I was just playing some Dark Souls on PC, and I've been stuck for a while around the area they did the QL in, between kicking down the ladder in Undeadburg, the dragon bridge, and the area with all the archers, armor pig, and what not. Finally got through that part, and did pretty much the exact same thing they did to get to the next bonfire: run like hell. Except somehow, I had 3 knights chasing me along with a herd of undead. Tense as hell, and felt a bit like cheating, but Dark Souls seems like the kind of game one shouldn't feel guilty about that sort of thing.

Never EVER feel guilty with anything you get away with in that game. Dark Souls remembers all that shit and will punish you periodically for thinking you "got away" with something.

Should I have tried to get through that part the real way, to try and get a good drop off of the knights? What do you mean by "punish you"?

You might get good drops, but until you know patterns of the knights, I don't worry about drops.

As far as punishing you, you'll know when it happens. Just hope your controller is reinforced so you don't snap it in half and there aren't any magazine racks around.

You'll know when it happens, but here is an example from the first time I played:

I had just defeated a major boss in the game, I was feeling really good and felt like I could take on any enemy I came across. On top of that a new area opened up to explore.
So off I go ready to destroy anything that dared confront me. I no joke take 1 step into the new area, trigger a trap get 3 arrows in the face, THEN two guards come down the steps and kill my dude.

It honestly felt as if the game was saying "Know your place".

Hehe it's so funny to listen to old Bombcast (I'm going through all of them right now).

Vinny: Man I don't know, I wished I would see Halo 4 on my 360 one day
Jeff: Dude you're crazy, there will be a new system long before Halo 4 ever comes out.

August 2008 heh.

You did it the right way, Dark Souls is all about bonfires, do whatever it takes to get to the next one. I don't feel guilty at all when those gigantic archer assholes in Anor Londo fall off the ledge.

I looked at Lombax's post for about 30 seconds wondering what Chrono Trigger had to do with Giant Bomb or the P4 Endurance Run before I remembered.

I've tried to watch the P4 ER so many times. I think I made it to about episode 25 before I gave up. It's so boring.

Chrono Trigger was just as bad, I never watched the last few episodes of that.

I did finish both the BR and JV runs through Deadly Premonition. There was so much weird/crazy/funny stuff going on that it was easy to watch.

did Gaf hate the CT endurance run?
Not necessarily hate, but it isn't as fun as the other two, I guess.

It's kind of hard going back to watch the episodes where they read something that tells them where to go, then they wonder where they're supposed to go, wander around for half an hour wondering where to go even though the game told them where to go, and then they realized that the game told them where to go in a text bubble that they scrolled through really fast. Also, half the time they didn't realize that a good offense is a good defense / elemental attacks generally work in their favour so switching up parties is a good thing. It happened a lot and it just became rather tiresome to watch.

The last episode was probably the best one.

The three Drew/Alexis Endurance Runs we have getting snubbed in this discussion, as usual.
Those ERs were among the best ERs.

I've been watching pieces of that here and there. I saw most of their run through Halo CE and about 1/3 of Halo 2 when it was live. The stuff with Alexis' sister was pretty funny, she was all engaged with the chat and having a good time.

I was less enthused about the CT ER partly because I was familiar with (most of) the game, and partly because of how they were playing it.

If nothing else, they did inspire me to go back and finish the DS version of the game.

Blind LPs usually aren't much good unless the game is garbage and/or the people playing are naturally amusing. The best part of the CT LP was the very end, when they played it live and someone made a Lavos account on Twitter to mock them.

They're doing a Press Reset parody and I am looking forward to it more than I am Christmas.

I hope it's that...but more importantly I REALLY hope they won't back out at the last minute and actually go all the way to demonstrate how fucking stupid the whole press reset thing was. I have a feeling they won't go far considering they are talking about other game journalists.

Basing the entire feature off making fun of something that was really only objectionable in trailer form (and I guess the IE thing) would be pretty lame.

I must be watching the wrong episodes. I've mostly seen repetitive fights in repetitive dungeons and lots of time spent in menus fusing things. I'm sure it's fun to play, but it couldn't hold my interest to watch.
Persona 4 has some of the craziest shit ever shown in a GB video, and is the prime example of Jeff and Vinny being amazing with improv humor.

The opening is a bit slow as the story establishes itself and Jeff and Vinny slowly figure out how to actually play it, but it's easily the best video series on the site.

I think Persona might be harder to watch now that it's done. When they did one a day you could just treat the dungeon episodes like a podcast, and half watch it while doing something else. Almost all the S-Link or story stuff is still great though. At the very least you should try to watch it, but skip the dungeon and fusing parts.

No. You miss out on some of the best moments. Like Vinny casting Bufu on things when he shouldn't and any time they died.
