Because everyone is throwing their opinion in,

I dislike being spoiled. I'm certainly not going to "cry like a spoiled child", but I'm not thrilled by the prospect. However, I do enjoy listening to in-depth discussions for games I've already completed.

I imagine spoilercasts have too much overhead to be practical - each person in the podcast needs to have played the game. Putting spoilers directly in discussions of games will irk people, and personally I wouldn't keep listening to the podcast each week. Having a separate section at the end of the podcast for spoilers would be fine from a consumption point of view, but the partitioning of segments would still be detrimental.

You know what I liked? Patrick's 999 spoiler video. Where he got a bunch of user questions and just did a little retrospective on what he'd recently played. It's a neat premium content idea, to just have the people who played the game, even if it's only a single person, to just talk about a single game specifically for an hour or so.

It'd actually be kinda cool, in a thing similar to TNT, to say, "here's a single player game that everyone should play by next week. Then we'll sit down and answer questions and have a discussion about this game with the community."

... I will end my post here before I start being a crazy person.

Sounds great to me.

If I get spoiled and it's my own fault, eh, sucks for me. I move on and deal with it.

If I get spoiled because someone is being a dick and can't see past their own worldview on how spoilers can affect someone's entertainment, then that person is a dick and fuck them.

A week to procure and beat a game is a tall task for most people I think, would be nice to get a game of the month club or something setup like that though planned a few months ahead to make it easier to get and beat games in time to be a part of the discussion.

They wouldn't even need to give short notice. Just set a spot for it on the upcoming list like they usually do with the BLLSL or E3 a month or so in advance and whoever wants to participate would need to have it done by then. It seems like something Patrick might be interested in, so hopefully he catches wind of it.

At the very least we'll still, probably, get a VLR video!
*twiddles thumbs waiting for game to arrive in mail*

EVERY TUESDAY.

it would be kind of lame if they took an extra week off work because the dates worked out in their favor

If they dont go into the office Jeff should just drag ryan into his house and record a all new episode of the arrow pointing down podcast.

I want to know what progress has been made in the energy drinks world over the last 4 years.

I hope they take the entire week off.

Firstly, they probably need the break, and also to see the insanity that this thread would devolve into to.

edit:
I would accept a 45 minute podcast of just Jeff talking to himself
Well, there are two newish encyclopedia bombasticas up... That kind of like the same thing, right?

I'd rather they take the week off, or at least not let people know they're in the office because even if they do go in, I expect zero new content this week, and I really couldn't take people complaining "WHAT ARE THEY DOING? THEY'RE IN THE OFFICE AND NOT PUTTING UP ANYTHING!" constantly.

The fuck happened with the videos on the site. They just don't work.

They work for me in Chrome.

Chrome here too, they've been on and off the last few days. I see comments elsewhere about the same thing. Honestly, throughout the years their videos have always been iffy. I should just stick to the youtube channel.

Seems like something went awry with the video player when they started the new site beta. I've had days when it's ok, but it seems to be very spotty.

I want to know if they still have any Gatorade Tiger. Or if not that, what kind of new special gatorade's there are.

The Giant Bombcast is a gaming podcast, but the games aren't really important. Jeff and Ryan lament the state of franchise pizza restaurants in Petaluma. Vinny develops an interest in ham radio and becomes a father. Brad needs a new bed. Patrick does jukebox trolling at a bar. Above all that, Jeff tunes into clandestine radio broadcasts. Make no mistake, there's talk about games—namely, the hate some of the cast has for NiGHTS into Dreams and Jak 2—but there's also talk about jumping into swimming pools full of food, Storage Wars, Antiques Roadshow, space catapults, parking, and men named Chris that drive white cars. This is the Giant Bombcast: an eclectic and unbeatable grab bag of talk that never fails to entertain. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the buzzer buzzes...

Here's the original post, but you can download Part 1 here and Part 2 here. Also: iTunes and RSS, and there are social media links on our site if you are so inclined.

I don't agree. Best to say any and all spoilers allowed up front and let those sensitive to spoilers take their own chances. Trying to catch every instance of spoilers with a warning is just setting themselves up for failure and it would definitely impact the flow of the conversation. I think an additional warning at the beginning of each podcast is reasonable but that should be enough.

I don't expect them to do it AFTER the fact. I just think that if they just said "heads up spoiler" before they said something it would be beneficial. They don't actually end up spoiling that much stuff, and there were a few cases where they did something similar and just went "Tell us the ending" and you knew you could fast forward past it.

It takes less than a second and lets a lot more people enjoy the content. Just a thought for 2013.

That was fast. Was there any time to include any GOTY stuff?

There's no GOTY stuff in there—it's difficult to include that stuff because it's so contextual to that GOTY setting. But I wrote down a few timestamps, and we might slip some of the funnier GOTY moments into the 2013 best-of.

Also, a quick heads-up: we have four more 2012 best-ofs for the coming days, including The Skeptics Guide to the Universe, Uhh Yeah Dude, Left, Right & Center, and On the Media. Also, right now I'm working on a best-of for the 1UP podcast Listen UP (Garnett Lee, John Davison, David Ellis, and a rotating 4th chair). People have also asked for EGM Live*, and we'll probably have something for that later in the year.

Yeah, that's fair. Thanks for getting it up so quick though!

You sir are the best. I have recommended your Sampler podcast to quite a few of my friends and they are in love with your work. Keep it up!

Awesome work! I totally forgot about Jeff's Pizza dilemma. I'm dying Papa Murphy's Potato Pizza :D

Legend, nice job. Doesn't matter if there's a podcast tomorrow or not now

Oh, that's right. That should was called Listen UP! Something got lost in translation when the weekly thread popped up on GAF.

Awesome!

Now I almost want to go back to work just so that I have a reason to listen to an 8 hours long podcast hahaha.
