Giant Bomb @ E3 2017: <>

I never never ever thought I would find myself saying it, but Ubi and Bethesda probably had the best conferences of all. It was especially smart of Ubi to bookend their show with the Mario x Rabbids at the beginning, and BG&E2 at the end. Plus they kept the Assassin's Creed stuff to an absolute minimum, making Microsoft waste time at their conference on "Yeah, here's another Assassin's Creed game that pretty much looks like all the rest of them."

I wasn't that big of a fan of the beth conf mostly because I didn't really care much for the games they've shown. Wolfy 2 is a maybe for me.

It still looks nuts.

Still need to beat that game.

I should have a PS3 copy somewhere in the house

Sweet, thanks!

While the last day is pretty good definitely watch the other days as i feel Interviewer Jeff is one of the best aspects of Jeff.

Shipping a game with non-functional modes is a little different than "Ehhhh, I didn't find these trailers too exciting." I certainly hope they ask him to talk a little more about what Spider Man and Days Gone are really like. Gviven that it's Drake though, they probably won't talk about Sony games at all and just spend their time clowning around with him. Which is probably just as good.

Totally, kind of apples and oranges but yeah it would be nice to get more direct information on those. Additionally, although I'm not sure he could speak to it, I'm kind of curious why there was such a de-emphasis on showing indies this year considering their track record showcasing smaller titles.

This E3's highlights for me were Microsoft's sizzle reel of indie games, Sea of Thieves, Wolfenstein and Evil within 2. Bethesda >>Microsoft > Ubisoft >>Sony.

There was something off about the way Sony showed their games this year, most trailers were too long, lacked someone explaing the systems, it all made for a really dull press conference. They just hit the play button and that was that

Man, PSVR is having a great E3. Some of it is old Vive/Oculus stuff, but it's looking really strong. Some of Jeff's faves coming over.

Finally a ray of light on an otherwise meh E3.

Bethesda rates highly just because it was so short and to-the-point. No developers yammering about their goals and aspirations, no tedious tributes to what a great publisher they are.

And the fact that everything they detailed was shipping this year. I love that there's a timeframe for everything, instead of how it was for Sony and Microsoft and Ubi where a lot of the stuff might have easily been a year out.

They had no huge reveals (unless you really loved Evil Within), but they didn't waste my time or theirs.

Sony has kinda given up on indies, to be honest. They dropped Edith Finch. They dropped Rime. Sony Santa Monica is no longer assisting indies with development. Zombie Taxi Company is in limbo.

It's no surprise to me that they didn't lean heavily into that this time around.

I appreciate that they're spending a good amount of time on VR, but I'm still not finding many of the games to be terribly compelling, and it's hard to not just think that even if I wind up digging Inpatient or Moss or something that I'll just wind up frustrated by the poor tracking all over again. I think I'm going to sell my PSVR and revisit the second gen headsets a year or two down the line.

The Last Of Us 2, Crash, MvC, Uncharted standalone, Wipeout, Knack 2, Parappa were all announced I think.

I guess it's the Mandela Effect, but I vividly remember seeing TLOU2 revealed at E3 last year. Even though I know you're right. Like, I remember being in the audience in the live theater broadcast and hearing people cheer as Ellie came onscreen.

So weird. I think what fucked me up was that they did a double-showing of Days Gone at E3 2016, so somehow I thought the very-much-similar TLOU2 was the show closer at last E3.

SSM should be its own studio tho and not a support structure for indie titles. Less indies sucks and I'm glad Sony has done a lot to support indie games, but that's no reason to dedicate a portion of one of your internal studios to just doing dev work and support for 3rd party devs.

Indie games are for the December conference. I think that's damn cool.

Honestly, I cannot get excited for something like VR. As much as I love Galaxy 2, and I really do, as it was/is my favorite game of all damn time, I also hate it features waggle controls.

Honestly, while I appreciate in a sense to "shake the norm," whether it is the Wii mote, Kinect, Move, or VR, personally, all of these "alternative control methods" have yet to impress me.

I mean at a certain point they've done their job right? I feel like they have proven to indie devs that they can put there games on PS4 easily and get their games in more hands. I would actually prefer them to not publish or make Indies exclusivity deals, cuz that isn't really indie.

Sony has done pretty alright as far as indie stuff goes yeah.

After all, Night in the Woods, a Top 3 game of 2017, seems to be PS4 console exclusive for some reason.

hmm i guess this is probably because it was a pretty lackluster e3, but i can't help but feel like I would've taken some Yakuza and Unprofessional Fridays over these press conference vids

The eagle drone from Assassin's creed is still the thing that bugs me the most out of all these conferences.

I mean ok it's UBI but...come...on

I'm with you. It even seems to make the same electronic sound the actual drone in Watch_Dogs 2 makes. Actually the sound reminds me a bit of the purple vision bluetooth in Horizon.

Brad needs to be on the Quick Look for the PS4 Shadow of Colossus.

Maybe they'll put a neon pink blinking icon around the grip meter so he can see it this time.

I was okay with Giant Bomb's E3 trouble's during the Sony Presser, as much it sucked. I rather be behind with Giant Bomb, than be live with someone else. That's how much I love that crew.

This is so weird because for the last three or so years the PS4 has been, in my mind, "the console where the indies are"

Oh well. Switch stands to gain I guess
