Giantbomb's Endurance Run: The Third: Chrono Trigger

Sure, but at the same time it seems counter-productive to complain incessantly about it. If you've disliked most of this so far, maybe it isn't for you? Especially since some people have no problem with it. And if it isn't for you, maybe you should stop watching?
Well it is a thread about the CT ER, so people are allowed to discuss it (be it positive or negative). Just because I wish they would pay attention a little more doesn't mean I dislike the whole entire thing. I would've stopped watching it long time ago if I really hated it.

Edit: It probably would've been better if they didn't already record these so far in advance and were able to take some advice from viewers while playing.

They record ahead of time specifically to avoid exactly that. They don't want tips, hints, spoilers or tricks, it's endemic to the Endurance Run experience.

Which is different from the first ER. I think they started the record ahead of time method with DP.

I don't think Jeff and Vinny would have gotten past Yukiko in the first ER without the daily comments myself. Then again, Jeff got a major endgame spoiler due to that as well. Recording ahead of time is probably a lot easier from a schedule and production point of view, which is likely the main reason behind it. Not getting spoilers or tips is just an added bonus.

That's right. Their experience with tips, hints and spoilers during the P4 Endurance Run made them not want to receive any more tips, hints and spoilers during future Runs. Especially with a game like Chrono Trigger that so many know inside-and-out, remember there is no "right" way to play the game and playing it at its peak efficiency is not desirable or necessary.

I'm really loving this ER. At first Ryan and Patrick seemed like a really odd choice, but nope, they play off each other quite well. I actually enjoy the carelessness of their play and how they stumble upon things, because that to me, is how the ER should feel. It should be them playing through the game as they normally would and enduring it over time. In my opinion it just adds to the whole thing. I don't want to watch them play the game the way people tell them to, so I'm glad these are prerecorded. It should be fun to see how their play style changes (if it even does) as they progress more. I've completed CT many of times and have not got frustrated watching them once, because it's just fun seeing how they play and respond to the game. Their reaction to many of the events have been great so far and they seem to really be enjoying the game up to this point.

It's been awhile since I've played CT to completion and I think now may be a great time to jump back in for another go. Man, just watching them play through CT just shows how awesome that game was for it's time. Such a lighthearted feel, yet such dire consequences... Awesome music, quirky and likeable companions and characters... Just an absolute blast to play.

Definitely enjoying the ER and look forward to tomorrows episode.

I think they recorded ahead with P4 as well. I think they even recorded multiple episodes on a single day, sometimes.

It's true, especially near the end, you could see several images uploaded a week beforehand of episodes before the video went live.

I think it's a week before. Ryan says it's Thursday at the beginning of the new one and I doubt both Ryan and Patrick woke up super early to record an endurance run.
Well, they could just record it on Wednesday and say it's on Thursday.

I thought I heard Ryan mention something along the lines of "You're welcome we're actually reading the text now," so I figured he's reacting to the comments.

Also, yesterday Patrick said "Happy Thanksgiving, er, Halloween," or something similar. I think they might be playing around with the viewers since they threw out the possibility of recording it well in advance.

As I recall, Jeff basically admitted on the Bombcast that he and Vinny would basically sit down and record a full week or two of Persona 4 Endurance Run episodes in an all-day Monday (and sometimes Tuesday) marathon.

Personally, I think all of the "tips" people try and give out in the comments is really annoying. It's the worst case of back-seat driving anyone could ever do.

Shit all crazy and messed up in your home village? Run into cave without talking to anyone!

Truce is your home village. Medina village is on a different continent. But yeah, they should have entered into houses. They should have done that in the beginning, and gotten the tutorial lessons in the Mayor's house.

Really? I thought that time got screwed up. Assumed you'd end up where the time portal was that you left on.

Seriously, there is nothing worse then playing a game for the first time with someone in the room who has already beaten it and won't shut up about what to do.

There was a point when I was playing the first Dead Space where I actually kicked someone out of my apartment for 5 minutes because of this. He uttered the following line without taking a breath as I accessed an in game store:

"Yeah, that voice you just heard was your dead girlfriend You're going to hear a lot from her in the future You should upgrade the Pistol There's a zombie behind you."

Waaaa, my DS battery died while I had it in sleep mode. I hope I saved before I abandoned the game last time.

Fixed

You and your friend are very alike.

Can't wait until they arrive in the
12000BC
and then
The Kingdom of Zeal
. The music alone is going to make them crazy and the map design... o man :).

Really? 3 Years and a sequel later and we still can't talk about Dead Space? Damn son. Guess I'll fix it up.
You should've told your friend to leave for 3 years after spoiling the game. That would be thread worthy. ;)

I was kidding in my post and I have played Dead Space. But there really is no statute of limitations on spoilers unless you want to hear shit (from people who mean it and not joking like me).

But this is OT so never-mind. CT is godlike. Please resume.

Ahhhh, I wish I could just watch this before I come home. Ah well, the episode seems decent based on the comments in here. Will watch in a bit.

That was definitely fun. CT is my favorite game ever. So good.

[Gold stud,
Magus, Dark Matter
] does break the game. Well, so do a lot of parties so you just have to control yourself. ;)
And I definitely like talking stats when the opportunity arises (especially for one of my favourite games ever), so that was really great. I still like to emphasize difficulty and party dynamics, though. It's just cool how everyone can play Chrono Trigger's battle system differently and still get through it with little problems, just because the battle system is built around party synergy. Also, I still agree with the bits you posted about the narrative essentially giving hints as to which parties are structured well (ex: Marle/Frog/Crono, Marle/
Ayla
/Crono, Marle/Lucca/Crono, etc).

Oh no you didn't!
Oh man, I remember reading that and just shaking my head and laughing to myself. Marle is fantastic in almost any party she's in.

Chrono Trigger OVA.......my God what the hell did I just watch?
The cutest thing ever.

C'mon. You know you want to wake up to this face.

Cool, I'm glad somebody latched on to that. That is one of the coolest parts of CT along with the gurus. Even though we discussed it so much there is so much more to be said. It kind of gets written off as a more generic storyline due to its length and lack of FF type drama. But I could go on and on about CT. Less is more sometimes with story making you fill in the blanks (see SoTC).

Dudes are awesome.

Marle is completely useless, both Robo and Frog are more than capable healers, and actually contribute to combat. Marle has no place in the game as soon as you can remove her from the party.
WTF? You don't bring Marle for healing - you bring Marle for Haste. That way Crono and Ayla (or Lucca) can rip more shit up faster.

Ever since the Skyrim QL, that's the next randomly played video for me.

Me too! That's a great QL though, so I can't complain.

I'm not really watching this endurance run because I'm expecting these guys to be really good at the game or go through it efficiently. I actually think it would be less entertaining if they really knew what they were doing.

EDIT: They are pretty bad though.

Just note that I brought that quote in from the old LTTP thread. ;)

However, you should definitely be using Marle for healing as she is the best in the game at it. We went on forever in the previous thread about this stuff though. I'm still kind of burnt out on it like 6 months later. lol

They better choose the damn Rainbow Sword!

There is no choice of Rainbow sword, you always get it. You have to choose between Rainbow Dress vs 3 Rainbow Helms (take the helms! Get a Rainbow Dress from Charming Zeal in BO).

That reminds me - my biggest complaint about this game is you have to take Ayla to every single late-game boss so you can steal their shit >.<. Still, I'd give this game 10/10 any day.
