Speaking of games GB didn't review, how come they haven't done any for The Walking Dead series? Patrick's up to date with them right? And Ryan and Vinny are playing them as well? It's unfortunate because it's one of the best games of the year and it deserves as much coverage as possible. Hopefully it features in one or two of their top 10 games for the year.

no conspiracy theories

I'm sure they will when the whole game is out.

I don't know if they will review it once it's finished. They've already talked about it so much and it's clear they all adore it. Summarizing their thoughts and slapping a 5/5 on it is a waste of time at this point.

Heh, "second wind"? Why do you say that? Because Ryan finally bought and you finally want one? :P

I'm not saying this as an ardent Vita defender, by the way. While I like the system and am glad I have one, I don't see this second wind, and think it's still in deep shit.

Mainly because the Crossplay stuff really appeals to me, and little indie games like Retro City Rampage and Hotline Miami seem like they would be best on a handheld with a really nice screen. Hopefully Liberation is good, but if they never shipped another quality retail game and the Vita just became a place to play PSN indies on the go with the ability to sync your progress to the console, I'd still be somewhat interested.

Yeah but not everybody necessarily listens to the Bombcast, or at least not regularly. And I'm pretty sure I remember Brad (?) saying reviews create the most traffic on the site, so I think it could still serve a purpose. Would've been better if they'd done them at the time of release though obviously, it's strange that they didn't considering Patrick is actually playing them - I imagine they don't really have a huge about of time to play games that they aren't currently covering, even if they are relatively short ala TWD.

Now that I think about it.. I haven't seen a video review in a long time.

I hope video reviews are retired for good.

The guys reading off scripted and pre-pepared texts feels extremely out of character with the rest of the site.

I just like the oldschool feel of them..brings me back to Gamespot days with Greg..

QLs are better than video reviews, and easier for them to produce. From what they have said in the past, the amount of work it takes to produce a video review is not worth it, especially with the small crew they run with these days.

Aww, it works for the GOTY videos.

I have very mixed feelings about the Vita. I'm one of the fools that bought the pre-launch bundle and got it a week early or whatever. I played a lot of Fifa and then... kinda lost interest. Then I played a ton of Lumines late this summer and then lost interest again. Now it's sitting in its case (that one case that came with the bundle that smells like old potatoes) and I'm thinking maybe I'll try AC:Liberation? Maybe? It's really impressive piece of hardware but it's worthless without good games.

I love video reviews as a complement to a good written review. I don't think GB ever really nailed the feel in them though. Kevin VanOrd is a good example of how to do them right in my opinion, I always really enjoy his video reviews.

Didn't they say that video reviews get more hits than the QL of the same game?

I cannot remember where I heard Jeff talking about it (potentially a Jar video or on the PAX review panel w/ Gies) but I believe he was saying that a quick look produces more of a response (comments and traffic) compared to a text review. It would make sense that a video review would pull the most attention. I guess my overall point was it is probably way to much work to produce for that crew. Honestly, I'd rather them spend time quick looking everything.

In the last Bombcast when they're talking about The Walking Dead they mentioned some object that Vinny probably has in his bug-out-bag. What object are they talking about?

Ah, so maybe you're just saying it's got its second wind for you, personally? Because I agree with all this (especially Hotline Miami on a portable - I knew I wanted it on a non-PC, but you're right that the Vita would be perfect) but I still don't think it's going to make a dent with the every day consumer. I don't even think Lady Liberty is going to make this thing sell this fall, let alone Crossplay.

By the way, do you have PS Plus yet?

The thing I really like about the Vita, in spite of its lack of any one must have title is its versatility. I have a 32gb card filled to the brim with Vita games, PSP games, Minis, PSone games and even mobile games like Super Crate Box (man, Super Crate Box with buttons is awesome!). It's actually a really great piece of hardware, it's a shame it doesn't really have any killer apps, but there is no shortage of stuff to play on the system.

Yes god forbid there is a single piece of reoccurring video content on their site with some small degree of production value.

RIP old style I Love Mondays. You may not have survived the Gamespot merge but you did survive... In my heart.

I don't mind production values, but scripts aren't fun. I don't even really like the top 10 vids that much, in terms of what they're actually saying.

I get that the GB crew want to do things faster and easier but some parts of video production feel like they're starting to sag a bit. I would like it if certain video features started feeling a bit more professional again as opposed to looking like they fell out of some teenager's Youtube channel.

Only because they're being silly and have fun with those. In terms of content, they're pretty worthless - not like there's much to work with when listing a top 10 with a paragraph each.

You can go to, quite literally, every other gaming site with video content for that. Let GB do what they do best and what makes them stand out from the rest.

F that. It's a waste of their time, we get less content, and there's no appreciable difference in my viewing experience.

I don't know about you, but I'm still blown away with how much they juggle for things like the BLLSL, TNT, and their live stuff. Mad props to the whole production side of GB. I would lose my mind doing all of that.

Actually, I recall them saying that a lot of people that listen to the Bombcast never even visit the site, so it's possible that it may reach more people than a review would.

6 hours in and this Halo marathon is great.

Forgot how boring, maze like and plain a lot of Halo levels are though. People have a lot of nostalgia glasses for that game. Despite the AMAZING things it did, the level design really kills a lot of it, I think.

Loved them getting stuck up high and not being able to trigger another checkpoint, ha.

Speaking of production values, or lack thereof, I was linked this video a couple of days ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SG_8XHk5JDk

So perfect

. I forgot how awesomely hilarious their randomness can be.

There are high highs and low lows for sure. The Silent Cartographer is still one the best levels in any shooter I can think of but The Library is a horrible slog and was the first time I played it. The large level you go through twice can be fun because there is a good mix of in door and out door vehicle areas but it goes on for too long, going through a second time backwards doesn't help it and the lack of visual variety in the in door sections can be disorienting and drag on you.

If you end up getting a Vita you should really check out Gravity Rush. I'm sad to see it ignored on Giant Bomb outisde of Navarro's less than favourable review.

Patrick played it and talked about it on the Bombcast. He thought it was "eh, ok," which surprised me, as I thought it was the kind of game Patrick would love. Jeff also talked about it briefly, as he only played it for like fifteen minutes or something. Again, "eh."

To be fair, Patrick really talked up the freedom of movement which is without doubt the best thing the game does. It's definitely a flawed game, but one that I would say is something of a must play if you own a Vita.
