The longer Bombcasts don't surprise me. Ryan really knew how to be a host, he would know when to move on to another topic.

Jeff either doesn't know, or doesn't care to really be a "host."

Or he's actually a better host. You make it sound like a long bombcast is a bad thing lol.

I suppose it's one thing if you want the podcasters to "respect your time," but then again, you technically don't have to be listening to the whole thing.

I like long Bombcasts.

I need to watch the wrestling promotion that had a ladder as a champion.

Power Bombcast was great. I am always wary of phone in members, but Alex did a great job making sure that Dan was able to talk. Also anytime Jeff's voice goes into crazy high octaves I burst into laughter.

starcraft still exists
Sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of all that Dota 2 happening this week.

Big props to Alex. Making sure I resubscribe this September. Love the movie podcast, the power Bombcast, and scoops and the wolf. Also UPF has been on fire lately. I love Vinneys fmv game of the week.

Hey DOTA2 and SC2 people. While you guys are fighting each other, 100 million people are firing 32 quadrillion bullets at each other in CoD!

Long Bombcasts are the best Bombcasts. It means they actually have something to talk about.

I like long bombcasts too, but I don't really agree with the latter. :P
Half the time they're just longer because they go off the rails for an hour about (admittedly often funny) nonsense. Ryan definitely put a bit more emphasis on having some sort of structure.

Yeah, but Patrick actually has to listen to them now, he no longer has the luxury of being in the room as it happens.

I never really got that complaint, noone just sits there listening to a podcast for 3 hours, just put it on while you're working out or during a game.

So the last Bombcast talked about rabies and coincidentally, Radio Lab puts out an episode about a girl getting rabies and how it is essentially a death sentence. Yikes.

If you really want some perspective: every week, there are about as many people logging into League of Legends every as Xbox Live. Not a game on Xbox Live... ALL of Xbox Live, all games combined.

Really? Does LoL have its own esports component like The International?

He really doesn't, especially later on. Most of the time he's the one who starts an off topic tangent.

Yup.

They have a finals that is about the same size as Ti3 but has seasonal leauges at other times that Dota does not have. Overall LoL has about 10x the raw players of Dota, but as an esport, it's perhaps twice as popular. I think the audience composition must vary significantly between the games.

Both Starcraft and Dota seem to 'punch above their weight' in that their esports popularity is very high relative to the raw number players, when you compare to LoL and CoD.

There's probably an interesting research opportunity for someone to figure out what drives those differences in the portion of players who are interested in the game as an esport and why it varies so much.

I finally realized that the Youtube app for the PS3 had been released in europe.

God-damn that app is amazing! Takes my giantbombing to another level.

It immediately found my profile, all my favorites, synced it to my ipad so it's like a big remote, it's fucking excellent.
Quicklooks will never be the same.

It's up

Edit - Damn you firehawk! ;-p

I love the Bombcast still. It's def different, but still great.

Miss and <3 Ryan :-(

Hrm, I guess it's the power of Valve (and Giantbomb) that I know more about DOTA2's event than any League events.

As an outsider, I don't understand why there would be two distinct audiences, but given that Battlefield and CoD probably look exactly the same to someone who doesn't play FPSes, it would be naive of me to suggest that they are similar in any meaningful way.
(Like Baseball and Cricket, I suppose).

Looks like we'll get Disney Infinity and Saint's Row IV quick looks along with Spookin tomorrow :D

and Bradley May Cry and Charlie Murder.

Not complaining but if they learnt to spread the good stuff out ppl would not moan about dead periods.

OMG ITS ON THE SCHEDULE!!!!!!!

I wish the GB app would update the calender on my phone when these new postings go up. Now that would be f'n rad.

Nah, cricket is so fundamentally different to baseball I don't think anyone is going to confuse the two. They don't even use the same fields.
