Giant Bomb Thread 2: A thread on a popular internet message board

Do you really want to watch them shit on dark souls again?

I would reup for another year on the spot if Jeff played that live, cuz when Ryan did that it was classic. This I promise.

The more I play Sleeping Dogs the more irritated I am that the review got pawned off onto Alex. I have nothing against Alex at all, but having the game go to him means the chances of the rest of the crew playing it through and discussing it at length are pretty low. Especially with Borderlands 2 coming soon, which is going to basically kick off the 'season' of major releases through February or March of next year. The game's getting great word of mouth and is apparently selling out at retail, it would be nice if there'd be some good discussion about it on the Bombcast.

Right now Sleeping Dogs is my GOTY, without question. And it's going to take a lot to knock it off the top of the list.

I like to think Alex is kinda there defacto reviews guy now since he doesn't do much writing of articles, star in many videos or do many podcasts. He has the time, I guess.

That's...interesting as all their Double Fine reviews are on or below industry average (except Costume Quest which is slightly higher) with Brutal Legend's review 'famously' being the lowest on Metacritic.

Well to be fair to Ryan who reviewed BL it got 3/5 which "translates" to 60 because Metacritic is all sorts of flawed. 3/5 is a decent game which imo describes the game well enough.

But seriously guys, no need to bring in that old review integrity argument. A review is as good and reliable as the person doing it. The GB guys put out enough of their personalities for you to decide who and when to listen.

Hooray, Patrick's back!

Oh wow, I totally forgot about CS: GO. I'll be looking forward to that content, if only to see what it is now.

SO MUCH JURASSIC PARK
I can't wait to see that video. It's times like these that make me so happy to have Patrick in the office. He has such great taste in movies/tv.

The price of nuance in gameplay and the value and joy in learning how to play, then excel is bumbling around like a doofus for X amount of time. They're doing it before god and country live to a bunch of stream monsters with no comprehension of respect. Kinda illuminates the Riposte quote and my response above, huh?

You act like the GB guys are targeted or something. You realize that those streams are full of fanboys who will eat up everything they do? They're surrounded by a chameleon like community of users that will change their opinions quickly on their favorite game based on Jeff saying he doesn't like it.

Can someone tell me what game Ryan's ringtone is from? I can picture it in my head but the name of the game just isn't coming to mind!

Not a fan of the Olympiad. Ryan and Brad seem like the most boring combination (see BR Deadly Premonition Endurance Run). They both seem to lack enthusiasm and charisma, it needs a Jeff or Vinny, even Patrick.

Also I'm in a bad mood this week, so don't take my complaints too seriously.

Oh, and they never reviewed Supergiant's Bastion.

But don't let pesky facts get in the way of your tinfoil hat.

you can't compare their scale to metacritic. 4/5 means a good game and iron brigade is not such a thing.

and they were gushing like crazy over bastion even if they didnt review it...

I do find Jeff's theory of 'we have a qlex, that's good enough' to be very annoying. Especially when their video content has been hit or miss lately.

Bastion is pretty damn awesome though.

People like different things. Go figure.

They do not review those games because they have a close relation to the makers and already cover it heavily.
Also wat.

But they're the only ones that seemingly gave a shit about the Olympics. They just need to talk more while Ryan struggles with controls.

From the Bummer Morning article:

PopCap has also confirmed layoff reports in a lengthy, surprisingly classy post from co-founder John Vechey.
Emphasis mine.

Do they have some kind of history with this guy? I'm not sure what they are trying to say with that, seems dickish.

And rightfully so, and weren't alone.

It was my favorite game of last year by a large margin, and was highly rated basically everywhere.

You act like they gave some piece of shit like the new Duke Nukem a 5 star review and GOTY.

Yup. Just look at IGN and their close ties to some developers and the grossly inflated scores they give out, i.e. Too Human.

Alex might be in the GOTY deliberations podcast this year since he reviewed so many games (suggests a question on Jeff's formspring). In other news, GOTY deliberations will suck and be worse than last year's.

Ok, cancelled my subscription (wasn't really using it, never have time for the multiple-hour long videos) and I have 4 more days to watch everything premium I can. Suggestions!

Most of the best stuff is pretty long, so keep that in mind.

Random PC Games: Phantasmagoria (easily the first choice), Ripper, Wing Commander 3, Outcast, Police Quest: SWAT, Crusader: No Remorse and maybe Daggerfall part 1.

Load Our Last Saves: Freedom Fighters, Brute Force, Psi Ops

All the Talk Radio shows, including Drew Returns from North Korea

All three parts of the Lantern Run, to see friendships deteriorate before your eyes

Breaking Brad: Doom II Part 1

Flight Club: P51 Mustang Beta

Stuff like the Holiday Nostalgiafest and Members-only SNES party are entertaining, but very long.

Jar Time videos are okay, but not really necessary viewing.

Honestly, I'd just save as much stuff to a hard drive as you can and take some time with it. There's a lot of quality content subscriber content that's been made in the past year, and 4 days might not be enough time to hit everything on the list. Lately there's been a pretty huge dropoff, though. Dwarf Fortress didn't really interest me and the Olympiad is actively boring, as far as I'm concerned.

They need to bring a new challenger to battle it out and take down Deliberation-Time Brad Shoemaker once and for all.

I don't actually subscribe yet (not much disposable income and Netflix supersedes gaming content) but what are some of the best TNT's that I can find elsewhere? I watched the WWE All Stars one and it was tremendous.
