Giantbomb's Endurance Run: The Third: Chrono Trigger

Hahahhahahahaha.

I'm sorry but this whole thing is hilarious. I feel bad for anyone who's actually trying to discuss the ER in here. Yanger what the fuck is wrong with you man, really. Maybe you should sleep on this before posting again.

You guys are forgetting the point of ERs. They play it and you watch. If they fuck up or go the wrong way, that's the point. Ryan is a noob and if he's lost then fine. I doubt you guys figured out exactly where to go on your first playthrough in several spots.

Sure, he has Patrick but maybe Patrick doesn't wanna spoil all the surprises cuz that's boring to watch. I like Ryan seeing things he doesn't expect. Part of the fun.

Great. One idiot makes a stupid drive-by post and suddenly all of GAF gets painted with the Moron Brush.

Jerk should have stayed in his MMO threads.

Watching them waste a half hour running through a forest making the same mistake in the same spot two days in a row is not fun to watch.

The Bufu Fiasco was fun to watch. It was dumb, but it was funny, it only lasted like a minute and a half, and it only happened once.

I don't want to talk about it any more because this thread now has its own Creepy "Rape"-er Guy, and because this latest episode was 954 times better, so can we all please move on?

Sure they could easily edit the video but ERs are uncut playthroughs. If it bugs ya, just fast forward. I can understand if they were streaming it.

Indeed, when I see that they've hit a wall, I'll just fast-forward to where they finally find the right path.

Still is funny that they forgot the princess twice, but at least they didn't get lost in the latest installment.

I love that everyone's still focused on the negative despite part 5 being way better. People need to take a step away from this thread and breathe.

I love that everyone is focused on the negative posts of one crazy poster rather than discussing the ER (of which todays episode was much better than the repeated area and mistakes of yesterdays).

This is Neogaf, dude. Who wants to talk about something positive when we can endlessly bitch about something?

Episode 5 was good. A lot less frustrating to watch than 4. Though the fact that Ryan NEVER HEALS HIS PARTY is a little grating. All in all, they made progress, fought the dragon tank intelligently, and generally didn't get lost or do something silly.

It gives me hope that things will go more smoothly as they venture farther into the game.

Also, it was awesome to hear Ryan's reaction upon reaching the future.

A few minutes of work and wah-la!

What is going on in here? Some people take their games way too seriously. Let them play how they want to play.

This is amazing. How did you get such an accurate photo?

Also, it breaks the convention but it obviously should be Brobo not Bobo. This episode was a lot better, what can I say (Though still painful to watch them stumble through killing the 1 hp mobs that the npc clearly said needed to be hit by magic, still, they SORT of figured it out at least).

I haven't read everything in here yet, nor have I seen the fifth episode yet... but what the hell just happened in this thread?

watching this kind of makes me glad i never bought the DS version :/
Don't take what you see here as representative of how the game flows. They play games differently, you'll play this differently. Not to mention that the game gets better, and the DS version is the definitive version. It doesn't have the Woolsey script, but it has a bunch of new additions and UI redesigns to make the game more DS and on-the-go friendly. Not to mention that a few of the additions tie up some storylines and set it up for Chrono Cross.

The more I watch this endurance run the more painful it gets. It honestly feels like rape to see a pair of grown game industry veterans be THIS bad at a very easy game. I mean, come on how many of us got stuck in Chrono Trigger EVER, even as kids? It's a huge disservice to the game (since i'm sure it makes it look awful to anyone who hasn't played it, I would certainly think it does), and a huge disservice to the notion that these guys are remotely trustworthy in regards to forming opinions about a product.
...

I like Chrono Trigger a lot, but...

wow...

Some of you guys have a serious fucking problem. You should learn to re-read what you wrote, and turn on your brain before actually posting it, hopefully learn some sense (which may lead to you learning some respect) and stop acting like over-entitled cunts. You make these threads, and others, impossible to read,

Stop raping me.

Episode 5 was pretty good. So out of the first 5 episodes, only 2 have been lacking and outside of them getting lost, Ryan and Patrick have done a solid job keeping things entertaining.

They're right, Chancellors are always evil.

Did they always pronounce her name as 'Barley'? Didn't it used to be 'Barl'?

Some of you are overreacting to the ER, even after the fifth episode, mmkay? Stop being silly! I feel like:

...when I see comments about rape or whatever.

I think we just need to chill and take a large swig of something.

Anyway, Episode 5 was entertaining, especially after the blunder that was Episode 4! Good job, Team RP!

However, I wish they'd heal their party more! They'd have an easier time if they did this. Plus they should sort their inventory before they get more and more items. It's also very nice to see they fought the Dragon Tank competently outside of the Lucca death (but again, this could have been avoided if Ryan healed his party).

Anyway, now they're in the FUTURE
2300 AD
. They have lotsa stuff to encounter here, like Brobo and
Johnny THE MAN
.

And they figured out that these creatures and their palette swaps:

...are weak against non-physical attacks.

yeah it seems like they've almost got things figured out now. I just hope they pick up on the idea that the ladies in the party are more about tech than attack.

I'm kind of surprised that they haven't figured out how useful Barle's Aura is at this point, but I think they'll get it eventually. Also, it seems like they're picking up that Bucca's attacks are usually hit or miss, so I hope they learn that she's more useful as a fire user than a physical attacker.

They're going to have to eventually since some bosses and enemies are only weak against certain elements.

But it almost seems like they're going to use Brog, Brobo, and
Bayla and maybe Bagus
extensively, if they want to go with physical attacks most of the time...

This is amazing. How did you get such an accurate photo?

That's just from South Park in an episode where Indiana Jones was raped by George Lucas and Steven Spielberg (literally). You can find every episode on south park's site.

This episode was probably the best one yet. I'm praying the battery makes it to the end of the ER.

If you've never played Chrono Trigger and don't own a DS, is the PS3 PSN version playable?

PSN version is the PS1 version, so you'll be dealing to a certain degree with slowdown and loading times. I've never played that port but I imagine it's manageable.

Someone just needs to send Ryan an email that says "HEAL YOUR PARTY! SERIOUSLY!"

He's doing well, but he's not healing enough, and it's going to bite him in the ass later, especially when he has to start juggling which turns will be used for healing and which turns will be for attacking. He doesn't seem to look enough at his health, and his characters get far too low in HP for where he is in the game. No one should be dying this early on in the game, especially against the dragon tank, which is ridiculously easy.

He also needs to use Crono and Lucca's MP a lot more. I don't know what he's saving it up for, but he seriously needs to use it more often. That shit is easy to replenish. I can see preserving Marle's for a rainy day since she's got Aura, but damn dude, USE YOUR SHIT.

There was no reason not to use techs to finish off the Dragon tank. Using regular attacks just made the fight longer, and there was no real tactical advantage to doing so.

All in all, I think they're doing pretty okay, but someone in the office needs to give Ryan a crash course in JRPG party management.

(I certainly don't think there's anything wrong with doing some reading up and learning some helpful tips from people that know more about the genre than you might. I do exactly that when I play games within genres I have very little experience in. It definitely enhances the enjoyment, too)

I love how before Yakra, he saved then used a shelter to full heal, then patrick said "You should save again" and ryan was like "nah". Then after they lost that save file, he immediately goes into the door and gets rocked, because that save was pre-using the shelter.

I always obsessively save after I heal, there's no reason not to.

TheYanger is right - if Ryan plays Chrono poorly enough, people could view it as a reflection on the system. How will the SNES survive after this non-consensual sex?

Y'all are some slow readers. I don't find they are skipping over the text.

But if they weren't skipping over text they'd have known to go back to where the princess disappeared instead of wandering out to the bridge/canyon/forest. That's what people mean when they are skipping text, as in not paying enough attention.

They do seem to be getting better. I think. I mean they were warned about the enemies that are weak to magic and they picked up on that pretty fast.

Episode five was more fun then previous ones, despite the pretty poor Ryan skill.

Watching it made me think about this: is this part of the game the only one where you can sneak attack mobs (or interact with them in any way outside of battle)? And, what are the boss battles that end with a "special" Chrono attack/animations?

You mean Ryan? Brad is not on the Endurance Run.
