I didn't follow the buy out very closely, was those really the two options? I was under the impression Giant Bomb did quite well for itself and wasn't in danger of going under? I thought they just sold it off because the offer was good?

Pretty sure Giant Bomb (and Comic Vine) was doing really well, but it was just that Whiskey Media as a whole wasn't fairing too good. That being what lead to selling off the different sites and to different companies.

I might be wrong, but that was my understanding.

A lot of BuzzClicks designs are great on the monitor, and kill it with the references. But don't translate to well as a big graphic for a t shirt.

I think they got hit with the reality of keeping the site going once it really started to gain popularity. They generate a lot of video content and that means high bandwidth consumption, they travel a lot, etc. Plus the office space, etc. I'd like to know how much of Whiskey Media's revenue was generated by GB. I suspect they were the breadwinner of the family and thus had to shoulder the load of some of the other sites.
