Giant Bomb Vive stream | What a Time to Be a Vive!

Damn Valve really pulled it together for this launch IMO. Including Tiltbrush and Job Simulator is so smart.

I'm surprised at how many of these game support the controllers too. They must have got devkits a good while ago.

I can only pray Oculus has already handed out Tocuh devkits.

Which is just about the most genius and elegant thing about them. The oculus method is a brute force approach to tracking.

I was skeptical at first, but the more I read and see the clearer it is that the Vive's tracking solution is objectively better in every way. Oculus CV2 will be using lighthouse-like tracking.

People always trying to make asymmetrical multiplayer happen.

It's never gonna happen.

This game is okay for what it is.

Just think of the amount of extra data the Oculus needs. They need a USB3 port just for one camera. Touch is going to require another. If they need USB3 then one should presume that there is a not insignificant amount of data to be processed by the PC.

The Vive only needs USB2 ports. Will have to wait for teardowns but I suspect that all the processing is being done by a low power microcontroller in the headset.

Apparently if you want to use the pass through camera for Chaperone it says to use a USB3 port.

That's a huge difference. I'll bet Carmack would love so much to be able to experiment with (and talk publicly about) lighthouse tracking.

Ah yeah, true. That was before they added the camera. Still they can use processing budget for chaperone that the Oculus doesn't have as it needs that for tracking position with the two cameras.

Can't see games like that having the budget of Halo, Uncharted or Gran Turismo.

And yet they are better games than those.

Also, I doubt budgets are super lopsided, unless you include markeitng, because yes, marketing for those types of games is on an order of magnitude higher.
