God damn Firefox

I am getting sick of this fucking program, I do love it for not being IE and taking the liberty of downloading viruses and such for no apperant reason, but I am getting so pissed at this program every day. I crashes on me almost EVERY SINGLE day. ANd usualy multipul times, It seems to happen for no reason at all, some times I can have multipul windows open (like 15 sometimes) and it has no problem with it, but than I'll have 2 open and it'll crash, in other instances the windows will be completaly minimized, and I'll justbe chatting on MSN to get a critical error thing prompting em to send a error report to MS. ANd like I said this happens almost EVERY day. I just had it happen like 3 (or ws it 4) times in the last ½ hour. I fianaly created this topic when it crashed again while I was in a Fileplanet lineup and had been for about 15 minutes.

Why the HELLl does this keep hapening?

I never downloaded the FIrefox update that came out a while back, I never got around to it, and I had also remember hreadin (think it was here) that when you do it deleted there IE imported favorites. Will the patch fix this problem? SHould I just dl it? Will it delete my faves?

That never happens to me.
Scan your system for spyware/viruses, then install the latest Firefox build.
I'm not sure if it deletes the imported IE favorites... but you can always back them up by exporting all your Firefox bookmarks to a file first.

Looks like something going on with your system. I've been on .8 for some months and never had any problems and I just upgraded to .93 yesterday and everythings been fine. It even keep all my password, form, and bookmark info from .8

I love FireFox.

Happens to me though it hasn't happened in a while. I noticed that it happens often when I have pictures loading on a webpage and I use the mouse scroll button to scroll down.

Oh, I know I have a viruse and spyware on my PC, I have AVG and Ad-aware, and both suck , AVG once and a while detects the virus, but doesnt do anything about it, and Ad-aware deletes the adware/spyware, and fixes a couple things, but once I shut down my PC and start it again it re-installs it's self or soething. I just got a DVD burnewr a while back, and am considering just backing up what I want and doing a format. Problem is, I want to back up my data without backing up the viruses/adware/spyware and infecting the PC all over again.

The virus AVG sometimes manages to detect it calls Startpage something, and it's fucked IE very bad. (part of the reason I switched to Firefox. What is with this shit anyway? A freind and myself one time found the source of the virus and manualy deleted it, and the next day it was BACK. There must be other alternatives to reding a PC of viruses (that actualy work) than to just format.

I use Kazaa light, and the last time I used it, i simply downloaded 1 song, and than the next time I used my PC I had some problems return, like in the last couple days, apon opening AIM, IE launches it's self along with a couple pop-up's, and has some stupid search engind set as my homepage, and now I cant even use MSN to click to check my e-mail without the page forwarding it's self immediat;y to this new bullshit.

Get adaware, update it, and run.
Get spybot: search and destroy, update it, and run.
If you have XP get Service Pack 2.
Stop using Kazaa.

I want firefox too, but my (expensive) logitech keyboard hotbuttons aren't compatible with it. Boo!

Would using Mozilla help at all?

I'm a Mac user, so I stick to Safari, but I've noticed a lot of buzz around FireFox. Is it becoming the new, popular browser for PCs?

Is that the MX Duo? (wireless keyboard and mouse) Because my buttons don't seem to work either for webpages :(

Assuming you don't have a firewall (XP's doesn't count) download Sygate Personal Firewall, install and run it, and make sure to note every program/process that tries to access your connection. If you aren't familiar with it, punch it up in Google and see what it is.

Secondly, download Anti-Vir, update the virus definitions, and scan your system. Then download Spybot Search and Destroy, update it, and search your system with that. It has an immunize feature which'll catch spyware that tries to download when using IE.

How do you get viruses these days? Even when i used Kazaa, Bearshare, Limelight, Napster, and a host of others, i NEVER got a virus. A trojan or two, spyware, sure (it was before Phoenix), but never a virus.

Yah. Shame to have 9 extremely useful hotbuttons completely disbled. I figured out a way around it though. You can point the button to a html file on your computer that contains the adress you wanna go to, buuut it's kinda a hassle, creating all that stuff.

I have errors hourly now. Sometime when I am not even using to PC. They all started to occur after I used Windows Update for the first time since I formatted over a year ago.

I'm seriously considering switching to Firefox. For some reason my IE is slower than fuck now. When I click 'reply' it loads, then takes another 5 seconds to pop up, what the fuck? Firefox loads it in 1 second. If that. It wasn't like this a couple days ago.

The problem with Firefox is that if one window crashes, all instances close, unlike in IE. Also, sometimes it freezes with certain Java applets. And I miss the ctrl+N feature from IE. Other than that, it's lightyears ahead of IE.

Huh? I just started using Firefox a couple days ago, and ctrl+n does the same thing as it did in Internet Explorer: open a new window.

What is CTRL +N? New window? In FireFox it is CTRL T.

lol what? IE takes explorer.exe down with it. Sure explorer.exe restarts itself, problem is you lose nearly everything in systray. The end result is some phantom programs that run in which you have no control over.

Yeah, but IE opens a new window that has the same contents as the original window (clones it), Firefox opens a blank one.

Nope, if you open multiple IEs but repeatedly clicking on the icon (as oppsed to choosen "open link in a new window") and one crashes, the others are unaffected.

You can set the behaviour of new tabs. Blank window, hompage or current content.

Not in the IE I used.

I'm interested to know how to do it if you wouldn't minding explaining it. Do you have to create a hyperlink in the .htm file and get it open the file? Something like that?

Until I got my new computer Firefox had NEVER crashed on me. But now I'm getting these two pop up boxes when it crashes:
1) Standard "Firefox has encountered a problem and must close" box you get when a program crashes with the option to "Send Report" to Microsoft.
2) This Nestcape pop up box "Welcome to Netscape Quality Feedback Agent - Step 1 of 3". Now wtf does Netscape have to do with Firefox?

I don't have any extensions installed atm but I did install flash for Firefox and also the quicktime plug in with the K-Lite Codec pack.

Heh, I've never actually done it, I just know it can be done. Try to right-click a link (any link) and take "Save target as", then check it out with notepad, once it's on the comp. Just replace the link in there with the link you want the hotbutton to go to and you're set.

Edit: Ok, that wasn't the way. Then I guess you have to make a .html file and just put the link in it, it's something as simple as that, just try it out.

-yeah stop using kazaa. it is the devil.

i'd also use this handy program: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html they've got some other interesting software.

when i first got broadband i had an INSANE amount of problems with viruses and spyware (i had to format within the first week), but then i updated xp, set up a firewall, loaded my pc up with AVG Antivirus, SpywareBlaster and Spybot S&D. i update everything about once a week and i haven't gotten any viruses or spyware since, except for when i use IE occasionally.

oh yeah, firefox is great too (i can't live without tabbed browsing and bookmark toobar). i've never had it crash on me though. i have had occasional instances where it runs really really slow though, and like Malakhov said, it was only when i had pictures loading or i was scrolling with the mouse wheel. if i would open another browser however, that one would run fine, but the affected one will run slow until it's closed.

Maybe it's my Virus Scan doing this...

But my whole machine pauses (music even stops in itunes), for like 2 seconds anytime I start to D/L something in Firefox. Right click, save as even causes it.

Clean out your d/l folder as well as the d/l list.

What 'download folder'? I specify where I want each d/l to go. I hit the 'clean up' button, then later got rid of the download manager all together. Why can't a box just pop like IE, instead of grouping and listing everything?

I use one folder for downloads, when I reduce the number of items in that folder, the pause goes away. What do you mean the download manager 'went away'? Ctrl +y or Ctrl +e should bring it back. :/

I went into preference and disabled it. So now I just manually (Ctrl+Y) bring it up when I need to see the progress.
