I don't know if you noticed this with the Wii but Nintendo likes making optional plastic accessories.
I think they have a warehouse full of plastic they need to get rid of.

See, this is the difference between Miyamoto and Sakurai.
Miyamoto probably thinks a racing wheel and scale are the greatest things ever because he thinks that they will literally transport players to a magical toy land where imagination is reality.
Sakurai thinks, "Oh, some people whine about having to hold a handheld. Okay let's give them a stand I guess." And then he goes back to throwing another 80 billion things and options into his game.
