's gonna be fun seeing John drake have to stay on message with how much of a dud that conference was

I doubt they're going to really rake him over the coals for it. All the guys have really specific tastes, but are self-aware enough to realize that most of these trailers/demos play well to a larger audience.

I think this is kind of why even that new God of War isn't doing it for me on the surface, but the more I think about it the more I feel like yeah I'd probably be down to check this game out.

Trying to be reflective of things, like maybe I don't feel like the games are uninteresting but they sure don't make them feel interesting for precisely the bolded.

I also don't think it's really that much of a dud for the kind of people they are trying to appeal to and not our specific bubble.

Detroit is conceptually interesting but I really don't think the demo was very effective. Could have used a guided developer type thing.

Honestly this gen DICE easily hangs with Sony first party studios.

Last gen God of War was unbelievable.

Battlefront 2 can hang with God of War 4

I don't know, going by how to the point Jeff was with Phil spencer around the MCC being busted that one year I wouldn't be surprised if he voiced some criticism.

But given that drake's more of a PR mouthpiece and a friend it's probably not something he'd do

Are they going to do a talk show like when John Vignocchi comes down and talks about his autocorrect issues and tweets Dave Lang's number?

It's coming...right? With Nintendo only doing 30mins, not much else to look forward to for e3 otherwise.

How did they even do them before...I remember they had a show for each day of e3....did they teleport from e3 to the giant bomb set each day?

its starting tomorrow and they do them at night after the show floor is closed for that day.

They have a set which consists of equipment from their office that they sent down to LA.

Finally people like JV, Dave Lang, etc are usually together on the final day.

I really liked the Sony conferences at the start of this gen when you had Cerny, Shu, Adam Boyes, Jack Tretton + other execs on the stage. Plus that whole indie showcase where they lit up the stage with a whole bunch of indie developers. Then when Tretton destroyed Microsoft with the whole used games thing. Those were nice times and we got to see more of the people at Sony than just Shawn Layden.

They do them when the show floor actually opens. Tuesday, Wednesday, thursday

God of War doesn't really need a guided demo or developer commentary because it's God of War. You pretty much know what it's going to be......a mostly linear beat-em-up against the gods. We're really only left to guess what Spider Man and Days Gone are going to be.

Like seriously, monster hunter PS4 would win a conference for many people.
Yeah the 1-2 punch of SotC remake and MH World was big. I thought it was the start of one of those Sony conferences where they just constantly announce niche games with hardcore audiences. But then it kinda died back down after that. I could totally see someone giving Sony the W for those two

Shawn Layden is good too, I honestly think he should talk more.

He did well 2 E3's ago when he brought out TLG.

You are right in that Drake isn't Spencer, but also a subjectively disappointing press conference is not "shipping broken games". Most of the crew seemed to think it was fine. I doubt they even give these things much thought once they end the way some die hards seem to. The GB crew doesn't strike me as the type to sit around ranking press conferences like some people are.

Shipping a game with non-functional modes is a little different than "Ehhhh, I didn't find these trailers too exciting." I certainly hope they ask him to talk a little more about what Spider Man and Days Gone are really like. Gviven that it's Drake though, they probably won't talk about Sony games at all and just spend their time clowning around with him. Which is probably just as good.

I gave up on the Giant Bomb stream. Technical issues made it a disaster, but far worse was their "we're too cool for all this snark". It's not amusing, it's annoying.

Completely agreed. And before the defenders start in on me no I don't want them to be blindly positive about everything either.

I remember during the last console reveals all the praise Sony got for 'focusing on games'

Maybe they learned that lesson TOO well. Great, lots of games but if the conference is just a video file, then put it online and find a more interesting way to get some new info out.

I thought last year was bad as well (besides GoW) but most people seem to think it was the greatest thing ever. At this point I think Sony cares more about their PSX conference than E3. Their last PSX conference was very good

For a second when they showed studio Japan and bluepoint logos I thought it would be Demons Souls

Another thing about the Spider-man game was that it felt a bit slow. Hopefully the combat is a bit faster in the full game, and especially the swinging - I wonder if they're going for an upgrade system like Spider-man 2 where you would get faster with upgrades.

Wait, RDR 2 was a complete no show. I'm supposed to believe that game's coming next Spring and we've never seen it? And it missed E3? When are they gonna show that game off?

Rockstar stopped coming to E3 years ago. They operate on their own schedule
because they can

They apparently got it from the fans (and i wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of GAF people actually dig it) so they are going with it.

Good thing you're not in an E3 thread.

I used to be all for it but eventually it wore on me and that reaction post for that first scribblenauts game was what broke the camels back (that game was fucking TERRIBLE and controlled like shit.)

R* are bigger than E3, they'll drop their own blowout video out of the blue likely sometime in the late summer/fall

BTW, Luigi is seriously my favorite Mario character. Not just BC I was the 2nd oldest (of seven), and therefore often played as Luigi my between my older brother, and I.

Not just BC Mama Luigi meme from the Super Mario World cartoon, which is great.

Also BC other than Pikmin 3, Luigi U is seriously my favorite Wii U game of all-time. I love the idea of quick Mario/Luigi courses. And personally, for all the complaints about Luigi U's controls, I had no problems. Yes, Luigi sucks in the original Mario 2, but in Luigi U? He's great. A bit more slip, yes, but personally, I quickly adapted, and personally, I I LOVE his ability to be slightly faster, and higher jumps. I was hitting that flagpole almost every time.

They were pretty positive on ubisoft.

I never never ever thought I would find myself saying it, but Ubi and Bethesda probably had the best conferences of all. It was especially smart of Ubi to bookend their show with the Mario x Rabbids at the beginning, and BG&E2 at the end. Plus they kept the Assassin's Creed stuff to an absolute minimum, making Microsoft waste time at their conference on "Yeah, here's another Assassin's Creed game that pretty much looks like all the rest of them."

Their PSX conference had a lot of energy and that was a few months ago. Either stuff isn't ready to show or they're waiting for PSX to show newer stuff. The stage presence being nonexistent seems to me like they just don't care about E3
