Giantbomb's Endurance Run: The Third: Chrono Trigger

Bummer, the episode wasn't even a half hour long. I wish they just went for it in the same episode.

Hopefully there's a real break in the recording so they'll have to figure things out again in the next one. :P

I wish they kept the ruby vests, they help a lot in this fight.

I'm playing along with the ER and I was using Marle and Bobo. Haste+Spin cut is absolutely fantastic.

They both blow anyway. Chrono/Ayla/Magus for the speed team.

Hell fucking yeah. The only problem is that they'll never grind, so Magus will be useless to them, even if they manage to figure out how to get Magus.

I am guessing this week and next week was all recorded in one batch, so I guess we will get another set of 30 min episodes next week too. That is acceptable, as it was 5 hours of playtime in one go - in the middle of all the GOTY stuff too.

Hopefully there's a real break in the recording so they'll have to figure things out again in the next one. :P
The Youtube video is dated 23rd December (i.e. was uploaded then but set to private) and at the end I think they said see you on Monday. Does that mean the 26th December or did the recall when these would be put live?

I appreciate their tenacity to keep trying, but they're still playing with one of the most awful teams in the game. I don't know why they gravitate towards the robot that can't use magic, and then use him as a healer.

It's a robot named Bobo. What more can you ask for.

I think we're stuck with that team for the rest of their game, crappy as it is. Well except
for the next part where no there's no Crono
. There's no way they're going to take time to grind to get the other characters tech points. So it's the robot and the frog for the rest of the game. Hate the robot but love the frog.

They only used their long awaited "Uzzi" Punch once. Robo is now the main healer. Ha.

What do you think they'll do if they have another catastrophic save malfunction that erases all their progress? Think they'll start over or call it quits?

They don't realize that other characters have better all-team heals.

Team heals are over-rated. During the portion of the game where you can't boost mag def per character, you are given plenty of lapis's. Once you can boost mag def, there is no more spread DPS. Then you can use isolated heals which will guarantee 100% while your other team-mates don't need attention. Any haste team can also self-sustain with high-tonics or a heal battery. I do however use aura whirl very early in the game before items start popping up. So it's probably 10% team heal, 30% lapis, 60% mag-def/iso. In the mag-def portion I can get Marle taking 50-70 damage while the rest of the team is 200-300. The other problem with team heals is that you have them on high damage dealing characters. You don't want that. Damage dealing characters should never stop doing damage. Utility characters are in charge of buffing their damage with dual techs when they are not required to support. It's vastly more effective.

It's also overall more effective not to be abusive about healing. If you have an isolated healer, rez spell, and/or athenian waters you can risk it. If you leave someone unattended and they KO, bring them up. If they don't KO, then you have gained a lot of turns. It is risk/reward but in CT it works out.

These are probably not good strategies for new players but they really crack through the game.

What is the damage difference between Lightning and Lightning 2 (vs a single target). I'm only 20 episodes in but I was yelling the entire time they kept using lightning 2 when a single lightning would have done (save your MPs yo!).

Is the DS version worth picking up if I can find it for like $10? I kinda want to play this again now, it has been forever since I last played it (and yes, I only ever played this game on the PSX :p )

Got
Inside Lavos
in my own playthrough and the fight there killed me in one hit. The game makes it really clear that this is where I'm supposed to be going, but that's clearly not the case.

Yes, it is. You might miss Brog's sesquipidelian translation, but other than that it's great.

They still play so slow. Just sitting there waiting to select an attack. In the time it takes Ryan to pick attack, Chrono could get two attacks off.

This is the only thing that truly bothers me anymore. He takes soooooo fucking long to decide what he's doing! Or, sitting there for a full turn so he can use a dual tech on an enemy that doesn't need it at all.

Lightning's damage = (Lv + Mag) × 5
Lightning 2's damage = (Lv + Mag) × 5.75

So yeah, lightning 2 does slightly more damage, but it's not worth the extra mp cost for single targets.

Frog is the only other character with an all team heal. And while Frog has a better magic stat, Robo's heal beam makes up for it by being a more powerful spell. Though Frog's better speed makes him work better as a healer.

Don't Marle and Crono have a better heal?

Meh, my memory is probably failing. I never used Robo anyway. I never liked the way he fit into any team.

This week's episodes should be damn good,
with Brono's death, finding out Magus was Janus, and Bagus joining the party
... but I think those last two aren't going to happen with this tandem. There was zero reaction when Melchior was revealed, I think they completely forgot who that was :/

Hahaha, I guarantee they have no idea who Melchior is.

Crono doesn't heal. Marle has the most powerful heals but no party heal. Frog has the party heal (heal) and Robo (heal beam). Frog wins there with lower MP and higher magic rating.

If you need a party heal then Frog is the best healer (speed/mag). If you are OK with iso-heals then Marle is the best due to her much higher mag then Frog. For me it is easily Marle -> Frog -> Robo.

Haven't been keeping up at all, but I'm guessing that their run through Zeal was disappointing in terms of reaction? :(

Ryan keeps saying "Mel-chi-or", and it bugs me. It's "Mel-kyor", Ryan! He's a magi! Come on now!
Ma-guy.

Me too. Marle's magic stat, and synergy with other members like Ayla and Lucca, really makes her shine in comparison to the others.

They're going to wipe real hard on
The Golem Twins
I just fought them now and had to go to GameFAQs to figure out how to even survive.

Sorry, I meant a healing dual tech. For some reason I thought they got a second healing dual tech, but I just looked it up - they do not.

Okay. All you guys who are getting onto them about not reading the text are seriously going to have an aneurism today. Take your blood pressure medicine before you watch.

It's really bad. Reeeeeally bad.

When they attacked the 3 Red Scouts with lightning. Patrick: "Are we not looking at the enemy names? Are these different?" as "Red Scout fights all mag but "Fire"" flashes repeatedly across the bottom of the screen. lol

And then when they decide to read, they only pay attention to the vague cluey part instead of the answer flashing at the bottom of the screen.

Man...

Holy shit this is verging on unwatchable.

When did the endurance run change from the Giantbomb team enduring a long game to the viewers enduring a bad let's play? Hmmm...

I must endure.

That part was painfully funny
