The first one was bad so thats fine.
I wouldn't say it was bad just mediocre but as someone whose been a big Japanese Godzilla fan since I was a little kid I have to give them credit for actually making Godzilla Godzilla, unlike the first American Godzilla film. I'm actually somewhat optimistic because of that (and the fact a new Japanese film is being made doesn't hurt anything of course).

How big is Kong going to be? They had to increase his proportions tremendously in the old movie to have him come close to matching Godzilla and the new Western Godzilla is the second biggest yet next to Shin Godzilla. Is Kong going to be as big as the all of Skull Island?

Terrible first post.

The 2014 film was a perfect Showa Godzilla film.

My man. Loved '14 Godzilla. Filmed beautifully, great mood, Godzilla was powerful, and the Mutos were well designed, IMO.

Cautious about a Godzilla vs Kong. Seems way unbalanced. A Godzilla/Pacific Rim mash-up would make a lot more sense and Godzilla could have a lot of kaiju to kick the shit out of of + robuts!

:(

At least Shin Godzilla is coming and it looks pretty neat.

The first one was bad so thats fine.

Horrible first post. You should feel ashamed. The only really bad things about that movie were it being previewed as a Heisei-era styled movie when it was actually a Showa-era styled movie, and
Cranston dying too early

The only complaints I have about Godzilla 2014 is too little Godzilla screen time and Bryan Cranston's acting making everyone else seem like robots.

Excited for these new movies but it's sooo far away.

Bryan Cranston is just to good in anything he does haha. My proplem with is was the first time I saw it I loved it, but over repeated viewings it's kind of slow. Excited for the sequel tho so we know who is directing it since the Godzilla director is doing rouge one

Sad to hear, especially knowing that it'll probably be a new version of Ghidora the Three-Headed Monster. That was one of my favorites.

At least they aren't pushing it back so that Godzilla vs King Kong can get shoved forward. Three-Headed Perfect Golden Dragon >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Giant Gorilla.

Nope. They didn't do it right, not enough godzilla, just boring human characters until the third act.

Fair criticism but I'm just going to assume you don't like Godzilla movies then because I think it's a criticism that applies to 95% of the franchise, unless your only other exposure to the franchise is Final Wars

Shit damnit.
(Big G fan)

At least it's less than a year delay. That's okay. And Shin Godzilla is on its way soon anyway.

My take on this is that it's a valid criticism from average joes that Godzilla fans don't have as much as an issue with because we're already used to it haha

LegendaryGoji was basically a flawless modern interpretation of a Showa era film. I loved it. That said, I do hope the next one is more indulgent with the monster screentime. They wouldnt be able to get away with all that teasing for two movies in a row.

Edwards probably just needs more time since he'll be coming off Rogue One.

So is Edwards confirmed for Godzilla 2?

I really like his directing style and he was still fairly green with Godzilla '14. After that and Rogue One, I would expect him to have advanced as a filmmaker even more with Godzilla '19.

Really can't wait to see the revision of some of those classic monsters in the sequel.

I enjoyed the movie overall but I really do think there were a lot of poor choices on the creative end that added up to really weigh the movie down. For example the near slapstick like scenes of the military guys carrying the nuke across the destroyed city got to be damn near comedic after a while. A lot of people were bursting out laughing in the theater I saw it in whenever they would pop up on screen. Its not what killed the movie but there were so many odd choices to make like that one that just hurt the movie.

Fair points, especially the part about the characters being boring. I don't think the lack of Godzilla would've been as painful if we'd have had Cranston as the the main character instead of Family McSoldierman.

That cockblock tease in Hawaii was inexcusable though.

Yeah the cockblock immediately after Godzilla's reveal is the only thing I unilaterally disliked about the movie, especially considering his introduction was fucking perfect.

The Jaegers struggled with Slattern and he's nowhere near as powerful as Godzilla. They'd be fucked against Godzilla.

Its the only godzilla I've seen, but I understand the principle of godzilla and what it is, and its still dull as dishwater.

Ah okay. Well, maybe it's just not a franchise that appeals to you I guess. Some of the Japanese movies are paced a bit better but for the most part the franchise is generally boring and/or cheesy human scenes stuffed inbetween Godzilla bits.

Except for Final Wars, which is a Godzilla movie jammed full of anime tropes written by guys who did all of the cocaine ever.

I want a Man of Steel Smallville like fight. Just pure DBZ action, 60 minutes long. No human characters or keep it to a minimum.

Flawless description of Final Wars. Man, I'm really happy they took a break after that one. I don't know what the fuck they were doing haha

Any word who is directing the Zilla vs Kong pic?

I'd say it's too early to decide, but if I had to put money on it, I'd say Jordan Vogt-Roberts might. The Skull Island footage looks pretty good, and if that does well next year, he's going to get locked down for te crossover.

Holy shit, I gotta watch this now!

Be warned that when he says anime tropes and cocaine, that's not necessarily meant to be a good thing. But it can be depending on what you're looking for.

If you want to see Godzilla playing soccer with other monsters while Neo from the Matrix fights flamboyant aliens with eyeliner, then you need to rent this right now.

It's factually horrible but if you're in the mood to see some indulgent cheesy insanity then it's perfect.

They're just giving themselves enough leeway to cancel this shit in case Kong: Skull Island bombs.

Does anyone have any idea what the story is gonna be for that? I can't imagine another straight up remake of King Kong's plot working if they plan on crossing over with Godzilla (plus the Peter Jackson Kong movie wasn't that long ago). Is this just gonna be "adventures on Skull Island" the movie?

Godzilla: Final Wars is legit in my top 3 favorite Godzilla movies. It's fucking amazing because it's the pinnacle of ridiculous B-movie cheese. I'm pretty sure the writers of that movie set out an early goal which was "how crazy and stupid can we make this before the movie loses cohesion?" A flying laser drill submarine blasts a hole in a flying Epcot Center above Tokyo while Godzilla shoots his fire breath like a kamehameha into space to blow up an asteroid. It's nuts.

Oh, I mean it to be a good thing. The movie establishes pretty early on that it's cheesy schlock, but it's the best schlock

I remember reading -- or seeing in a set video somewhere -- that the movie takes place during the Vietnam War era on some sort of expedition. Not sure how much is known beyond that.

That's a cool idea. A new time period for the Kong mythos wouldn't be out of the question, and I'd hate to see another story in the early 20th cent. so soon after the PJ movie.

I'm still curious whether or not Kong in the new movie will start out Godzilla sized or if they'll size him up for the crossover, and if they size him up later will they explain it.
