In short, CBS made CNET change one of their CES awards and a journalist quit in protest.

I'll just quote the first person who replied but thanks to everybody for the info. I didn't realise it was an OT thing.

DVR stuff seems kinda borderline for what they cover (as in it would be an OT Bombcast discussion) so I wouldn't be suspicious if nothing came up from them about it. And for as much as they are owned by CBSi, they seem far enough removed that it's not something that would really ripple back to them. Hell I don't really ever recall them talking about CES all that much, since gaming has a very nebulous presence there.

So because of this CNET thing, can we trust the top 10's from the giant bomb guys and the top 10's that were featured on the site? My whole world is a lie!

This makes sense to me, but if that's the case they should have the courtesy (and brains) to mention such things prominently.

"Unfortunately due to a legal dispute with our parent company CBSi, we can not cover the Hopper until the matter is resolved" blahblahblah.
I 100% agree, but unfortunately legal advise often comes down at the eleventh hour (a company I used to work for once had to walk out in the middle of a negotiation due to a text that just came through from legal. Awkward).

You know how much Giant Bomb is owned by CBS? 100%. That's, like, the whole thing. They are no different than CNET in this regard.

Yeah this specific case of the DVR thing is not going to affect GB, but imagine if something similar happened with a product that's covered by GB.

You would be naive to think there is a company in the world that would not step into editorial if something had the potential to jeopardise a massive lawsuit they're involved in.

The only thing that would change is how it's handled. And CBS could have handled this a little bit better.

The caves are calling Brad to a life of true spelunking. If Brad were leaving, it would be for the caves.

Wow the GameSpy website looks like it hasn't changed design for 10 years.

(Maybe over exaggerating a bit. It does look quite old fashioned though.)
