From what I see the ball is recalled back in time to the other side of the net when you're teleported.

One of the Headmaster devs said to the Tested guys that you have to re-think a lot of traditional game mechanics when making a VR sports game. One example was completely removing the random ball spawn location because your physical location and movements add enough randomness as it is.

Seems to be disagreement if that's a good idea. Some people who've tried said it break immersion more than stepping over the cable.
