Giant Bomb Thread 2: A thread on a popular internet message board

Whatever happened to the common courtesy of "if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all"?

If everybody would follow that principle it would mean that nobody would ever get criticized or judged no matter how shitty is work might be....

If the GB guys decided to created a personality based website 4 years ago they knew they would be open to criticism. They are big boys and they can speak for themselves, don't need a defense force to automatically contradict every neutral or negative comment said about them.

Funny how one of GB (Ryan) waves off a horrible rant directed to an innocent party, and now people in this thread are telling people not to say anything negative at all, what is it our 'wording'.

Yes, it is people's wording. You can criticize or be negative but don't be assholes, dicks or cunts about it. Not calling for people to be fired is a start. No way some of you would talk to them like this if you were telling it to their face in person.

GB is an entertainment product and that's how people talk about it. As long as people don't get personal (and I'll admit that happend a few times over the last pages) it's absolutely fine to discuss what you like and what not. And considering that GB is a personality-driven website it's only natural to, well, talk about their personalities or rather that part of their personalities they demonstrate on their site.

And yeah, considering how awkward it gets everytime one of the crew posts here I would almost prefer it if they would stay away.

It's okay to not like something and say it out loud, just don't be a dick about it.

I even used their own scale and not a single negative word.
Anyway as always the score is the last word, so I wont continue this argument any further.

Rating people is pretty bad though.

You're not rating them as human beings, because that doesn't make any sense and is ridiculous.

You're rating their "personalities" and how they contribute to the site. For instance, I like Brad on Tested a lot, but I don't like him very much on GB.

IMO Giant Bomb absolutely needs Ryan. He happily plays up to his role as an antagonist which just adds narrative to even the most mundane Bombcast conversations and stops them from becoming an echo chamber (which can easily happen when a small group of people work closely together). Also his immense pop culture knowledge makes him a very diverse host (look at all the Happy Hour hosting he did, completely held his own regardless of the conversation being about games, movies or comic books).

And can you really blame him for being able to relate to a guy receiving tons of internet hate over a couple of petulant tweets? These are guys who receive vitriolic abuse for just playing a game wrong, so I'm sure they know a thing or two about being on the receiving end of disproportionate internet reactions even when you're completely in the wrong.

Regardless of how Ryan acts outside of his video or podcast persona, I haven't ever gotten the feeling that he is less than an outstanding guy.

Honestly, everyone at Giant Bomb has a personality that is larger than life, which makes them so entertaining. With one exception... Patrick is an excellent news person, but compared to the rest of the group, he has no personality.

What is Brad's larger than life personality?

I totally agree, Patrick comes off really annoying on the mic both during the Quick Looks and podcast but I actually like some of the articles he has written. He needs to cut that hair though.

And a deep voice.

I love all of them <3 and while I understand that constructive criticism is important and not everything can be positive all the time, the way some of you guys are talking about people like they're not people is weird.

It turned out to be rubbish the very moment it was conceived because people seek to apply it literally. That's what happened to it.

Some times he's good some times he's not but either way he contributes the same amount.
Which hurts when he runs with a terrible bit (pizza sphere) for way too long.

Even Vinny cant break the scale.

If Jeff didn't overdo it on a single joke bit, we wouldn't have brilliant moments like the Murder Slingshot.
