Giant Bomb Thread 2: A thread on a popular internet message board

Whatever gets me more Rorie and Ryan holding hands is fine with me. If that magic never happens again my tiny heart will break in two.

This interview gives me confidence that this is something CBSi truly needed and they won't simply be merging or disbanding the companies in a year or so. Davison recognizes the old, detached IGN and Gamespot news model of screenshots and reviews is a dying approach and something with a more personal feel is what viewers/readers want. Not to say that there isn't a place for that anymore, but there's certainly an expectation of familiarity and a, somewhat, ad lib presentation of information.

It's weird but, in the other acquisition thread, someone nailed the interests of the community right in the head: they don't want journalists; they want friends. Games journalism has evolved and, in a medium where there isn't any real investigating, it's a major way to put weight and credibility into their opinions.

ugh it's not lunchtime yet

It always does. The worst part of PAX panels are when awkward nerds try to be funny or ask shit questions.

Although the Q&A at PAX Prime did inadvertently lead to the GB crew being shocked nobody asked about an Endurance Run, and having to announce it at the end instead of spontaneously, like they wanted.

That was kind of funny.

So now that we've all had a night's sleep for this to sink in, how y'all holding up? Decimated? Enthused? Optimistic? I'm feeling rather audacious myself, with a smidge of voracity.

Giant Bomb is going to be bigger and better than ever before

I think pretty much everything that we've come to expect day-to-day will be exactly the same as it was except the guys will be in a different building, which already occurred once in the past. Quick looks will be quick looks, reviews will be reviews, the crew will be the same, the news on the front page will continue to be written by Patrick and Alex, the Bombcast will be awesome and come out on Tuesdays...

It's the rarer, ancillary content that may change, and probably for the better, stuff like mailbags and big event coverage.

It just makes me sad that there is no place in the world for a successful lean, personality-driven website.

We're doomed to major corporate behemoths like ign or Gamespot, and tabloid blogs like Kotaku.

I'm optimistic.
The fact that GB is keeping the group together was the most important thing for me. I'm hoping this really opens up the doors for doing more stuff in the future. I just hope they're happy, as corny as that sounds. If they're enjoying work still, I'll be enjoying the content they put out.

Neutral, but annoyed at the realization that it'll probably be mid-April before we start getting regular content again.

Expecting light weeks a la the past two until then.

And I'm curious, because based on yesterday's thing with Jeff and John Davison, the whole thing finally came together on Tuesday really quickly. But they had moved out of the old office last week.

If the deal had dragged on for longer, what would GB have done? How would they have tap-danced around everything?

I welcome this unknown future with bright optimism. If things goes sideways, a new site will be born and I'll probably flutter over to that.

I used to enjoy 1UP's content and I followed the crew to RebelFM, Area 5 and Garnett's Weekend Confirmed. Then I replaced all of that with GiantBomb.

I'm past my initial despair, and actually pretty excited for the new road they are taking.

One thing i'm incredibly happy about is the fact that they actually managed to get the complete crew on-board. Even losing Dave or Drew would be disastrous. With such a personality and friendship-driven site, you can't afford to "split up the band", so to speak.

The split with Tested is sad, but I think Tested.com is going to have their hands full of awesome regardless. I will keep following both sites closely.

Still, I hope the GB team actually delivers on all of their promises, but I have no reason to believe they aren't going to.

there is, but only at the expense of financial gain. giant bomb continued to grow and expand past their initial format and that required additional manpower, energy, time, and money. i guess if your endgame isn't "bigger and better" then the formula would work, GB has chosen not to.

Meh. Even IGN and GameSpot (when the GB guys were there) can produce good podcasts, which is all I really care about. I don't care to read any game articles. I could paraphrase press releases without the assistance of crappy game writers.

Its werid seeing them in fancy cubicles..

that is a HUGE area for like 10 guys.

I wonder if they are going to move the desks around and stuff.

Yeah those cubicles remind me of Office Space. Soul crushing work environment etc.

They way they had their desks lined up at the last two offices were awesome. I hope they just chuck that shit out and do it that way again. I don't want them peering over cubicles in videos - that's not what GB is meant to be like!

They mentioned some construction, so I'm sure it won't look like a regular office for very long. Although I guess Jeff will have a proper office? He mentions in an interview that it's actually right next to his old office, which must be weird.

It would mean more Brad photobombs so It wouldn't be all bad.

I have to wonder what the feeling was when they walked back in there yesterday. They said they didn't step foot in that building since 2007.

I really hope this new deal will inspire Ryan to get into better shape. I love the guy, but damn he just looks gigantic in that office video. I get concerned because these guys aren't in their invincible early-20s anymore. They are in their late-30s now and approaching an age where you become more vulnerable to heartattacks. Maybe I just care too much? I don't know. But I wish Ryan would take better care of himself.
