Giant Bomb Thread 2: A thread on a popular internet message board

It's weird, but Gamespot is definitely going to be a bigger site by association now. Giantbomb for personality based videogame content and Gamespot for basic games journalism.

I don't want to be a Gamespot member. I don't want them to have my credit card and email address or any personal info. Do I need to unsubscribe now to prevent this, or is it too late? I hate this shit.

reading the posts without being able to watch the livestream is confusing the shit out of me.

going back to gamespot? what the hell?

Seems like their great experiment to be a self sufficient site with only minimal advertising and user subscriptions didn't end as they intended.

as always, the big media companies need to come in.

Yeah this sounds like a good deal for both GB and Tested.

Shame they're getting seperated from Tested but good luck to everyone involved.

Doesn't it just see inevitable that they're just going to be folded into Gamespot, no matter how much they insist they won't. They're better than anything and anyone at Gamespot, why wouldn't CBS want the more popular, talented people on their flagship site?

I'm now convinced Jeff is fine with this and you guys are reading into things that aren't there.

I feel good about this.

You seem very positive about what is obviously the result of a financial failure in the form of Whiskey Media.

Awesome things usually don't happen from financial failures.

This makes me feel like they're going to pursue less of the "serious" side of the industry and instead focus more on making entertainment. If they're in the same building as Gamespot, they can just leave it to them to handle the more mundane side of the industry.

Is Tested/Screened going to be a pay site too?
So now we need two subs? One for GB and one for those?

Jeff is eating pancakes, look how happy he is!!!

This is true, but JD is a good bloke and it sounds like CBS have changed since he's got there.

Of course, it COULD all go wrong, but that was true when they were indie. At least now they have some proper support and finance doesn't have to be a worry; there's an equally good chance they can grow and improve from here onwards.

I'm stuck at work all night! Arrghhh!

So to confirm?

GB is going to CBS, moving to the same building as Gamespot...but aren't merging with Gamespot, yes?

Will this stream be archieved? I think I'll need to watch this when I'm home!

I don't trust that those changes are coming from them, ugh.

I feel this disgusting pit in the bottom of my stomach seeing this news. Jeff has always gone on and on about how much he prefers being a mid-sized site, just listen to Jar time, he goes against being super huge in a big company repeatedly in those.

This just feels terrible to me, and the reassurances from people after they've been bought from a big company about how little is going to change...does it ever pan out that way? Not in my experience. (*cough* BioWare)

All this laughter and cheerfulness over the deal just seems fake. Worst news I've ever heard.

Not sure. I think it might be closer to a merger? Gamespot.com is pimping this announcement out as "big news"
