Giant Bomb Thread 2: A thread on a popular internet message board

I'm not aware of Giant Bomb's regular schedule before December last year - were these radio shows ever a regular thing and were they ever more than people calling in more to get heard than to actually ask questions? At least the previous one they had had a theme, the site redesign.
They had pretty regular radio shows throughout last year with Karen guesting several times (and she was always awesome. Love the nerd stories about Dave's youth :P). But it was usually only Dave and Vinny or so. No fixed topics (but often callers asked about design and technical stuff).

Gotta say I like this format, especially in this current form. Great show so far.

I think TNTs are becoming more and more pointless. They are shorter than they've ever been and it just seems like it falls to pieces really quickly.

There are so many older games with still active servers they should take advantage of and revitalise the community even just for 2 hours. The Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts was one of the better TNTs because of this.

it's just not reaching the potential. The SNES one a few weeks ago was great as it was paired with a members show before. Even the Tony Hawk one was good with them going back through some of the history of skating games. There's all kinds of stuff they can do besides shooters, mmo's, and shooters.

They specifically mentioned that they really can't do any kind of daily video series right now because it would prevent them from getting anything else done. They want a dedicated Quicklook room and some other things to make stuff like that possible.

Also Brad broke a microphone in a fit of rage, which set them back months and months. So blame Brad for the Endurance Run they were forced to cancel.

so how long until they're rolled into gamespot?

Can you elaborate on the microphone incident? First I've heard of it.

Maybe I was exaggerating a bit. There was no cancelled Endurance Run and it didn't set them back months. Brad did accidentally break a mic while standing up, not in a fit of rage.

Did they say why for this specifically? As an outsider I don't see what is preventing them. I mean saying "things" and "stuff" is extremely vague.

doing video content daily without a proper place for doing so is extremely time-consuming. i'm sure they're frequently having to modify their setup to conform to whatever it is they're filming/broadcasting.

taking time to set up a dedicated space that requires little to no re-work for various projects is beneficial in the long-term.

I understand that. I'm just wondering what the difference between these video series are, that they are unable to do it within the same space.

A while back they said they couldn't get time with the green screen to shoot I Love Mondays the way they used to be. Every time I think about the old ILMs I get a little sad inside.

really like the new way they do it though you get more silly stuff out of it
Eh. I know lot of people would agree with you , maybe most people, but personally I'd rather have one slick, well produced video than another one of them screwing around in the office. I feel like there are already enough of those.

My wife liked them too, we don't even bother watching any more.

Remember when being owned by CBS was supposed to give GiantBomb access to more resources? Haha.

Was thinking the same thing. It's been 5 months now and they're still struggling to get situated. Not been impressed since the CBSi acquisition. Jeff's Twitch streams have been more entertaining.

wonder why they cant use some of those near by empty offices as extra studios if its because they dont have the extra cameras or what have you id gladly help them out with like a kickstarter or some such to help fund extra gear they need to make awesome content

they're working on it. you can see them talking about where they're gonna remodel in one of those extended I Love Mondays videos.

Seriously. It was really surprising to hear that Vinny is still putting together equipment budgets and lists, which is what I remember them saying they were doing back in March.

I have limited (read: no) understanding of corporate structure and hierarchy and how it all works together, but it feels like kind of an arbitrary access to resources. I found it odd hearing Jeff talk about having the funding for things like flying him and a video guy out to Germany for convention coverage, yet they are still struggling to get gear.

I really don't get it.

Why spend so much money buying a fast moving publication like Giant Bomb to then drown them in corporate bullshit which slows them down and pisses off their viewer-base?

I get that CBSi is a juggernaut, but if they can't speed up their bureaucracy, how can they hope to compete against all the sites, blogs, youtubers etc?

I get sad thinking of the old ILMs cause they sucked.

This... I don't want them to return to the old ILM. Let's face it, the actual information you get out of the ILM (they stuff they want to quicklook for the week) is rarely accurate since the're always a bunch of no show.

That information was the only thing the old ILM was giving so it was pretty much useless. Now with the new ones you get the info + some random office banter and discussion about other stuff.

I just can't wrap my head around the fact that some people prefered the old one. But then again, I don't get people who want more video reviews so...who knows.

I know, something with a bit of production value. Crazy huh?
Production value doesn't automatically make something good.
Pretty much every bit of information you would get from the old style ILM is now shown in the schedule on the site. In the current style of ILM you now get to see the guys shoot the shit about what is going on instead of just Ryan's head reading out a list while looping clips of video play.
