Giant Bomb Vive stream | What a Time to Be a Vive!

Jeff feels no fear.

I really want someone to make a Diablo-style dungeon crawler on a giant VR table, but with a twist:

The table is in the middle of one of those Games Workshop nerd shops and the bosses you fight are model statues sitting on shelves all around you - but they come to life and fly onto the table to fight.

Putting that idea out there royalty-free

This makes me think the toys to life games could get pretty crazy. But I would completely be in for that type of stuff or Toy Soldiers type of games with you being in the actual world.

The bits of the stream that I've been able to catch has me so fucking pumped! Damn I can't wait for my Vive to arrive so I can say goodbye to seated experiences for a while. It's fine or whatever but this shit is next level.

My girlfriend is taking anatomy for her nursing degree right now, pretty sure she'd be stoked to be able to see something like that. Feel like most of this would be more impressive when utilized in things not gaming related like that VR blowup of a skeleton and human organs.

Seriously? This is the most in love with VR I've ever been.

I've just browsed through the thread and realised how many people seem to like it. Enthusiasm can only get you so far though. This looks ''terribly' familiar. I'll just say 'not for me', although I'd have to point out I was 'maybe' before I watched this.

Haven't been following the stream so far. So is VR DOA or not?

Vive software look really fun but they're pretty much a bunch of mini games to me. It looks awesome but I don't think it justifies the price tag yet. I can see myself enjoying these games for a few month then never touch them again once innovation wears off.

as a radiologist that is cool as hell

The possibilities!!

I'm an engineer for an imaging company and thought the same thing. That could change CT and MR in some exciting ways. For some reason the first thing that popped into my mind was a virtual colonoscopy. Strange, I know.

Aww cmon dude thats nonsense :)

I remember back in the day watching Jeff play Condemed and following these guys pretty exclusively for a long long time. I used to have a pretty long commute to work and I started noticing a trend that the more I listened to them all the more apathetic I was getting about games and anything to do with games in general. I'm the same age demographic as the crew and so its definitely not a case of getting older. I shouldn't have said anything but they really are kind of a drag to listen to and I should know better.

You're too edgy for me.

I still do use a trapper keeper that has the battletoads on it so yeah I would have to agree.

Man, I'm getting the urge to replay Portal 2 now.

how's quantum break?

You can't distract me I have an agenda!

Its dang good so far. There is something definitely unique about Remedy that still comes through and thats great to still experience.

Portal 3 has to be coming. It just has to be.

Don't those pill cameras already do all encompassing view? Expensive but hey if you want to do VR colonoscopies there you go.

They're definitely cynical about things, but I appreciate their discretion and find myself playing a lot of games I otherwise wouldn't have tried thanks to their coverage. They're not for everybody, but it's certainly possible to follow them without becoming jaded or down on games.

None of the games shown seem particularly deep or engaging over time, so in that regard it's the same as the Rift launch line-up. The difference here is a touch more of polish from Valve and of course the controllers which make 'experiences' and tech demos that much more thrilling.

As a fan of GB, I for one always allow their opinions to influence mine.

You both have the Iron Will I need.

Definitely, but for a launch lineup this is significantly stronger than the Oculus lineup, or even honestly what I was personally expecting for a launch lineup for VR.

If I had a PC and even remotely cared about VR, the Vive would probably be the one I get of the three, assuming the support is there.

It's funny how all the VR stuff seems to bring out the creativity in devs, art-wise I mean, the demos they've shown so far all have very distinct and cool styles.

Brad's the new Robin Hood.

Hand tracking for sure.

I would say the complete package/software.

Well the biggest reason they're having more fun is that the software itself is much better than the stuff on the Oculus stream. Roomscale and especially hand tracking are probably a reason for that.

Both, mostly hand tracking imo.

Depends on the demo and what it is doing. But by and large, hand tracking is the big change.
Okay. That's making me feel a lot better then. I have an Oculus preordered, and it seems like I'll still be safe with that then, because I'll be able to purchase the touch controls once they are available and still experience basically everything they're showing.

What they are talking about now, want to walk around in games....I agree,

Not sure on this stuck in a 8 ft box.#

I would love a RIGs destiny game....in VR

I'm with Jeff, using analogue movement in Gear VR didn't get me sick and I much prefer to do that than teleporting constantly around.

Pretty much. Early on a lot of games will be made just trying to figure out works. The motion controls and room scale tracking is a vast improvement for immersion.

"Seems"...exactly.

You must experience it to understand. The room scale and motion controls add so so much to the experience. Sitting and standing can barely compare. (How I feel after using my Vive)

As a fan of GB, I for one always allow their opinions to influence mine.

GB just seems way more honest to me than pretty much every other gaming media site/youtube channel out there. They're not hypemen, which I like. It's closer to how I would react playing a game, unlike all those crazy youtube streamers. Even their reviews dont seem to get caught up in hype trains, which I feel many media outlets are most definitely guilty of.

"I like real movement in video games"

"It feels limiting in a 'fun video game' way"

Same.

VR might be worth it once they solve motion sickness on free walking.

Analog stick, Treadmill, whatever, I just want to move around a large space (without having an extra empty room).

Skyrim, Minecraft, etc. I want to be in a world, not a room.

Along with the games themselves feeling less like tech demos/arcade titles/downloadable indies.

because I'll be able to purchase the touch controls once they are available and still experience basically everything they're showing.

I definitely disagree with that. VIVE will always have a TON more support for motion controllers than the Touch for Oculus ever will.
