I'd love Jeff's Jar videos to be available as podcasts too.

Yeah, I could rip the audio myself, but I am so lazy.

My butler is typing this.

I'm not a subscriber and the one thing I would like to see is Jeff's Jar Time. I dunno what the fuck it is:)

I think it is a slight missed opportunity not making the current Jar Time open to all members, especially with the lack of content over a two week period.

Although hats off to Jeff for single handily providing content.

I kind of want to try to make a quad city DJs v bombcast mashup

where can I get the music? I guess I could just rip it out of the cast...

It's not really going to get easier than just pulling the first 40 seconds off any recent Bombcast file you have.

Obviously, if you run out of Bombcast music, because the Slam Jam song is long, just use previous years' songs too.

Almost done with the GOTY casts from last year (re-listening) and man, the fact that Mortal Kombat didn't make the list is a travesty. Especially after they all agree that it redefines storytelling in fighting games. And Ryan keeling over so quickly for Skyrim is ridiculous.
I listened to it recently. Patrick, man of the people, got Mortal Kombat kicked off in favor of Rayman. The better game won.

Mortal Kombat did probably deserve a spot on the list instead of LA Noire, but you can't win 'em all.

I dont remember much from last years GOTY podcasts but did they ever talk about why Uncharted 3 was kind of left out of everything.

I guess most people can admit now that it was a bit of a let down coming after Uncharted 2 but GB didn't really talk about it at all during there GOTY discussion other then for the Northies and Best Graphics. It wasnt in any of there top 10's I dont think. I would be interested in hearing that discussion looking back.

Come to think of it the Northies should be interesting this year. I feel like game developers have been using him less over cheaper Nolan North Sound alikes.

I dont think this is neccesary. The beauty of Space Jam is the Quad City DJs just kind of dogpiled 5-6 different songs into one. You can just pick and choose the parts that work best for what youre mixing it with

Spec Ops is hands down the winner for the Northies in my book.

What other games with Nolan North came out this year? I know of Spec Ops but I can't really think of any others right now.

Maybe game developers have gotten better about using him and have stopped asking him to do the Drake Voice.

But looking at it now and outside of Spec ops and Uncharted Vita and Drake again for All Stars it seems he just did a lot of "various voices" jobs this year.

The story in Mortal Kombat is complete trash. I'll never understand the praise that it gets around GAF.

It's definitely not going to give more story driven games a run for their money but it was fun for what it was (and what MK has always been), a tribute to martial arts and action flicks like Big Trouble in Little China and crazy comic book storylines that Boon and the team love. It was also a retelling of MK1-3, which is where most people's MK experience started and ended.

It's the best fighting game story ever made.

It's also complete trash.

But it's the good kind of complete B-movie trash so it's ok again.

Sadly, first statement is mostly true. Wish more developers would step up in this department, but they're too focused on other aspects of the genre for better or worse.

Second statement is also mostly true.

Third statement is definitely true. At least from every interview I've read, heard, and seen of the team, they never treat MK's storyline like it's something to be completely serious about. It's just an amalgamation of stuff they loved watching and reading mixed with their own craziness.

Those touting that MK9 is some revelation in fighting game storytelling are correct in that it was good for a fighting game, but that REALLY isn't saying much.

I just went through all the radio stuff Jeff posted on the beta site and I gotta say, he has a VERY good "radio voice". Great delivery and great editing with the sound clips from the games. Sound really pro and serious. It would be really easy to do something "hip" and "cool" considering the target audience of CBS Radio but his stuff is not cheesy at all.

I think it's all a question on whether or not you wanna count Persona 4 Arena's story as being a fighting game story, since it's just a spinoff of a long sprawling RPG series.

How do you guys think they're going to decide on the top 10 this year? I really enjoyed the Russian roulette style that they used last year. Listening to them going around the table and cutting games was super entertaining.

While I liked enough of P4A's story bits and still enjoyed revisiting those characters, the actual execution of the story mode itself was pretty bad, fighting game or not. Long, long, long sequences of nothing but inner monologues that recap P3 and P4 and each character's feelings towards one another, which I don't think was a good way of handling it. Some exposition is good but I don't think the way P4A did it helped newcomers understand the story any more than a Wiki info dump would've, while series fans had to wade through those same paragraphs of known information to get to the new bits. That could be fun for some but personally I found it tedious, even though I did like the new characters and scenarios P4A established going forward.

I thought that was a disaster, led to a lot of early animosity, prevented some good games from being higher in the top 10 (or even in the top 10 at all), and lessened longer discussion on individual games.

It isn't about the story it's about how the story is told. The way the cinematic stuff and actual gameplay seamlessly flows, doesn't slightly impress you?
