I just watched GMK last night (awesome, AWESOME G movie), and got to wondering if Final Wars had been announced for US shores yet. I remember Toho saying they really wanted to push this one for US audiences, so I'm hoping -- but not betting -- for a theatrical release. Anyone know if anything's been said?

Seriously, though, I really wish all of the recent Godzilla movies were as good as GMK. Oh, well. I've heard that Final Wars is a bit disappointing, but I still want to see it on the big screen rather than on DVD. Is that August date "they" are referring to a theatrical release or a DVD release?

The only genuine godzilla movie I've seen in it's entirety is Godzilla Vs. The Sea Monster and that was on an episode of MST3K.

The movie is supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek homage/let's-just-make-the-cheeziest b-movie-we-can film. It's quite enjoyable and often hilariously bad. The film succeeds for the most part at what Kitamura attempts to do with it, so I think it came out well.

It's no 4 out 4 oscar-worthy film, but it's a great 2.5-3 out of 4 popcorn flick.

The film's tag should be 'Let's have some fun!', because it suceeds at doing just that on so many levels by being a new-age Showa film. It's one of the most enjoyable films I've seen.
It doesn't suffer from pacing problems other Kitamura flicks have, the only bad parts it has is some iffy editing and a handful of bad shots.
Just take off your traditional kaiju goggles and tell me you didn't get a huge grin from watching Godzilla own each and every monster (sans a few)

I loved the Godzilla Vs Mechagodzilla 1974 music that Kitamura snuck into the South Pole scene and the numerous cameos from actors/actresses that have been in his previous films.

Here's to Kitamura, and let's hope he does Metal Gear Solid the movie for Universal as rumoured.

GMK is Kaneko's (The Gamera Guy!) Godzilla film, it's really good IMO, a new take on Godzilla from a story perspective (perhaps making him even more evil than Godzilla 1954 and 1984 ), some decent character development, some astonishing minature work, but like most kaiju films, it has some bad shots. I don't like the Godzilla suit in GMK.
Very enjoyable, some really awesome stuff, check it out

Godzilla Final Wars sucks. If that makes me retarded, I'll happily be retarded with all the guys over THAT corner. There's not a single shred of good moviemaking in Final Wars, it's only fucking entertaining because it's SO FUCKING LAME. Seriously, this movie looks like what you get when you give Uwe Boll 150 million dollars to work with in the US. This is easily Kitamura's worst film and one of the worst Godzilla films I've ever seen. Anyone who wants to hide behind that "homage" thing is just lame, because it's all superficial and goes to show that neither Kitamura, nor any of his fans, understand that Godzilla is NOT lame and retarded. Only this one is. The ending was just sick to watch too.

I loved Final Wars for it's campy approach, I love that they managed even briefly to stuff in many of the monsters I've loved to watch the Big G battle over the years... and I love that some people hated the movie.... and I'm really a sucker for the final sequence of how Godzilla finishes off his final opponent... I just think that's a really cool visual with the glow as he spins around....

I'm not a Godzilla fan at all, in fact I dont really like the series at all. Final Wars was perhaps the only Godzilla movie I enjoyed as a popcorn flick, I dont take these movies seriously anyhow

It's Kitamura Ryuhei through and through (including the dull parts), the action parts were fun in itself ^^
