I missed the beginning, can someone update me on why he was fired?

new review scores lowering the average, a new management at the same time not familiar with video game editorial, and the new management got spooked about threats to withdraw ad money, so they fired jeff since "they couldn't trust him"

This is such a great idea for both GameSpot and GiantBomb.

This not only clears up GameSpot's name and gives them more credibility, but it also lets Jeff finally air out what happened and let everyone else in on the story so they (we) can move on.

This not only patches up what happened in the past, but allows everyone to move forward with a more positive view on GameSpot.

Could agree more. It's the classic out and open interview to clear the air...

Change in review score calculation resulted in a lower average Gamespot score.
Publishers complain to execs and they confronted Jeff after ratchet and clank future issue
Jeff releases Kane and Lynch review
Exec confronts him again after publisher threatens to pull ads and eventually fire him over the issue

New management team wasn't getting along with the senior editorial staff. The editorial staff were rolling out a new review scale which had the editors giving the game a score out of ten on a half point scale as opposed to using a formula based on gameplay, sound etc.

As a result scores overall dropped ~1point. Publishers threatened to pull ads and Kane and Lynch was the final tipping point. Management side felt that they couldn't 'trust' Jeff to do his senior editorial duties or something.

Also note that this threatening to pull ad business was nothing new, just that the management team didn't know how to deal with it.

Basically, everything we thought right.

Brad on chat: "i'm happy to report i'm uploading the first around-the-office video starring vinny"

Fuck yes!

EDIT. What he said.

Kevin VanOrd has good taste, Demon's/Dark Souls were couple of his favorite games this gen.

He seems like a great guy, too. One of the consistently enjoyable people on The Hotspot since the fallout from Jeff's shit.

I don't understand why people don't like him.

Edit: AHHH videos! Can't wait.

The best part of this was the story of Vinny going into his old office to find no one got his old phone number and found over 50 voicemails back from when he quit. lmao

Top stuff.

Glad today has ended so well. Loving the prospect of GB continuing to be GB, and I'm in the minority of looking forward to some GS people popping up too.

I am excited for this.

They deserve the pay bump, more money to do bigger and crazier things, more resources to do more stuff like events etc.

Fuck the haters.

That was crazy.

First bit of Gamespot content I've watched since 2007 when this all kicked off. Hats off to that british dude. That was handled rather well.

Let the healing begin?

Actually. I'm willing to give it a shot.

At first I was kind of down on the news but all seems well. I didn't think that the GB guys would really sacrifice anything though in terms of their freedom and style.

Okay, I think I'm now officially on board with this. This seems greatly beneficial for both Giant Bomb and Gamespot. The latter being a site I pretty much forgot even existed.
It's kind of nice to Jeff and the gang returning to the Gamespot offices with some additional creative freedom.

This is the first time today I have expressed happiness about all of this.

Jeff seems genuinely excited. I'm excited.

Edit: Glad I'm not the only one sort of "getting over" this. I'll chalk it up to shock.
