Giant Bomb Vive stream | What a Time to Be a Vive!

The GIFs coming out of this stream right now are going to be amazing. Great job lining up the spectator mode camera with their camera.

The camera view capturing the hand gestures/head movement in VR space is really neat. Involves the viewers really well. Makes it kind of a performance.

The install base on these VR head sets is in the tens of thousands. Developers are going to have to charge a premium for VR games with that small of an install base.

You're totally right but I also feel they're taking advantage as well. The amount of time that seems to have gone into developing some of these seem miniscule relative to non-VR games at that price point. Handguns, Horseshoes, & Hand Grenades has some pre-built assets, same for A Legend of Luca and Vanishing Realms for example. Space Pirate Trainer looks great fun but that is straight up programmer art. :P

Regardless, I'll be buying a bunch of them once my Vive arrives this week.

How easy is it to add support for it? Like if Skyrim did VR support would it be fairly easy to get the Omni working with it?

It comes with translation software, you can make it either send xinput commands (working essentially like the left analog stick of the xbox 360 controller) or keyboard commands, and that lets it work with a number of non-supported games. Like I played Dear Esther with the omni in xinput mode.

It can also do native support - the game included, Omni Arena, has really awesome decoupled controls (it tracks your body). They are releasing an SDK so you can work it into games and mods this way, but that will obviously be more work than making it merely emulate xinput.
