Apple's lawyers would be all over this like flies on shit. Totally planted.

Apple's controlled leaks are direct to press-folk, as a story from January before the iPad introduction indicated. Not "hey, let's lose this phone somewhere and hope someone picks it up and sells it to a gadget blog."

Since the Phat Nano picture leak and subsequent thought "if Apple legal pulls it then it's confirmed" they haven't handed out as many C&D's. This is a totally different animal though since these *aren't* typical spy pictures.

I've seen paltry video game companies act faster with screenshot leaks. Apple is letting this one fly.

As soon as Apple issues a takedown notice, then it's a confirmation. That's why they stopped issuing them over the past couple of years. Remember when the new Nanos were leaked and no takedown was issued? When the 3GS was revealed a few days early?

Well, bear in mind guys, just because Apple isn't all over this doesn't mean its not true either. As pointed out, they couldn't stop the information from leaking on Sunday, and, though they could get all biblical today, horse has already left the barn.

Now, a savvy marketing group, will accept that it leaked, let the article stand (ESPECIALLY since the article from Gizmondo is very positive and encouraging), and use any of the feedback to modify their marketing campaign, whilst leveraging Gizmondo's ass in the future if they want something from Apple.

I mean, again, why take it down? The article is almost glowing with praise, why kill it. Seems the smarter move is use it to whet the appetite.

Assuming this leak wasn't intentional, Apple's best course of action is just to ignore it. Any response would confirm the confirmed. :lol

Probably just an illusion, but in one picture the 4G looks taller (second), and in the other one, the 4G looks smaller than the 3GS.

For the new page.

Or take all the credit and call it the most brilliant viral campaign ever.

why would apple give it to gizmodo? they are the B tier technology site. In all of apple's history have they given up there new unreleased units? If that is final design you know how much money the accessory market would pay to have that unit. They would have two months head start in getting products out before everyone else.

If that is the final design, it reminds me very much of a Sony Ericisson phone. If the ceramic patent from daring fireball is true, then the entire enclosure is glass/ceramic and the aluminum band is what's holding the electronics in. It would make the unit heavier and ridged. I wonder how good heat dissipation would be, since the ceramic can either dissipate or insulate.

They have no reason to recall it now that the article has already been posted.

Best plan of action: they'll simply hang, draw, and quarter the employee who's responsible in front of 1 Infinite Loop.

I could see it happening as they have said. Something similar happened at Compaq with a new laptop we had coming out. It was stolen at a trade show, a writer contacted us saying he was going to do a story about it. The decision was made that it was free pub, so screw it. Now the employee who left it in an unlocked meeting room while he went to take a leak was fired.

Sometimes everything isn't a conspiracy. Sometimes shit happens. The design looks similiar to the images that showed up before the 3GS was released. Very similar.

I likes it.

If there is a significant bump in resolution, I'll get it. Curious about the processor though. Other than that, I don't need a front facing camera. I don't care about the flat back as it'd be in a case anyway. In a case, as shown, nobody will notice the difference and I doubt it'll make a difference in my pocket. Everything shown looks neglegible.

Am I the only one who isn't seeing what is so incredibly amazing about this update? The Nexus One already had all of these things and still looks to have better hardware. I guess anything Apple is just instantly amazing...

Is there something about Gizmodo we don't know? Are they white supremacists or something/

There was the whole fiasco a few months ago where they were bitching and moaning about not getting a review sample for a Blackberry (I believe). They basically threw a tantrum; it was so fucking childish.

Maybe someone can find the original post, but after that, I swore off of their site.

Love it. Although I I'm still holding out hope for an aluminum back.

I never liked the 3G/3Gs design. Looked cheap some how.

This thing is going to run iPhone OS.

can't people who are awaiting an iphone update be happy about some details about said iphone update?

I wonder if this is gonna force Apple to move up the even; since everybody will know what's up with the iPhone by then.

Also; yay for finally having an LED flash. About time

Apple, Inc.'s Steve Jobs noted that Gizmodo was his favorite gadget blog, further fueling a long-standing feud between Gizmodo and Engadget.
:)

Love it!! I really love the higher resolution. That is going to look glorious.

I think the person who found this put a bidding war up between gizmodo and engadget, because engadget was reporting that one of these was lost before gizmodo released the story.

If the form factor is going to be so totally revamped, do you think they'll still sell the 3GS in its current enclosure? Otherwise, the $100 bump from the $99 (?) lowest subsidized model is going to be huge.

The back of the phone is rounded, so that when it's lying on its back its center of mass looks higher (i.e. more of the phone is on the top). Lying on its face more of the phone is ...

Yes your eye is playing tricks on you, that's why so many consumer devices have rounded edges atm, :lol

Looks so amazing.

And when was Apple supposed to file for an injunction? Sunday afternoon? It's 8:30 in Cupertino. We'll know soon what their reaction is.

The Nexus One doesn't have a front facing camera.

I'm not saying that it's important, I'm saying that it didn't already have all those things.

On how this looks to have worse hardware than the N1, that's some sweet x-ray over IP skills right there.

Looks lush, better cam with flashscreen and front facing cam are great, want it.

Makes me a little hold off ish for the ipad if the 2nd gen will have a front facing cam.

So far I am with you. Also my contract runs out next year around the time I can expect new iPhones. I think I will skip this iteration and get a new susidized one next year.

I really like how it looks btw.

Wouldn't be surprised if this was done intentionally to gauge reaction to the new design before "officially" unveiling it.

the biggest thing the iphone needs is a much better screen... its a shame that this is dead, the 3gs screen looks so incredibly dated now

Did Gizmodo kill your father, too?

Ah, GAF. Never fails to de-rail a thread with meaningless rivalries/hardware allegiances that are peripheral to the actual issue.

I don't care if this leak was posted on the Freeper blog, I would still give them pageviews.

As far as I can tell, I didn't swear any allegiance or even recommend another site to read it at.

On the web, we vote with our page views. Gizmodo has shown time and again to be a poorly run and very unprofessional organization.

Why reward them with page views?

So how many of you hating on this are just pissed because it means your 3Gs are now ancient, washed up has-beens :lol

People want these features on an iPhone though, not on a Nexus One.

I've never had an iPhone. :( or a smart phone. :( or any phone with any internet capability what so ever. :'(

I like the style, it finally looks consistent with the Macbook Pros and iMacs. Not sure why there's a seam on the top next to the headphone jack. Maybe it's not the final. I guess that would help a user find the top of the device without looking at it.

Who gives a shit? They broke the story, I could really care less about "voting with my pageviews." If their website has the best info on the new iPhone, I'm going there period.

This thread is about the new iPhone being leaked months in advance, and I find it hilarious you came in here to bitch and moan about Gizmodo as a website. They'll get tons of pageviews from this, and rightfully so. It's a huge scoop.
