My car won't start and I have no fucking idea why. The car is a 98 Honda Prelude. When the key is in the ignition everything seems to work perfectly normal up through the On position (radio, heat, headlights, everything works). But when I try to start it, it does nothing. Doesn't even make a sound. The key is one of those fucking things with the security circuit in it and I thought maybe the problem is that the system isn't recognizing the key for some retarded reason (it's happened before), so I went through the simple procedure to fix that (turn ignition switch to Lock [0], remove key, reinsert, and turn the switch to On [II]) but THAT DOESN'T FUCKING WORK EITHER.

WHAT. THE. FUCK.

Might be your battery posts. Take your battery cables off and clean the posts with a battery post cleaner or a wire brush and try again.

I'll try that. How the hell would that happen all of a sudden? Could it have something to do with the cold?

you say your car turns on and such but wont start the engine correct? so maybe you have a lose or burnt out spark plug losing contact. Check your rotor cap, and also if possible I dunno where your belts are but see if your belts are slipping even though it would do something even if your belts were fucked. Car should try to turn over or something. Could be your ignition too sounds like it if absolutely nothing happens when you try to fire it up...thats not cheap.

Hang out with Steve.
When was the last time you got a new battery? If the answer is "never", you most likely need a new one. A battery can power accessories but still not have enough to crank the starter.

My 3-month-old convertible had the exact same issue last year -- brand new battery, exact same symptoms as your car. Turns out one of the cells in the battery was defective, and replacement fixed it. My money's on your battery.

I got it tested a month and a half ago at a honda service center and they said it "passed with flying colors", so I dunno about that.

I don't even know where the fuck the spark plug or rotor cap is....gotta look that up.
And if it turns out to be expensive I'm not too worried since I have bumper-to-bumper on it.

well if its the rotor cap then dont worry you can buy a new set for like 20 bucks or less, easily done on your own. And hey every car needs good spark plugs! With bumper to bumper you really arent in any trouble hehe.

Okay, so it may be a problem with one of those things, but how do I go about testing to find out which one it is?
