haha, are these gamespot guys for real? I mena, if Ryan of all people can make them look that uninformed... no wonder I never visit that site.
That was my sentiment too. Good on him though for calling them up on their lazy opinions; that blonde guy looked almost catatonic by the end of the discussion.

Using Ryan's criteria, which I understand it was 5 released, exclusive, "must-have" Vita games:

Gravity Rush
LittleBigPlanet
Lumines: Electronic Symphony

And I'm done.

Sony is leaning heavily on the portability factor, while Ryan's emphasis was on games. If you take out the exclusive requirement you get really good portable versions of Rayman Origins, Mortal Kombat, BlazBlue, Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack, Sound Shapes, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Disgaea. If portability is a high priority to you, Vita isn't quite as barren.

That is totally true, but these guys have said often enough that on the go a smartphone is more than enough gaming for them. I am kind of the same which is why I no longer own any handheld. At home I just don't want to play on a handheld. Is just seems stupid.

Mutant blobs was first on vita - technically the pc version is a port. And no, of course it's not doing well I'm just saying he isn't giving it any breaks, it has a number of great games, just Sony does shit all to try and show it.

Also I don't get the port argument, the Xbox and ps3 were full of ports and sub par games but no one complained then. I think people just like to hate on the vita just like they did with the 3ds. The difference is that Nintendo can deal with it and fight back, I'm not sure Sony can.

Ports are a problem for Vita because they're mostly console ports. They're inherently inferior on a portable system. Besides, on portable systems, people are looking for games that are uniquely suited to them. This is why Nintendo is so successful with its portables.

That's a fair point :) Nintendo will always have a massive advantage in the portable market thanks to their first party titles and Sony can't really combat that. I think the common argument of people don't want console experiences on the go us the issue here. For me and no doubt at least a few others, that is what we want, but we are a niche. You can't make a profit off of a niche console :/

I think Sony has some damn fine first party developers, they just don't work on the Vita.

They are some of the best handheld ports we've ever seen, so again, if portability is a priority to you, it's not a problem, it's fucking fantastic.

There might be 5 games worth owning if we're counting downloadable games but you cannot count PSP or PSX games. People are not going to spend close to $300 with men card when the Vita section is so bare.

Oh I get that, like i said the vita has a MASSIVE perception problem and Sony doesn't seem to be doing much, if anything, to fix it. If the vita does though it will be Sonys fault not the consoles.

Okay, I'll let them have the one subscriber thing for this week because Brad was a fucking trooper in that Doom 2 marathon.

Sounds like I need to watch this Ryan vid..

Edit: Maybe I shouldn't have, the Wii U chat is making my brain melt...

Not sure where you're getting that, but myself, Patrick, and Ryan carry our 3DSs with us everywhere, and I play mine on the bus every time I get a seat. If there's ever an iOS game better than Mario 3D Land, I'll eat my damn phone.

By the way I just "finished" that game yesterday and holy shit is that "last" level incredible. I almost jumped out of my seat on the bus as I was frantically dodging Bowser's super fireballs as little Mario and just barely made it to the end. Playing 3DS on a bumpy bus ride is a whole extra level of challenge!

Make sure to bring it up on the podcast :D

I know there's a part of the GB community that flips out any time it's mentioned, but have you guys considered doing some type of weekly iOS gaming round-up? In either text or video form?

You nkow what guys: I think I have devoloped a great sense of respect for Ryan after watching that video.

Fuck #Teambrad, bring on #TeamfuckRyan, I say

Watching this you realise that although the GB guys can say some silly stuff at times, they're so much more informed than everyone else. It's easy to forget why you liked them so much when they're all you listen to and forget what everyone else is like...

Watching that Quoted for Truth thing, are the other two presenters intentionally trying to sound like 'average consumers' rather than journalists? Because yeah, I'm just imagining someone saying something similar to the PS4 speculation on the Bombcast... they'd get ripped to shreds.

So are all those new levels just remixed versions of the original eight worlds, or is this like a whole second game crammed in there?

Because if so holy shit. Some of those later levels toward the "end" were amazing. Wish I'd played more of this last year, it would probably have been a top-10 for me.

They're mostly remixed but they've done it in the best way. The post-game made 3D Land go from a good to great game for me. Top 5 Mario game because of it.
The first time around is easy enough to get a bit boring (imo). The 2nd time through is what the game should have been.

Then it might be just Jeff. ;)

And I agree that Super Mario 3D Land is pretty awesome. While I no longer own a 3DS I played at least that and loved it. Still not enough to keep a handheld around for me.

PS: I can't wait for your RE6 impressions.Judging by some of the stuff I heard (and played) it could make for some fun on the podcast.

PPS: My breaking bread idea would be to have you try to learn DOTA2. I am sure that would break you.

Ryan asked the guy to name five Vita games;

Lumines: Electronic Symphony
Gravity Rush
LittleBigPlanet Vita
Hot Shots
Uncharted (yes, it's good, although I admit it would be better on a TV)
Super Stardust Delta
Tales from Space: About a Blob

With P4 Golden, AC: Liberation, and Soul Sacrifice to come, and I think Plus and Cross-Buy are awesome features. Not saying it's the greatest system ever, but when people say the Vita is lacking I'm always puzzled.

Does Super Stardust Delta differ in any way from the PS3 version?

The dude totally choked under pressure. I can't really blame him, though. I don't know the Ryan origin story, maybe the Vita killed his Uncle Ben, but he was really lacing into the guy.

Name five games as in five that will make the general consumer want to commit to a new handheld. The Vita has only one or two games that makes me consider it. It's not a confusing sentiment, what you listed seem to be things mostly current owners would be content with.

Name five games the PS1 had during its first 6 months that would make the average consumer consider it. Now do PS2. Now do PS3. Sony is so dumb! They should have dropped the price on those systems immediately.

The snark is unnecessary, not wanting to buy a system because it has no real promising titles coming is normal. Comparing the Vita to PS1, PS2 and PS3 doesn't work; I have no reason to think it'll eventually receive anywhere near the amount of support those widely successful consoles received. The PSP certainly didn't instill that kind of confidence and that's a more apt comparison.

but the ps2 and ps3 at least had the promise of games people wanted.

MGS2-4, the next Final Fantasy, Grand Theft Auto etc....

Whats coming out of Vita past this holiday?

I think the Vita's biggest problem (from a core gamer's perspective) is that it often ends up delivering experiences that you can also get in the living room. It makes it harder to justify the purchase when you already own a PS3 and you don't have a need for portability.

So maybe it's more accurate to say that it's lacking in truly unique, must have experiences.

Exactly, and to give him some PS2 games from the first 6 months: SSX, Tekken Tag Tournament, Zone of the Enders, Onimusha

Some really good titles and in 2001 you also got games like MGS2, Final Fantasy X, Grand Theft Auto 3, Gran Tourismo 3, Devil May Cry... Does the Vita have anything of that caliber on the horizon? I don't think so.

It was in answer to the video, and I do think the snark is a little necessary to balance out the anger. His stipulations were very clear: no ports of existing games and no upcoming games. The Vita had to be judged by what has been released so far alone. Under that lithmus test within the first 6 months of a console's release, I would say the vast majority of systems would also fail.

I understand people not buying a Vita, that's fine. I agree that there is no MUST HAVE system seller, but once you own it, if you like video games, you will have plenty to play. I just can't justify the anger and negativity towards the console. I personally see some great games on the horizon... in fact, October and November are going to be excellent.
