Its the only godzilla I've seen, but I understand the principle of godzilla and what it is, and its still dull as dishwater.
Unless you've watched the seminal Showa films you can't really understand how perfect of a Showa film 2014 was.

Mothra vs. Godzilla
Invasion of the Astro Monster
Destroy All Monsters
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla

Watch them and you'll understand.

I posted this in the previously updated Godzilla thread...,

This is actually pretty interesting because there was talk that Gareth Edwards (who is locked into an air tight 3 picture deal with Legendary, apparently) was being sought to direct the Godzilla sequel AND the Godzilla vs Kong movie.

Could this move mean that they might film back to back with Edwards doing both? Then again maybe it means that, all going well, Edwards might come back to do Godzilla 3 instead. Hmmm.

Also this schedule change presumably means that Dwayne Johnson's Rampage film will come out in 2018 well away from the studio's other "monster-verse" films.

Fair criticism but I'm just going to assume you don't like Godzilla movies then because I think it's a criticism that applies to 95% of the franchise, unless your only other exposure to the franchise is Final Wars

I truly believe those who hated the 2014 film for lack of Godzilla action has not seen a Godzilla film from start to finish.

I thought it was a decent Godzilla film.

This. I'm an old school Godzilla fan and I loved it. Though with that in mind I couldn't recommend it to anyone else.

But I was definitely a fan.

I'm really curious what they'll do to put Kong on Godzilla's level especially considering EdwardsZilla is the biggest incarnation of Big G yet

Supposedly the storyline for Skull Island features
something called 'Titan serum', which is only found on Skull Island, which makes things mutate and grow ginormous. There's a theory that Kong gets exposed to this stuff and becomes Godzilla sized at the end of the film.

But I'd take that with a Godzilla sized grain of salt at this point.

I think Godzilla 2 was blowing it's load early when they announced Mothra, Rodan and Ghidorah all in one film. Each of these monsters should 1v1 Godzilla in separate movies, and then bring them all together in one if they are truly chasing that Avengers magic.

Pretty much how I feel. That said some of my friends and family who aren't Godzilla fans were into it.

Definitely wouldn't hate some better human writing/directing tho.

Should just do a loose remake of Giant Monsters All Out Attack!

Have those people watch 1954 (Either version), 1984 (Return of and/or G1985), hell, even Biollante (Still my fave).

They're gonna bang their heads against their coffee tables in frustration approximately a quarter of the way through.

Fantastic news. '14 Godzilla was great for setting up the monster himself. Now we let him fight with no more human interruptions.

Before the original Ghidora the Three-Headed Monster, Godzilla only faced off against Mothra before (though Rodan had it's own solo movie). I think it's perfectly fine to have all of them show up together. It's not like you need extended origin stories for them either, they're just big monsters for the most part.

Nope. They didn't do it right, not enough godzilla, just boring human characters until the third act.

Yes you are 100% right. I remember losing my shit in the theater when Godzilla and the other monster "start fighting" at the airport and they just fucking cut away to the kid laying on the couch.

I actually hadn't seen any of the older godzilla movies, but i've always thought he was fucking awesome, and i LOVED the 2014 movie, so much that i think i saw it a good 5 or 6 times in theaters, and i still watch it from time to time, it's a great movie and actually got me into the older movies too! i can't wait for the next american one along with the new japanese one coming this year :D

They made it in part just to shit all over the the American Godzilla from the 90's.

That was Godzilla 2000, which was made to show them pesky Americans what a real quality Godzilla movie is like.

But not wanting the Americans to take first prize in any category, they also went out of their way to show us just how bad a Godzilla movie can be. And just to rub it in, they murdered Zilla in it also.

Checkmate.
(As a Godzilla movie I think 1998 is definitely subpar, but retconned as the origin of Zilla, another monster in big G's rogues gallery, I actually think it's a fine popcorn movie)

The only thing I'm concerned about his them jamming the origins for Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah all in at once (especially if the origins for Mothra and Ghidorah are left unaltered). I kind of hope it boils down to a 1 on 1 fight between Godzilla vs King Ghidorah though because, despite Ghidorah being billed as Godzilla's #1 enemy, they've only gone 1 v 1 once in the entire franchise

And I don't count
Kaizer Ghidorah at the end of Final Wars

I would rather have a Pacific Rim/Godzilla crossover. The aliens from the rift decide they need a more earth based monster, so they resurrect Godzilla to conquer the earth.

The real reason we need a Godzilla/Pacific Rim crossover is because it's the only way that we're gonna see a proper Western designed Mecha-Godzilla.

If that were to happen it'd be like this.

Aliens come back for a round 2. All the Jaegers get wrecked this round and humanity assumes it's closing time. Big G comes out of the water after being dormant for years and fucks the alien monsters up, buying the humans some time.
The humans patch up their robots and back up Godzilla in the final fight against the hordes. Victory is achieved and the guys in the Jaegers quickly learn to back off when the big G takes one of their arms off.

They leave the beast be and go home.

I HAD NEVER CONSIDERED THIS POSSIBILITY.
Shit, this needs to happen.

Here would be my Godzilla/Pacific Rim crossover

1) [Pre-opening credits] The nuke at the end of the first Pacific Rim coupled with the closing of the rift reawakens Godzilla, who's been dormant since 1954 in this universe, and juices him up to make him more powerful (an homage to how Godzilla gets beefed up in Godzilla vs King Ghidorah). You could overlay this with the main character talking about how "sealing away the Kaiju from the rift ended up awakening something worse, something worse"

2) The opening credits is a montage showing Godzilla wrecking Japan and taking down a couple Jaegers. This could continue into a scene post-intro showing a modern day Godzilla vs Jaeger battle

3) Aliens reopen the rift and start sending more Kaiju through

4) One of the first Kaiju that gets sent through encounters Godzilla, and Godzilla thoroughly kicks the shit out of it. This makes the aliens aware of Godzilla, who then attempt to control Godzilla and fail.

5) The remaining Jaegers are fighting off new Kaiju while also attempting to close the rift again.

6) Final battle is a three way fight between Jaegers, alien Kaiju, and Godzilla. Finale is a massive alien Kaiju showing up that results in Godzilla and the Jaegers basically teaming up.

7) Rift gets closed again, Godzilla goes off to see because he's tired of all this shit.

The real reason we need a Godzilla/Pacific Rim crossover is because it's the only way that we're gonna see a proper Western designed Mecha-Godzilla.

OH FUCK

I'll add my desire for a Pacific Rim/Godzilla cross over movie more than King Kong. The two universes just fit far better together though we'd need some serious upgrades to the Jaegers if they're hoping to take on the modern incarnations of the Big G.

Jaeger MechaGodzilla is a fucking awesome idea plus it continues the trend of each new MechaGodzilla having a different origin.

Showa MechaGodzilla = Alien robot built with space metals
Heisei MechaGodzilla = Mech built with reverse engineered future tech from Mecha Ghidorah
Millenium MechaGodzilla = Cyborg mech built from the skeleton of the original Godzilla
American MechaGodzilla = A motherfucking Jaeger

They're seriously going about this all wrong if the plan is still to go from Mothra, Rodan, and KING GHIDORAH in 2, to fucking King Kong in part 3.

Yeah, going from a 4-way melee battle to a 1v1 showdown does seem odd, especially when it's going from a 3 headed dragon and a giant magic moth to a big ape. They're gonna need something other than the King Kong name to up the stakes.

Quick, throw in Mecha Kong!

Both of our posts above were brief summaries of Pacific Rim crossovers with roughly the same plot idea, followed by an all-caps reaction to the idea of a Jaeger Mechagodzilla.

How is Godzilla vs Kong going to work? Zilla is so much bigger than kong.

That was my first thought when hearing the announcement. Clearly the new version of Kong is about to get a whole lot bigger than previous installments. No more climbing up buildings, just crushing them.

Eh, they can take their time. I got Shin Goji coming, after all.

And this is with me digging "Legendary!Godzilla", overall.

...I like the way you think.

Oh I know how they make Kong a match for the Big G, Kong has his own even larger Mecha King Kong that he gets into ride around. So like a human gets in a Jaeger to fight Kaiju, Kong gets into Mecha Kong to fight Godzilla.

Fuck... this makes me a little disappointed I don't drop acid anymore...

Actually know what, scratch all this. Give me an anime series/movie where Godzilla takes on Roger Smith and the Big O.

Also if you guys love crazy Godzilla cross overs you should check out the game coming out for the PS4 called City Shrouded in Shadows. Its basically a similar take to the disaster report games where you control a person in a city during a major catastrophe and have to escape the runied city.

This game takes it to the next level as the disaster hitting the city are giant monsters. So far in the game we know Godzilla is in it as are the Evangelions and Ultraman. Apparently there are other famous giant monsters in it that we haven't seen though from what has been heard some of these big city destroyers will be duking it out while you run through their legs to escape the carnage.

I did not know of this. I will check it out, thank you.
