They met up a long time ago. Character locations are persistent across servers so it saves them together, hence spawning together in a new server

It's rough now, but it is fun. I sunk four hours in tonight and I'll be playing ALL day tomorrow.

This isn't the best way to experience the game. You need to play it for yourself really. Running around trying to find each other doesn't show the best parts of the game.
