Godfather 2: Would Michael not of cared about.... (spoiler)

I was always under the impression while watching/since watching this movie as a kid that to traditional Italians, the son is everything. The son carries on the name, tradition, legacy, etc. Not that daughters aren't important or loved.

That's just what I got out of the movie. I could be way off.

He would have cared regardless, but learning he lost a son dug even deeper.

Edit:

Corrected myself regarding their children.

Is it bad that the only Godfather I have ever seen is this clip and some memes? Like I get they are pretty classic movies but do they hold up as someone who has no nostalgia for them?
Also Anthony seems fine. *shrug*

was Michael a misogynist

You don't watch many mob movies, do you?

Dude. Yeah, they hold up, absolutely you should watch parts one and two. The original's almost flawless and while the second can lag a bit in the "current time" scenes, it's also comprised of flashbacks to De Niro playing a young Brando and "starting the mob". It's incredible.

I'm pretty sure the rule in that fictional world is you can't lay hands on a woman until you have married her, and then only to an uncertain extent. So yeah, I think any of thee mobsters might qualify as a misogynist.

Godfather 1 is a masterpiece. Sure, it has some spots that are a little jarring (James Caan brawl comes to mind), but it absolutely holds up, beginning to end.

2nd one is worth watching, though it doesn't come close to the first IMO. The 3rd movie is mediocre at best.

The thread concept / theme is not worth discussing, but I thought I would chime in about the movies themselves.
