Gizmondo stands by Microsoft and Nvidia at CES

It's nearly New Year, and so shortly, Gizmondo will be heading out to the
Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. From 6-9 January 2005, America has its chance to see first-hand what the UK has been buzzing about for months.

Gizmondo units will be on show at the Gizmondo stand (#70037, Central Plaza) as well as the Microsoft stand (#7145, Central Hall), where the software giant will be demonstrating just how big its tiny Windows CE operating system can be, especially when powering Windows Media 9 technology.

In addition, working consoles will be put through their paces at the Nvidia stand (#35311). Nvidia provides the GoForce 4500 3D graphics accelerator, which supplies the muscle behind Gizmondo's gawp-worthy 3D gaming graphics.

"This year's CES marks the start of our launch campaign for Gizmondo in North America, and to be featured on the show floor with Microsoft and Nvidia is a great boost for our presence," said Gizmondo MD Carl Freer. "We have high expectations for the U.S. market, and this will be our first opportunity to put finished devices in the hands of consumers."

<milhouse>well, i would be damned, appears as such that the plot is ticking !</milhouse>

I'm guessing this is nothing, other than the fact that Microsoft will be wasting a few games on it.

Seems to be that Gizmondo = portable Dreamcast what with the embedded windows platform
and all.

Ah..... NO.

DC only had a few Win CE games. Most DC games ran on Kage, not Win CE.
Gizmondo's GPU only has 1MB of VRAM. No where near DC, even with texture compression.

Giz games won't look anywhere near DC's in quality.

Exactly. MS is thrown an OEM that's using embedded WinCE in their device a few bones. Nothing more.

hmmmm, no. I think if anything, Gizmondo is a testing ground for Microsoft in the handheld arena, like Dreamcast was for MS in the console arena. MS will learn what it can. then apply that to its own handheld one day. if it happens.

Hes speaks the truth...the best Win CE game on DC was Sega Rally...but still with more work it would have been better.
